New ideas learned from AHS studies Auburn high students that took English courses this year demonstrated a variety of talents. Some of these were writing, acting, reading, speaking foreign languages and experimenting with philosophy. Through the halls the philosophy students were heard telling each other in which ego state they were talking while Spanish students were heard rattling off secrets in Spanish. Speed reading and vocabulary enthusiasts whizzed through reading assignments in the media center. Journalism, drama and speech students tried to keep their nerves while meeting deadlines, giving speeches, learning lines, and facing audiences. 1. Mrs. Linda Hemmingsen, journalism and English teacher, proof reads Lori Zech's story. 2. The one act play cast listens while Mr. Jeffrey Falter, drama instructor gives stage directions. 3. During fifth period Mrs. Carrie Allen, practical English teacher, takes roll. 4. Spanish teacher, Miss Ellen Dubas, explains Spanish conjugation to a student. 5. English teacher and pep-club sponsor, Mrs. Francis Rarick, lectures to her philosophy and literature class. 10

1. Principal Mr. Marvin Gerdes works on scheduling for the next semester. 2. This year's school board members are, FRONT ROW: Mr. Ross Adams, Mrs. Patricia Oestmann, superintendent Mr. Albert Austin, secretary Mrs. Jean Stanley. BACK ROW: Mr. Glen Witzenburg, Mr. Dean Niemann, Mr. Dick Alden, and Mr. Dick Hahn. 3. Secretary Mrs. Janel Clark types the daily bulletin. 4. Mr. Stoner, vice-principal, concentrates on a basketball game. 5. School nurse Alice Buck consults her file to check a student's health record. 6. Guidance office secretary Mrs. Donna Kipling counts the morning's change in the office. 7. Guidance counselor Mr. Larry Curnes spends much of every day consulting with seniors about their career plans. 8. Mrs. Margaret Damme, secretary, sorts the afternoon mail. 9
