“
RAINIER VISTA Hillside and valley, mountains of snow. Sun on the meadow gleaming far below; Nestled mid fir trees, our school so dear; Planted by Heaven, blest every year. AUBURN! We love thee for thy tender memories, AUBURN! We send thee greetings floating on the breeze; Always we ' ll cherish all the ideals taught by thee; “Training For Service at AUBURN ACADEMY! Presented by the Associated Students of Auburn Academy . - - Auburn, Washington We dedicate this volume of the Rainier Vista to one who has earned a place of deep respect in the hearts of the students. We of the Rainier Vista and Rainier Echoes staffs deeply appreciate the untold hours he has sacrificed in order to help us with the photography for the past five years. Those who have been in musical organizations under his direction or have taken music lessons from him have come to love and respect him both as a musician and as a friend. Without him the music department would not be quite the same. To you, Mr. Paul Coleman, we respectfully dedicate the 1958 RAINIER VISTA. 2 PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE The world today is divided into two camps, each striving for supremacy. We are involved in a race for survival that gives thinking people much concern. One college professor, speaking to a high school graduating class a few years ago, said he was glad he was sixty instead of sixteen, because he did not want to live the last half of the twentieth century. Paul speaks of a race in I Corinthians 9:24. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth a prize? So run that ye may obtain. As a race goes into the last lap and nears the finish line, there is much tension and anxiety concerning the outcome. This parallel surely pictures our world situation. Thinking people are cogni¬ zant of this fact, and we find strenous efforts being made. East and West, to encourage more young people to enter scientific and engineering fields. Ability to delve into the secrets of nature and to apply the knowledge gained in building more destructive weapons is a paramount part of this race. But an understanding of the science of salvation is a far more important goal, and the crown of victory will be given only to those who are diligently running the race. S-fiOKtp - MR. SABBATH SCHOOL The definition someone has applied to Sabbath School is The chgrch at study ' and this seems to be very fitting. Although there are many lessons to be prepared, for classes, most students still find time to study their Sabbath School lessons. There are interesting mission stories and spirited song services as well as special music provided for the most part by our student body talent. M. V. Many an enjoyable program has been prepared by our Missionary Volunteer leaders this year. M.V. is held each Sabbath afternoon with a wide variety of activities including moving pictures, panels, stories, and many more. SUNSHINE BANDS Each week a number of students go to various rest homes, helping to bring a little cheer and sunshine into the lives of others. The funds received will help further the medical missionary work and also help in the welfare centers in the United States. Each Friday night after vespers the students divide into their respective classes for prayer bands. After singing a chorus or two and reading a thought from the spirit of prophecy, smaller groups are formed and prayer is offered. The ushers club has done much to help maintain a quiet and reverent atmosphere during our religious meetings. Elder A. R. Lodahl Elder N. R.
