This year. the membership of the Home Economics club, now the Future Home- makers of America, reached an all time high. Crowded with many outstanding activities the year proved to be a very successful one. Officers included: Betty Bradford. president: Georgia Jewett, vice-president: and Hallie Wil- liams. secretary-treasurer. Miss Rodewald was the club advisor. The year began with a get-acquainted tea. At this time all new members were met and welcomed by the rest of the girls. At a Future Homemakers of America Conference held at Edmonds in October, Edna Riddell and Joy Herrington represented the Auburn Chapter of the F. H. A. One of the aims of the F. H. A. girls is to learn the art of serving. They earned actual experience through serving at the football banquet on December 12 and the basketball banquet held after the season was over. Betty Bradford and Carol Ann Ludwig were the two lucky girls selected to attend a con- ference held at Spokane in early lVlay. As a worthy volunteer project the girls made smocks for the poor French girls and sent them to France for the Christmas season. To promote recreation among fellow students the Home Fc girls held a number of pep dances after the home basketball games. F. F. Jimmie Martin, James Jenkins, and Hugh Smith. Steers, swine, and feed were bought in a cooperative purchasing venture. Many ribbons were awarded Auburn boys at the Northwest Junior Poultry Exposition and the Northwest Junior Livestock Show. Early in the year a tractor and equipment was purchased. Activities also included ma- chinery assembly and repair, grub control, an annual picnic, and the annual parents' and sons' banquet. which was considered to be the nicest F. F. A. banquet in the state. The chapter sent Roy al Adams and Joel Magisos as delegates to the National li. F. A. convention at Kansas City, Missouri. Joel Magisos was one of the four state winners in the cooperative quiz contest, and also was awarded the King County Union Pacific Carl Ray- mond Gray Scholarship. In a newly organized basketball league of King County F. F. A. chapters, the Auburn chapter emerged as champions. Proudly they display the championship banner. A delegate was sent to the state convention at Vklashington State College. Several boys applied for the state farmer degree. ROW' lfStex-ens, Bland. Ulrich. Salisbuiv. bloloney. lxlounls. Gilbert. Masketeers Encouraging an appreciation of fine arts and participation in school dramatic productions has been the basic aim of the Masketeers. In the past years the Masketeers have been recognized as the talented organization of our high school. This year they proved themselves worthy of this recognition. , Under the competent leadership this year of Frank Wilks, president: Wilda Culp, vice- president: Shirley Gregory, secretary: and Dorothy Ness, treasurer, the Masketeers had an active calendar. Miss Marchant was the faculty adviser. All students who have earned three points through participation in plays or aiding in the production of them. are members of the club. Each year the members aid in the all-school play. This year a comedy hit, Brother Goose, was presented. Social activities included the sponsoring of a masquerade dance on Halloween held in the high school gym. An initiation of local members into the national organization known as the National Thespian was held for club members in January. An award for outstanding dramatic ability was presented to a senior boy and girl on class night. The National Thespian pins were also awarded on the same occasion. Z,7a!mfaZ .ml Jnfeffz enf To establish good fellowship among the students interested in the pursuit of knowledge. to encourage scholarship by recognition of merit and to promote good school citizenship are the aims of the Torch club. The Torch club, this year, was under the capable leadership of Elmore Clyde, president: and Miss Bacheler, adviser. They were assisted by Harold Kensler, vice-president: and Edna Riddell, secretary-treasurer. All students who maintained a 'B' average in their solid subjects during the year were eligible for membership. Sophomores receive a one bar pin, and juniors a two bar pin, as a symbol of their scholastic record. On class night those seniors who have a 'B' or better average for the last four years are awarded the national Torch pin. Eunds for the treasury, which pays for the senior pins, are collected through dues, the sponsoring of pep dances at noon and after the football and basketball games. and noon movies. Each year the Torch club has a project which is of service to the school and this year was no exception. The showcase in the main hall displayed various famous quotations and toes of noted men. Among the social activities of the year were the annual initiation of new members and swimming and other parties during the year. ROW ROW ROW' Rx NC' Rude Torch Club Li-pper. jones. An exhibit of art projects, decorating the main hall bulletin board, and the con- struction of colorful posters all went for a well rounded year. At a Christmas party the girls made evergreen sprays for the doors of the high school classrooms. and gifts were wrapped for the elderly people at the nursing home, and the children at NVashington Childrens Home. A . 4 45 The Homecoming crowd was disappointed be- cause of a 19-13 victory by Enumclaw. Dave Stevens led the way, but injuries slowed down the hard- fighting Trojans. Meeting with the rugged Sumner Spartans resulted in a 39-7 loss. The Spartans had a second quarter scoring spree causing the over- balanced score. The Trojan touchdown was scored by left half Darrell Lolfer. . The Trojans most vital game was played on the Kent 'AMud Bowl. The Trojan gridders scored a touchdown and made the conversion to win 7-6: Dave Stevens made the T.D. on a 60 yard run after intercepting a flat pass, and also scored the vital extra point. The whole line, led by Jack Hawkins and Bill Jurgens, played their finest game of the year. That evening the happy and proud Trojans brought the Taylor Trophy back home. The final game of the year was played at home against the Highline Pirates. The Pirates went ahead early. but Phil Grey made a beautiful catch to bring the Trojans within one point of the lead. In the second half Auburn went ahead. However, the Pi- rates were not to be denied and they marched to a T.D. and won the game with a place kick which sent them ahead 14-13. The entire squad played a line game, especially Big Bill Jurgens. Two Trojans made the All-Conference list: Harold Larson, end, and Jack Hawkins, guard. Har- old Larson was also elected honorary team captain and Darrell Loffer was voted the Inspirational Award. There were a large number of juniors on the squad which sounds good for next year's team which will carry the banners of Auburn to victory. BOTHELL, Guard LOFFER, Halfback TORRENS, Halfback PARCHEN.
