cheerleaders strive for AHS involvement During the 1974-75 athletic seasons, cheerleaders strived to gain more spirited involvement from students. They aroused enthusiasm with ideas incorporated into unique posters and spirit boosting projects they brought from summer camp. Some of the ideas used at rallies were “Dorothy in victory land , the evolution of cheerleaders , and a contest between wrestlers and basketball players to see who could build the best spirit machine. The wrestlers won the contest. On homecoming eve, the cheerleaders and some pep club members delivered posters to the homes of each football player. Neither vicious dogs nor muddy country roads stopped them from distributing the posters. Though the cheerleaders encountered many challenges that arise in promoting spirit, their endeavors were regarded with increased support from fans. CLOCKWISE STARTING BELOW: ‘Varsity cheerleaders, Kay Hamann, Brenda Holding, Sue Sparr, Joni Sherwood and Ruth Fass, wish the team “Good Luck! ‘Cindy Bergmann, Terri Majors and Janet Myers encourage AHS wrestlers with pep. ‘Reserve cheerleaders, Kay McCormick, Pam Casey, Judi Vosberg and Lori Zech arouse enthusiasm from the pep club during a game.

gal club participates in red cross drive Increasing recognition of feminine sports in the community was the goal of the GAL club (Girls' Association of Letterwomen). This recognition was achieved in several ways. They contributed their time and efforts canvassing Auburn for the Red Cross fund. They also purchased tee-shirts with GAL imprinted on them. To help pay for the tee-shirts, members worked at the concession stand during three basketball games. Proceeds from the concession stand were also used to finish payment on the plaque awarded to the outstanding senior girl athlete by the GAL club.
