r Stage band moves on with jazz style The Stage band moved to many different styles of music. While playing Santa Anna they moved to a rock beat and while playing Most Royal Count they moved to a jazz beat. The stage band played for many different audiences. They began the year by playing mini-concerts for the elementary schools in Auburn and Peru. The spring stage band concert featured the middle school and high school stage bands. They also played for family night at the country club and for the Bowling Association Banquet. They climaxed the year by receiving a superior rating at district music contest. Fred Allen received the David Whitehouse memorial award. Members are: Fred Allen, Cecil Bassett, Patty Byfield, John Casey, David Choate, Ann DeBuhr, Janet Edgerton, David Edwards, Jeff Jones, Janie Kampe, Ronda Liewer, Keith Long, Andy Oestmann, Howard Schlange, Jenny Spear, Linda Vollertsen. Swing choir helps Everybody Rejoice Everybody Rejoice from the musical The Wiz was just one of the songs that Riverside Junction performed. The swing choir displayed their singing ability at many different community functions at Arbor Manor, Country Club and Wheeler Inn. Swing Choir did not only perform in Auburn but also at Westside Jazz Festival in Omaha. At the District Music Contest on April 21, they received a superior rating. The annual swing choir concert was held on April 29. The swing choir ended their year with a party at Lake Wa-Con-Da. COUNTERCLOCKWISE FROM RIGHT: 1. 30 Nine straight one's win district contest On November 4, the band performed Broadway Show Stompers at Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln where they received their first division I rating in AHS history. Although Pershing was the highlight of the year, many performances were still to come. At the Mid-Winter Concert, the guest conductor, Claude T. Smith, a famous music composer, conducted the middle school and high school in songs that he had composed, some of which are Declaration Overture . Anthem for Winds and Percussion, March Spiritoso, and God of Our Fathers. On April 20 and 21, the district music contest was held where they entered 12 events, Superiors were: band, stage band, Keith Long, Linda Vollertson, Chris DeLay, Ann DeBuhr, and Patty Byfield. Excellents were: flute trio, Shari Oestmann, Fred Allen, Lori Niemann, and Roger Strumpler. The year ended with the all-school band concert where all four bands played. The John Philips Sousa Award was given to Lori Kimball. As the first half of the basketball games comes to an end, the pep band comes alive to support the Bulldogs. 4. While waiting for the game to start, the drill team practices their halftime performance. 5. On November 4, 1978, the Auburn band performs at Pershing Marching Contest at which they received a 1. 6.
