Solving the innumerable problems of operating a 3Bl50,000 a year business takes extensive planning and competent staff members. Approving the budget, translating the school policies, and hiring the superintendent and faculty members are some of their other responsibilities. The chorus practiced three times a week preparing for the fall concert November 2, spring concert February 3, and a special convocation for the high school on February 23. Several members of the choir attended the State Music Clinic held at Beatrice on November 18, 19, and 20. Superior ratings were received at the Tarkio Music Contest by Daryl Lotter, vocal tenor solo, John Griffiths, piano solo, and Marilyn Hogge, vocal soprano solo. At the District Contest Daryl Lotter, vocal tenor solo, John Griffiths, piano solo, Deanna Thomas, girls medium voice solo, Carol Tushla, girls low voice solo, girls' triple trio, and the mixed chorus all re- ceived superior ratings. Under the leadership of Mr. Duane Nielsen, Auburn tied for best FFA chapter in Nebraska, and also received District and State Co-op Awards. At the State fair, several boys received top honors in the state and good profits for displaying their stock. PERU failed to block an Auburnite's pass and the Bulldogs make a gain. AUBURN'S football coaches for '54-'55 were fl. to rJ Gerald Troester, Del Miller, and Pat Harris. Although the Auburn Bulldogs were often outweighed they fought their way to one of the best seasons in years, winning six and loosing only three games. In the opening game of the season, John Griffiths plunged across from four yards out for the first score of the season as Auburn handed a favored Plattsmouth team a 7-6 defeat. Auburn met their first defeat in their second outing as Nebraska City downed the Bulldogs by a 19-6 count. The Bulldogs were successful in their next four games as they defeated Tarkio by a 20-7 score, Peru Prep 14-0, Pawnee City 21-13, and Humboldt, in the annual Homecoming classic, 35-6. Falls City handed the Bulldogs their second defeat of the season in a close game by a 20-14 score, and Tec- umseh ran over the Bulldogs in a 55-7 romp. Three lettermen, Gene Schutte, John Griffiths, and Wes Ebeler, returned to lead the Bulldogs through a long season as Auburn won only 2 games and lost 13. In the opening game of the season, Auburn met Tarkio on the home court and managed to squeeze past the Missourians by a 42-41 score. The Bull- dogs met defeat in their next three outings as Peru downed the Canines 52-37, Falls City, 38-20, and Nebraska City 44-27. The Bulldogs again saw'vic- tory as they handed Peru a 53-43 setback in their return game. Pawnee City defeated Auburn 67-59 and started the Bulldogs on a loosing streak that lasted the remainder of the season. In the remain- ing games Tecumseh crushed the Bulldogs 69-36, Humboldt squeezed by the Canines 72-68, Nebr. City repeated with a 55-47 win, Bellevue handed the Bulldogs one of their worst beatings running up a 93-55 count, Pawnee again downed Auburn 55-50, Falls City triumphed 66-44, and Humboldt breezed to a 68-45 victory. Aubum met a strong Bellevue team in the first round of the Class A tourney and was downed 61- 44. ln the final game of the season, Tecumseh handed the Bulldogs a 80-44 defeat. Three lettermen returned to lead the Auburn track- sters through a season that showed no first place victories for the Bulldogs. These lettermen were Lynn Bensen, John Griffiths, and Glen Bantz. The Bulldogs placed second in a triangular meet to open the '55 season, but placed third in the next two triangular meets. In the Bellevue relays the thin- clads placed fourth in a field of seven. Auburn took fourth in the Southeast Conference meet and the frosh placed third in the freshmen Conference meet. In the second annual Auburn relays, the Bulldogs finished in sixth place. Lynn Bensen placed second in the pole vault to go to the state meet. Dan Bogge and Lynn Bensen were the only seniors I finishing the track season. Seven golf enthusiasts visited the sand greens this year.
