Christina Tsoli came from Greece to spend the year at A-HHS. we had open campus during semesters. Alan Long was Santa Claus. Janet Lewis was Edith Ann. prom was held at the Ramada Inn in Champaign. the gym was littered after noon hour. FFA held a farm animal zoo. ’'Woody” won the Pancake eating contest during Student Council week. North Central came to visit. Diane Dick was a hit as Snoopy. Seniors wore red, white and blue medallions at graduation for the Bicentennial. Coach Lyons and Mr. Frank Walker had pies thrown in their faces on awards day. She stayed with the William Lowe family of Hammond. During her stay at A-HHS Christina was a member of G.A.A. and F.H.A. She listed her hobbies as drawing and listening to Greek and American music. Jayne Noffke was a consistent first-place winner in the shot-put qualifying for the state track meet the third consecutive year. Michelle Osborne led track events in 1976 as she won in the 80 low hurdles consistently. Annetta Stephenson, Jorena McDade, and Michelle Os- 48 Combined Efforts Produce AT-TO-HI The skills of many people were utilized in producing the AT-TO-HI. Mrs. LoisLibbin advised the production staff and Mrs. Nancy Maxedon was the editorial advisor. Johanna Parrish and Julie Cordts were co-editors. Pictured at the left is the editorial staff. Many staff members sacrificed noon hours, study halls, and after school time to write articles or to help in the production of the school newspaper. 49 Scholastic Team Hosts Little Okaw Tournament The Scholastic team hosted the first Little Okaw Valley Scholastic Tournament in April at the high school. Schools who participated in addition to Atwood were Arthur and Newman. Julie Cordts was selected as the team's most valuable player. 50 Camera Club Assists POST Staff The Camera Club learned photographing and developing techniques during meetings. Some members supplied the POST staff with pictures. Camera Club also made pictures for a slide show shown during the North Central visitation. The Camera Club members are shown above. Service projects sopnsored by the FFA were selling pecans in the fall and seeds in the spring. The club made only a small profit from these projects. The purposes of these projects were to make pecans readily available during the holidays and to promote home gardening. Six members attended the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Personalities visiting this convention included Johnny Bench, Baseball player; Vice-president Nelson Rockefeller, and Jimmy Carter, presidential candidate. Those attending from Atwood were Steve Dick, Vicky Daugherty, Rolfe Cordts, Jana Eyestone, MarkWhit-ley, and advisor Mr. Frank Walker. Grade schoolers were invited to attend a farm animal zoo which was held during FFA week. Mr. Walker received many letters of thanks from the grade schoolers. The 1975 FHA organization started the new year with a party for the incoming members. Games such as apple bobbing and egg throwing were played at a Halloween party in October. In December, a Christmas party was held. The members exchanged gifts and decorated a Christmas tree. The new members had to go through a formal and an informal initiation. During the day, the initiates had to dress as old women and wear their hair in curlers. A potluck supper and a formal ceremony followed the informal initiation. Heart Sister week was held February 9-13. Each girl secretly sent something to her heartsister all week and then reveled her identity at a party on Valentine's Day. The organization sold candy and household kits. The money from the sales went toward a trip to Grant's Farm and the St. Louis Zoo. Pictured below are chapter mothers Mrs. Mauck and Mrs. Parrish. The A-HHS Jazz Band was awarded first place in their division and performed that evening at Kirkland Fine Arts Center with other first place winners. The student body was given the opportunity to listen to the band at a special assembly called the following week. The band received a trophy for their effort and later each member received a plaque. A girls' single ensemble consisting of Donna Swartz, Jill Harned, Diane Dick, and Shari Long also received a first. 63 Talent Show Raises Funds The variety show was held November 13 and 14 to raise funds for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown which was held in the spring. People were chosen to sing, dance the Charleston, portray Edith Anne, and become hillbillies. Different bands performed including German, Jazz and concert bands. 64 A-HHS Music Students Present “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” David Walker, band and choral director at A-HHS, directed the play ’’You're a Good Man Charlie Brown with Alan Long playing the lead character. The musical was held May 14 at the A -HHS gym. The many characters were Melodie Eagan as she played Lucy, Mike Murphy as Linus, Diane Dick as the good ol' dog” Snoopy, and Randy Harsh-barger as Shroeder. They competed with large schools as well as small schools. The band received a trophy and a check for $75. Shel-byville High School received first place. 7 Pep Club Reorganized An old club was reorganized at the beginning of the year. Pep Club was formed to raise spirit and support for the teams. Activities of the club were limited due to weather conditions and time. In September the POST staff began a month-long advertising campaign which culminated in reaching their $2,000 goal. In March the staff began their book sales campaign. Those who were given awards for their salesmanship were Pam Owens, Marlene Spencer, Chris Scheffer and Crystal Heit. The POST staff spent many hours designing pages, writing copy, typing and cropping pictures. The staff chose Rhonda Gillmore and Janice Ingrum as their most outstanding members. This award was based on cooperation with other staff members, efficiency and the amount of time devoted to the book. The A-HHS Spanish Club started their second year with a combination Halloween-Bingo party complete with a pumpkin-shaped pinata made by Lora Fleener and Paula Brown. Next on the agenda was taking 3 pinatas to the First grade at the grade school. In December, the Spanish Club went to various homes around Atwood singing Christmas carols in Spanish. Donna Swartz held a party afterwards in her home. In February A-HHS was visited by Emmy Bolonos, a foreign exchange student from Costa Rica, attending school at Arthur. After school Spanish Club held a Spanish potluck to which Emmy was invited. A bingo party was held in March. Scott Harris brought a cake with a prize in it. According to a Mexican custom the person who finds the prize in his cake is king. Scott Harris was king. In April Concha Casteneda came and spoke to the club about Cuba, her native country. SC Adopts New Constitution An important event for Student Council was adopting a new constitution. Two new items in the constitution were to elect the next year’s SC representatives in the spring before school is out, and also to have an alternate in each class. Another new event for SC was to hold a senior poll for the POST. SC hosted their traditional activities, Homecoming and Student Council Week. On March 17-19, Michelle Osborne, Jorena McDade, David Hall and Robin Favre went to Elk Grove Hish School for a Student Council exchange. Four of their Student Council members came to A -HHS. This gave everyone a chance to see how a bigger or smaller school is operated and what the students are like. On May 6-8, Tina Rodmaker, Michelle Osborne, Theresa Gaylor and Jorena McDade, accompanied by Mr. Cox, attended a Student Council Convention at Chicago. 90 Student Council Week was held Apr. 26-30. Days were designated as Dress-up and Candy Day, Hat and Stuffed Animal Day, 50's Day and Farmer Day. Members of Student Council took over the position of A -HHS teachers for one day. During the activity period throughout the week SC held such contests as bubble gum blowing, pancake eating, tricycle racing and three-legged racing. A basketball game between the girls' basketball team and faculty men was held also. During the noon hour SC had volleyball tournaments with the seniors winning first place. 91 Home Ec Students Model in Annual Fashion Show The annual Fashion Show was held May 7. Many garments were modeled by the Home Economics I and II classes. Thiseventwasarranged and supervised by the Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Alida Stone.
