ahs music students shop for new robes The 75-76 music students sold candles to raise money for new choir robes. The Jr. High helped them sell the candles because they would also wear them in high school. The amount of money raised was approximately $1600. This year the choir department did very well at District Music Contest. They received 8-1 ratings and 4-2 ratings. The participants and their ratings are: Full choir-1; swing choir-1; girls double sextet-1; LaRhea Barret-2; Barbershop quartet-1; Mixed octet-2; Mary Ellen Kuenning-1; Steve Palmerton-1; Randy Rogge-2; Jeff Wilson-1; Paul Crotty-1; and Laura Knapp-2. Tryouts for All-State Choir and Band were held in Lincoln on October 11. Jeff Wilson and Dwight Wininger were selected to be in the choir which was held November 20. 21, 22, in Kearney, Nebraska. Officers for the 1975-76 year: Vicki VonBergan. pres.; Peggy Root, v. pres.; Mike Liewer, sec.-treas.; Susan Lunzmann, Tish Root, librarians; Jeff Wilson, Allison Oestmann, robe committee. 20

swing choir named riverside junction The 1975-’76 swing choir named themselves Riverside Junction. The name was originated by Steve Palmerton. Under the direction of Mr. Mike Zimmerman, the swing choir performed for such places as Good Samaritan. Jr. High. Kiwanis. Rotary, Women's Auxiliary. Jr. Women's Club's fashion show, and a convocation for the high school. Early in May the swing choir and stage band gave a concert for the public in the band shell in the city park. Picnic lunches were brought and games were played. May 7 and 8 was the Midland Jazz Festival, which is a contest for stage bands and swing choirs all over the state.
