Craig Artist, counselor, spends most of his time helping students through college information and students' individual personal problems. As a whole the adminstration would like for students to think of the office as a place to go when they need to talk about their problems. Denver Art Museum, and Pike's Peak were some of the attractions to be visited in June by the math and science club. During the school year tours were taken of Auburn Consolidated Industries. During the year members sold cookies and doughnuts after school, had cake raffles at basketball games, sold carnations for Valentines day. baked cookies for teachers, and sold carmel apples. Besides a weekend of activities the Fellowship of Christian Athletes met regularly on Sunday evenings at either Mr. Thacker's home or at the high school gym. Led by a group of experienced upper classmen, a cast of nineteen presented the Broadway musical comedy Walking Happy . Set in England in 1880 the story involved a shoe shop owner (Jeff Allgood) and his three daughters (Lynne Mcknight. Susan Hall, and Jonelle Warren). When his eldest daughter falls in love with his most talented bootmaker Will (Steve Patras), the father is forced to face drastic changes. Pledging to the town temperance leader (Mike Root) that he will quit drinking, the father stops meeting with his fellow merchant friends (Scott Black. Earl Shaw. Ken Toman). Will goes to his friend and fellow bootmaker (Chris Pippert) for advice. Besides a fall concert and a spring performance, the band also played for the graduation ceremony and for several half-time shows during the football season. Band members included: Lisa Albright. Starting out at Peru State College Swing Choir Festival with a second place they had a disappointing turn-around at Maryville. However, due to hard work and excellent daily rehearsals Riverside Junction picked themselves up to earn a superior rating at district music contest held in Auburn. The Butler Did It was presented in April to an enthusiastic audience. Miss Maple, a society dowager noted for her imaginative weekend parties, invites a group of detective writers to eerie Ravenswood Manor on Turkey Island, where they are to assume the personalities of their fictional characters. Susan Hall, and Mike Root all with excellent ratings. At the Nebraska City invite. Michelle Kimball won a fourth place and Mike Root and Susan Hall won a fifth place in their duet acting. Mr. Artist, guidance counselor, gave a speech on ”success Faculty members chose this year’s inductees on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. The induction was followed by an informal reception. Seniors who were active in vocal and instrumental music were voted on by their peers. The winners were presented their awards at the spring concerts for each area. The Bulldogs were rated as high as ninth during the year with 185 pounder Dave Pieters being ranked first the last half of the season. Dan Haynes, at 138 pounds, was ranked as high as 2 in class B and defeated three of the state’s top six wrestlers during the season. Qualifying for state were 105 Damian Wiggs (18-6-1), 138 Dan Haynes (29-3-1). Kevin Allen at 145 who finished 18-11. and 185 Dave Pieters who cruised to a 29-3 mark. Haynes qualified for state with a 4.32.1 time in the 1600 meters and won a sixth place medal at state. Fabry ran a 15.3 110 meter high hurdles at district to also qualify. Their leadership in academics, community activities, and athletics are at the top of a list of many. All the seniors will greatly miss the studying for tests, procrastinating, beating the tardy bell, and trying to think up feasible excuses for their absences. The 95th graduating class chose as it’s motto. The stage for life's play has been set. now the cast must perform their parts. After celebrating their last homecoming with a victory, dancing at their last prom, and sitting through their final hours of English 12 and American Government, the seniors felt they were ready to meet the challenges of the future.
