The Juniors and Seniors, under the direction of James Coughlin and Roland Nelson, have been working on the play Up the Down Staircase. This full-length comedy, ta- ken from the book by Bel Kauf- man , deals with the day-to-day problems of an overcrowded and understaffed high school in New York City. Through the experi- ences of Miss Sylvie Barrett, a young teacher on her first assign- ment, the audience is introduced to the humor of Calvin Coolidge High. Young, sensitive Miss Barrett walks into the school backed up by a thesis on Chaucer and preach- ing good diction, correct usage, and fluent self-expression. She is soon told that it would be bet- ter if she had learned karate. Hie play is built around her problems with the students and administration. The hilarity of the student's antics and the problems they face in the world around them are combined to produce the heart-touching comedy of the play. After three weeks of rehear- sal, the cast will proudly present their play at 7:00 p.m. in the grade school gym. Admission is $1.00 for adults and $.50 for students. See you there for an evening of entertainment! 95 STUDENTS OF THE MONTH GAIL CELMER GARY BURTLE MIKESULE DEBBIE FLANNIGAN GREG BOESDORFER ROBERT NEWTSON 96 JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM THOSE WERE THE DAYS fade to memory.
