STUDENT COUNCIL STAYS ACTIVE As Student Council President, John Whlsler presided at the convo programs. The school year of 1971-72 was a busy one for Auburn High's Student Council. The Council initiated a new project—the book store. This was started with the hope that it could provide a needed service for students and at the same time be a moneymaker for the council. Notebooks, pens, pencils, and even T shirts are some of the items sold. Student Council members work in the book store during study hall periods and before and after school. Freshman initiation was sponsored by the student council, and was considered to be an enjoyable evening, especially by the upper classmen, freshmen were paired and auctioned. After the sale, a dance was held in the gym. The Council was again responsible for sponsoring student convocation programs. The Student Council also engaged in moneymaking projects by holding raffles. Six members of the Student Council attended the state convention. They were John Whisler, Dennis Rippe, Debbie Gerdes, Gail Mayberry, Laurie Redfem, and Delilah Stevens. 6
