Many long hours of work went into preparing class floats for the Homecoming parade. In the upper left picture, Dan Cooch and Jan Kiley are shown working on the first prize junior float. The lower left picture shows Marcia Rigg, Susan Chambers and Dale Brandenburg working on second prize sophomore float. In the upper right picture are freshmen Jane Humes, Mike Hendrickson, Jean Harsh-barger and Cathy Howard. Lower right shows Dan Bushman and Linda Harshbarger stuffing the senior float which tied with the freshmen for third prize. On page 17, upper left, is a shot of the bonfire, with a Newman Redskin” waiting to be thrown on the fire. Below it the football team gives the victory sign while perched on the Atwood fire truck. The picture at the right on page 17 shows the band and twirlers in action during the Homecoming parade. Lower left, Supt. Fred Boll drove an old car in the parade, accompanied by Bob Gregary. 16

OCT. 17-19, 1968 HOMECOMING Theme of the 1968 Homecoming was “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” with the theme song, “Yesterday.” Activities began with a bonfire at the high school and a snake dance through town on Thursday evening, Oct. 17. Friday afternoon the parade, which included the marching band, class floats, court, town fire trucks, old cars, and the student body, made its way downtown where a pep session was held. Float prizes were announced during the pep session. The Rajahs were victorious in the Homecoming game Friday night, defeating Newman, 31-0. Student council members decorated the stage with three panels representing “Yesterday,” ‘Today,” and ‘Tomorrow,” for the dance on Saturday, Oct. 19. Music was provided by the Artistics. Former Homecoming queens received special invitations and sat in a reserved row of chairs to watch the proceedings. Mary Poindexter, Fritz Boll, Judy Wallace and Bob Helfrich led the grand march into the gym. At the dance the 1968 Homecoming Queen, Rhonda Stephenson, was crowned by King Kent Phalen. Other members of the court were Pat Frazier and John Spencer, seniors; Stevenetta Early and Randy Beck, juniors; Carol Lust and Rick Ashmore, sophomores; Ruanita Bryson and Mike Mayhall, freshmen.
