Every person at AHS is an individual. Each has his own dreams, ideas, and ways of life. The isolated element on this page and succeeding division pages throughout your annual was designed to illustrate the evolution of a versatile individual. As you witness this shapeless mass of clay being molded into a likeness of a human being reflect on how all facets of your education have molded you into young adults that you are. And in a few years, when you look back upon this record ask yourself: What stands out most in my mind about high school? Will it be the history tests and geometry memorizations or will it be the school plays, band, concerts, and friendships? •Taken from THE SCHOOL LIFE, Page 33. 5 7 administration helps to round individuals The Auburn School Board helps to round the individgals in the school system. The board meets monthly to discuss various matters put before them by the schools. Mr. Albert Austin, superintendent, is in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly within the system. Another duty of Mr. Austin is attending the board meetings. Along with Mr. Austin, Mr. Cerdes, AHS principal, and Mr. Stoner, vice-principal, attend the meetings. Mr. Cerdes' main responsibility is to govern over all high school activities, while Mr. Stoner enforces school regulations. The individuals of Auburn are guided by Larry Curnes, counselor. Mr. Curnes keeps his free time open for conferences with the students. To keep the records straight, secretaries, Margaret Damme and Donna Kipling, work daily in the office carrying out many other duties that may occur. A group of AHS students were huddled in the upper commons area around the new bulletin board which told of home room meetings, events during the month, senior announcements, the daily bulletin and a proverb for the week by Mr. Gerdes. This happened daily because AHS added a home room to its already busy schedule for the 74-75 school year. Pep rallies, and club meetings were just a few of the many activities held during this twenty minute period. Mr. Ramp previously taught in the Auburn School system two years at the middle school, as well as the high school stage band. Mr. Zimmerman graduated from Dana College in 1974. The two instructors worked jointly in the 1974-75 school year preparing for concerts and the district music contest. One of the main joint projects was a concert which featured a medley of songs called the Saga of Western America. The students, digressing from the tradition of wearing robes, dressed in costumes appropriate to the era depicted by the concert. Saloon girls, cowboys, and school marms were among the types of people portrayed. This change in custom was a refreshing experience for both the choir members and the audience. 13 drama classes use video tape to film The only way to learn about media is to use it. No one can learn about the media by reading out of a book. Jeff Falter English teacher, feels every student should have the chance to do some type of acting. His drama class wrote a script for a ten minute sketch which was based on the show Star Trek , which they called, Spaced Out. The purpose of the film was to aid students in the use of visual material. Besides drama, the language arts department offers a wide variety of subjects. Many football, basketball, and wrestling pins were awarded to members who attended the required amount of games. Harass them, harass them, make them relinquish the ball. Procrastinate, procrastinate, run down the clock! The wrestlers won the contest. On homecoming eve, the cheerleaders and some pep club members delivered posters to the homes of each football player. Students had fun learning how to do the stroll and the jitterbug. Their attire consisted mainly of rolled up jeans, white socks and penny loafers. The swing choir took down their pony tails and un-slicked their d.a.'s in order to make public performances at the middle school and Good Samaritan. They sang at the Rotary, Kiwanis, and attended the Peru swing choir clinic, too. The full choir charmed their listeners with harmonious singing at the mid-Winter, Christmas, and Spring concerts. This required interviewing residents and employees, plus covering the activities of the center. Writing the weekly column The Barkin Bulldog gave students a chance to report for the PERU CHALLENGE. The column covered school events that were reported again by the class on radio station KNCY. Also, the journalists produced their own intercom station one day to promote their annual. The program consisted of a mystery called The Adventures of Andria Annual and several commercials. These promotions proved effective as the students reached their goal to sell 275 annuals or more.
