Mr. Fell Expands Interests Of Art Club Under the sponsorship of Mr. Paul Fell, the Art Club continually displayed talent throughout the year. Club activities included a paint-in and a community service project of painting a downtown fence to encourage planting of trees. The club also enjoyed touring the Nebraska Wesleyan University Art Gallery and Sheldon Art Gallery in Lincoln and Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. Officers were Denetta Henne, Pres. ; Nancy Carr, Vice-Pres. ; Nancy Clark, Sec. ; Merle Kuhlman, Treas. ; and Anne Nincehelser, SAB. Irene Bergmann placed third in the National Maritime One of 100 finalists, Alice Keedy won a Gold Key Industry Poster Contest. Award in the Scholastic Art Contest. 22

Spanish Club Experiences Active Year The AHS Spanish Club, Los Conquistadores, conducted monthly meetings in Spanish. Speakers at regular meetings included Mr. Sebold, the foreign language consultant for the state of Nebraska; Mr. Howell, a teacher at the Junior High School who spoke on Costa Rica; and Hugo Vallegas, a student from Peru, South America. For one program, students presented original skits. The club went to Lincoln to see a Mexican craft exhibit and eat in a Mexican cafe. They also had their annual Christmas party and a banquet at the end of the year. Officers for the year were: La von Bohling, Pres. ; Jean Blecha, V. Pres. ; Peggy Meyers, Secretary; Nancy Damme, Treas. ; Jane Patterson, Student Council Rep. Roger Harms displays the pifiata.
