Convo Honors Outstanding Students The annual Honors Convocation concluded the senior's last day of school. Gold A Pins were awarded to seniors Kathie Bence, Denise Elliott, Joe Ely, Frances Kite, Kirk Kuwitzky, Janet Nixon, Pat Patras, Becky Pasco, and Kathleen Rogge. Jim Vosberg, Scott McKercher, and David Wininger, were given recognition for placing in the top one percent of the National Math Conest. Jim ranked 19th of all entrants. Miss Steimle presented Janet Genoa and Debbie Ebeler superior awards for accompanying. John Chatelain and Lynn Blecha received awards for superiors on piano and vocal solos at contest. A Notes also received superiors. Mr. Dahmke presented Lambert Stiers with the Outstanding Senior Band Member Award. Speech contest entrants Gloria Obermeyer, Doug Holsclaw, David Holsclaw, Kathie Bence, Joe Ely, and Jim Taylor received certificates from Mr. Falter for superior ratings. Senior Pep Club members received gold charms. High point winners from each class were given gold chevrons. They were Fresh: Mary Lee Glen, Ann Ely, Anne Oestman, Kris Jensen, and Candi Apple; Soph: Kathy Heskett, Valerie Coatney, Peggy Williams, and Patty Harpham; Jr: Emily Higgins, Mary Volkman, Denise Gardner; Sr: Debbie Harris, Mariellen Wilson, Rhonda Shoemake, and Kay Cowan. Nancy Heskett had Senior and All-School top points. Mrs. Reeves presented Cynthia Redfern and Emily Higgins awards for bookkeeping, putting them on the Bookkeeping Roll of Honor. Shorthand I awards for theory were given to Lana Coulter, Susan Biere, Michelle Sierks, Arnelda Harms, and Donna Kurrelmeyer. Mrs. Loew named Becky Shoemake as winner of the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow-Award. Girls Track was introduced this year, and eight girls received letters from Miss Kern. They were Ginny Aufenkamp, Jane Clark, Barb Brady, Kathy Heskett, Patty Harpham, Sherry Striggow, and Ann Shires. The coaches awarded letters for their respective sports. Dennis Rippe received the Free Throw Plaque for basketball, John Whisler was named as the Most Outstanding Wrestler, Kurt Kent received the Outstanding Senior Football Player Award, and Dave and Dru Lammle tied for Outstanding Golfer Award. Dennis Brady was named recipient of the Dave Swinney Memorial Trophy. Mr. gerdes accepts an appreciation award from the Class of 71.

Kurt Kent received the Most Outstanding Football Player Award. John Whisler won the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. The Most Valuable Player Award for Golf is shown by Dru Lammle. Both Dru and his brother Dave earned the trophy ending the season with the same number of points. 26

Albert protests to lending his girl. The judge performs a quickie ceremony. Comedy Is Accent For Fall Play Comedy was the accent for the fall play with the presentation of Norman Krasna's play, Dear Ruth . The plot concerns a young girl (Becky Pasco) who carries on a romantic correspondence with an overseas soldier (Kirk Kuiwitzky) in her elder sister's name. When the youth returns, he makes up to the older sister (Gloria Obermeyer) who is already engaged. The cast members were David Hols-claw. Kathie Bence, Doug Holsclaw, Roland Barrett, Elaine Walker. Ann Vaughan, and Kevin Casey. The play was directed by Jeff Falter with technical direction by Sharon Parrish. Stage manager was Mari-ellen Wilson. 28
