THE NINETEEN SIXTY-FOUR NEWS Sz GAZETTE Friday, June 4, 1964 IET PLANE CRASHES ON BLUE MOUNTAIN 1A.P.J-A jet plane transporting five mem- bers of 1954's graduating class was forced to crash on Blue Nlountain due to low visibility. EVELYN YERGER, a 1954 graduate, was stewardess of the plane, which also carried four other of her former classmates. Among those were: SHIRLEY I-IUMIVIEL, who was on one of her touring trips, FLOYD FIDLER, who was coming home on leave from the Navy, MARLENE KISSINGER, who was being transferred to another airport to con- tinue her managing secretarial services, and secretary CONNIE FESSLER, who was ac- companying her lawyer on a sight-seeing trip. No one was seriously injured. SEIGFRIED TO DEFEND HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION TITLE IAMES SEIGFRIED will defend the title as heavyweight champion on Friday, Iune 10, 1964, at the Squared Circle. Pat Young is his opponent. DOCTOR CURES GIRL OF 59-DAY HICCOUGH FRANKLIN REICHERT, M.D., gained fame in his profession by curing a seven-year- old girl of Los Angeles, California, who had the hiccoughs for 59 days. I-Ie used his method of telling her one of his favorite stories. Doc- tors all over the state tried various ways to cure her, but none were successful. NEW FUNERAL HOME OPEN TO PUBLIC ROBERT LUCKENBILL, a graduate of Eckles Embalming School, will have his re- cently erected funeral home open to the public the week of Iune 13, 1964. NEWS 6 GAZETTE TO HAVE NEW HOME-MAKER ADVISER LILLIAN PALES was selected by the NEWS 8 GAZETTE staff to write the col- umn on Advice to Homemakers. This feature will appear daily beginning with Monday's issue, Iune 13, 1964. ART EXHIBITION WINS FIRST PRIZE BONNIE FESSLER'S exhibition of a series of modernistic drawings was rated first in a county contest. Her drawings were chosen on the basis of neatness and originality. NEW DINER OPEN FOR BUSINESS FLORENCE IONES is the proprietor of the new diner on the Schuylkill I'Iaven-Potts- ville Highway which is to open Monday, Iune 13, 1964. One of her delicious home-made cherry pies will be given to each of the first fifty customers. PRIZE COW IS STATE-WIDE KNOWN A most outstanding cow owned by GEORGE REBER was the main attraction at the Farm Show last week. All the milk yielded by this cow was Grade A milk. They found the least amount of bacteria in this milk than in any other milk. REBER received first prize. PEIFFER'S MUSIC CENTRE GAINS POPULARITY IAMES PEIFFER was honored by Conn Music Company for selling the most musical instruments in Schuylkill County for the month of May. He is entitled to take a trip to Florida for two weeks, all expenses paid. .-22,-,

CLASS HISTORY M FRESHMAN YEAR As freshmen in September, 1950, we began the first of our four high school years at Auburn High School with ten boys and nine girls. Our first class meeting was held on Sep- tember 13. The following officers were elected: President ........... Bonnie Fessler Treasurer ....... Marlene Kissinger Vice-President ...... Connie Fessler Reporter .......... Shirley Hummel Secretary ........ Franklin Reichert Historian ........ Robert Luckenbill Adviser. .............. Mr. Iohn Kopenhaver In our freshman year we toured the Court House. County Iail, City Hall, and Pottsville Iournal newspaper oflice, all of Pottsville. We had a Christmas party as one of our activ- ities. Orchestra, Chorus, Boys' and Girls' Basketball, F. H. A., and PIONEER, were the activities in which members of our class took part. In November, Evelyn Yerger was admitted to our class. We were sorry to lose lay Tobias this year. SOPHOMORE YEAR We elected the following ofiicers at our class meeting on September 26, 1951: President ........ Franklin Reichert Treasurer .......... Iames Seigfried Vice-President ...... Connie Fessler Reporter ........ Marlene Kissinger Secretary ........... Bonnie Fessler Historian ........ Robert Luckenbill Adviser ............ Mr. Frederick K. Krauss In our sophomore year, we had two money-making projects: sold sweatshirts and held a bake sale. Members of the class took part in Girls' and Boys' Basketball, PIONEER, Chor- us, Orchestra, and F. H. A. During this year we lost Ray Long, Phyllis Renninger, Helen Heberling, Bruce Edwards, Harold Deibert, and Franklin Fahringer. IUNIOR YEAR Returning to school as juniors, we elected the following officers: President ........... Bonnie Fessler Treasurer ....... Marlene Kissinger Vice-President .... Franklin Reichert Reporter .......... Shirley Hummel Secretary. .......... Connie Fessler Historian ........ Robert Luckenbill Adviser ............ Mr. Frederick K. Krauss On the first day of school we were excited to find our class rings had arrived. This term was filled with various activities, including the Hypnotist Show, Iunior Autumn Hop, and two successful bake sales. We also participated in selling magazines with the seniors. The activ- ities in which we classmates participated were: Girls' and Boys' Basketball, PIONEER, F. H. A., Chorus, and Orchestra. This year we regretted losing Robert Stevens. SENIOR YEAR September, 1953, finally arrived, and we returned for our last trip. We decided to keep the same officers as last year. We had thirteen members remaining under the leadership of Mr. Krauss. Again we sold magazines as one of our activities. We had a bake sale and a record dance. Our play, Meet the Middletonsf' was presented on April 23rd. The follow- ing were elected to be on the yearbook staff: Marlene Kissinger, editor-in-chief: Bonnie Fessler, assistant editor: Connie Fessler, business manager: Florence Iones, assistant business manager: Franklin Reichert, sports editor: and Robert Luckenbill, assistant sports editor. We worked hard on the MAROON AND GOLD publication and looked forward to the Wash- ington class trip, which was taken on May 24, 25, and 26. Members of our class participated in all activities of the school. The four years spent at A. H. S. were happy days, and will always be remembered among our more pleasant memories. CLASS VVILL 3 Because we are aware of our closing journey at Auburn High School, we, the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-four, do hereby make the following bequests: A First: To our dear ALMA MATER, we wish continued success in guid- ing our underclassmates to the top. Second: To MR. KRAUSS, our principal and also our adviser in our soph- omore, junior, and senior years, we will our tenacity of completing and accomplishing all planned activities to his next Senior Class.
