“Stairway to the Stars’’—Homecoming 1966— was held in mid-October during the half of the Auburn- Snider football game. The crowning ceremony took place before the Auburn grandstand, as the band formed a stairway in the b ackground. Elaine Miller was crowned homecoming queen by a bedraggled football player who was, in reality, the senior class president, Kenny Scott. The court included Leslie Mavis and Jeanne Turner, senior attendants; Carman Hagerty, junior attendant; Debbie Westland, sophomore attendant; and Becky Clement, freshman attendant. After the crowning ceremony, the queen and her court took their positions on the float, a master- piece assembled by the senior class under the direction of Joyce Morman and Wayne Wilcoxson. Depicting a giant stairway leading to the stars, the float was pulled once around the field; thus, the last homecoming in the history of AHS was brought to a close, with Elaine and her court taking their places as the last of Auburn High School’s homecoming royalty.
