CLASS HISTORY On September 9, 1963, thirty-six girls and twenty-nine boys began their freshman year at A-HHS to the tune of the pounding of hammers and the banging of boards. The school remodeling had not yet been completed, but this day could be put off no longer. Elected to lead the class were Milton Waltermire, president; Betty Mullinix, vice-president; Ann Funk, secretary; and Sam Barcus, treasurer. Representing the class on Student Council were Jan Taylor and John Livengood; and AT-TO-HI reporters were Vicky Schultz and Jerry Reeder. Initiation was held early in October with full skirts for boys and bib overalls for girls serving as the fashions of the day. Jan Taylor was junior varsity cheerleader and twirlers were Ronda Randall, Gloria Randolph and Ann Sims. Vicki Schultz was Homecoming attendant, and the freshman float, Rajahs Give Knights Washday Blues, won first prize. Judy Willoughby served as Library Club reporter, and Donna Harshbarger was high bowler in GAA. Dennis Spencer lettered in football his first year, Jan Taylor attended cheerleading camp at Normal, and Ann Funk and Jim Stiehl received firsts at the state music contest. During the year the class gained Linda Brown from Unity and Mike Burk from Portland, Oregon, and Lost Harlen Hatchel to Tuscola, Bob McMillan to Arthur, and Mike Conour, Kenny Hatton and George Kibler, who withdrew. Mrs. Joyce Forsythe Brownfield and Coach Bob Williams were the freshman class advisers. As sophomores, thirty-seven girls and twenty-six boys returned. John Livengood was elected class president; Jerry Reeder, vice-president; Jan Taylor, secretary; and Brian Hadden, treasurer. Vicki Schultz and John Livengood were SC representatives, and Becky Chesnut and Milton Waltermire, reported for the AT-TO-HI. Junior varsity cheerleaders were Linda Brown and Jan Taylor. Sophomore twirlers were Donna Harshbarger, Ronda Randall, Gloria Randolph and Ann Sims. Jan Taylor was sophomore Homecoming attendant. Judy Willoughby was an at-large reporter on the paper, and Jim Stiehl reported band news. Judy also represented the Library Club on Student Council. Donna Harshbarger was again high bowler in GAA. Brian Hadden, Jim Stiehl and Milton Waltermire played in the school dance band. Ann Funk won a first at the state music contest with a flute solo. Essay winners on Why Should Americans Vote were Ann Funk, Mike Burk and Ronda Randall. Dennis Spencer lettered in football, and Cary Chapman, Bob Rentschler, Jim Stiehle and Milton Waltermire were track lettermen. Katana Flanagan attended GAA leadership camp, and Ann Funk attended music camp at U of I. Gained furing the year were Betty Woodward from Decatur and Ann Henry from Urbana. Ann then moved to Unity, Marsha Stark to Oakland, and Sandra Anderson withdrew. Mrs. Louise Bean and Dean Strobel served as sophomore class advisers. Thirty-five girls and twenty-five boys began their junior year at A-HHS. Class officers were Jim Stiehl, president; Brian Hadden, vice-president; and Cleolyn Senteny, secretary-treasurer. Student Council representatives were: Mary Murphy and San Barcus; and AT-TO-HI reporters were Ann Funk and Stanley Arbogast. Elected varsity cheerleaders were Linda Brown and Jan Taylor. Donna Harshbarger was band majorette, and twirlers were Ronda Randall, Gloria Randolph and Ann Sims. Linda Brown represented the class in the Homecoming court. The class float received second place. Magazine captains were Bob Rentschler and Milton Waltermire, and high salesmen were Martha Cooch, Ann Funk and Linda Rigg. The class play, You Can't Take It With You , was presented November 19, 1965. Pat Daugherty was chosen POST editor. Bob Rentschler, assistant editor; Katana Flanagan; business manager, Vicki Schultz, advertising manager with Becky Chesnut as her assistant; Jan Taylor, subscription manager; Ann Funk, literary editor with Ann Hale as her assistant; and Cary Chapman, photographer. Lettering in football were Mike Burk, Cary Chapman, Brian Hadden, Howard Kamm, Jerry Reeder, Dennis Spencer, Jim Stiehl and Milton Waltermire. Receiving a letter in basketball was Milton Walter-

Holding offices in other organizations were GAA vice-president, Katana Flanagan; Jam Taylor, secretary; Donna Harshbarger, treasurer; Vicki Schultz, Student Council secretary; Frances Lindstorm, treasurer; FHA secretary Janet Quick; Bob Arnett, FFA vice-president and Judy Willoughby, Library Club vice-president. Judy Willoughby was junior editor of the AT-TO-HI with other junior lettermen winners being Becky Chesnut, Martha Cooch, Ann Funk, Anita Patton, and Jim Stiehl. Members of the production staff were Pat Daugherty, production editor; Ann Hale, Johnetta Humes, Betty Mullinix, Ann Sims, and Jan Taylor. American Legion selected Cleolyn Senteney to attend Girl's State and Jim Stiehl to Boy's State with their alternates being Pat Daugherty and Milton Waltermire. Attending Egyptian Music Camp were Ann Funk and Linda Rigg. Jerry Reeder and Milton Waiter-mire attended Christian Athlete's Camp in Colorado, and Mike Corwin attended conservation camp. Jan Taylor and Milton Waltermire represented A-HHS at USI Day. Jim Stiehl received a first on his baritone at the State Music Contest. Members of the dance band were Brian Hadden, Jerry Reeder, and Milton Waltermire. Ann Funk, Cleolyn Senteney, Bob Rentschler and Jim Stiehl were members of the newly formed Douglas County Youth Panel. The junior class hosted the seniors at the Prom on April 29, 1966 at the Champaign Moose Club, with the theme being Days of Wine and Roses. Ten members of the class moved or dropped out during the year. Class advisers were Mrs. Irene Davenport and David Dunscomb. Fifty seniors began their last year together on August 30, 1966. Dennis Spencer was elected class president; Cleolyn Senteney, vice-president; and Donna Harshbarger, secretary-treasurer. SC representatives were Judy Willoughby and Bob Rentschler. Jan Taylor and Linda Brown were varsity cheerleaders, with Jan serving as captain. Donna Harshbarger was band majorette, and Ronda Randall and Gloria Randolph were Twirlers. King Milton Waltermire crowned Queen Jan Taylor at the 1966 Homecoming. Grand march leaders were Linda Brown, Linda Rigg, Jerry Reeder and Dennis Spencer. Senior Attendant was Becky Chesnut with her excort, Cary Chapman. Senior were well-represented among the organization officers: Student Council president, Mary Murphy, was aided by Secretary Becky Chesnut and treasurer Sam Barcus. Brian Hadden was president of band, Milton Waltermire was vice-president and Becky Chesnut was secretary. FFA president was Jerry Reeder and Bob Arnett was secretary. FHA officers were Frances Lindstrom, vice-president; Ann Sims, secretary; and Gloria Randolph, treasurer. Bob Scheffer was president, of Library Club, and Judy Willoughby was secretary-treasurer; Letterman's Club officers were Jerry Reeder, president; Dennis Spencer, vice-president; and Brian Hadden, secretary-treasurer. AT-TO-HI editorial staff writers were Ann Funk and Judy Willoughby, co-editors; Gloria Randolph cartoonist; Jim Stiehl, sports editor; Martha Cooch, Katana Flanagan, Marilyn Laughlin, Anita Patton and Linn Traxler. Production staff members were Becky Chesnut, production editor; Kay Appleby, Opal Carr, Donna Harshbarger, Frances Lindstrom and Janet Quick. Lettering in football were Stanley Arbogast, Cary Chapman, Brian Hadden Howard Kamm, Jerry Reeder, Dennis Spencer and Milton Waltermire. Basketball lettermen were Cary Chapman, Jerry Reeder, Bob Rentschler, and Jim Stiehl. Feudin, ” the senior class play, was presented on April 21, 1967. On April 28, the seniors were guests of the juniors at the Prom which was held at the Moose Club in Champaign. Ann Funk received the DAR award and Milton Waltermire received the SAR award. The Arion award was presented to Ann Funk and the Bausch-Lomb Science Award was awarded to Jim Stiehl. National Honor Society members were Becky Chesnut, Pat Daugherty, Ann Funk, Donna Harshbarger, Cleolyn Senteney, Jim Stiehl, Jan Taylor and Milton Waltermire. Two classmates lost during the year were Barb Gilmore to Cerro Gordo, and Bill Mitchell. Class advisers were Miss Lois Shonkwiler and David Dunscomb. Baccalaureate was held Sunday, May 28, followed by Commencement on Wednesday, May 31. Scholastic honors went to Ann Funk, valedictorian; and Cleolyn Senteney and Jim Stiehl, co-salutator-ians. Legion awards were presented to Ann Funk and Milton Waltermire. 27
