SPRING PL A Y IS “YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU On April 17, 1972, at 7:30 P. M. Auburn High School presented a nostalgic revival of You Can't Take It With You, The comedy, written in 1936 by George Kaufmann and Moss Hart, centers on the eccentric Sycamore family. The Sycamore's daughter Alice has invited her fiance and his parents, the Kirbys, to dinner. The plot thickens when they arrive on the wrong night, catching the Sycamores off guard. A series of hilarious situations follow, ending with a happy reconciliation. Jeffrey Falter directed the production. Members of the cast were: Valerie Coatney, Doug Holsclaw, Gloria Obermeyer, Dennis Wininger, David Wininger, Martha Russell, Brian Browning, Kay Baatz, Kevin Casey, Roland Barrett, Robbie McKercher, Anita Shires, Sam McCormick, Cheryl Knapp, Janet Wilson, Gary Hamann, Doug Huls, Brad Hahn, and Dave Adams. 29

A UBURN HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS “YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN” On Monday, November 8, 1971, Auburn High School presented its fall musical You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. It was repeated the following night to a sellout crowd. The play, directed by Jeffrey Falter and Rene Steimle, is based on the Peanuts comic strips of Charles Shultz. Speech contestants: Gloria Obermeyer, Kevin Casey, Doug Holsclaw, Martha Russell, Roland Barrett, Kay Baatz, John Chatelain and Dennis Winlnger. SPEECH CONTESTANTS EARN DISTRICT AND STATE HONORS The Auburn High School team participated in the District Speech Tournament at Peru State College on March 14, 1972. The members earned an impressive score with seven superiors and one excellent rating. On Saturday, April 29, the participants traveled to a state invitational tournament at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Here, three students Martha Russell, John Chatelain, and Roland Barrett earned second place awards in their respective events.
