That year they lost Diane Dallas and Doris Hatchel to Tuscola, Anita McMillan to Arthur, and Pat Crowder and Jewell Hinds took a correspondence course to graduate in 1964. May 1, the Prom was given in honor of the seniors at the Hotel Orlando in Decatur. Sue Blaney was chosen as representative to Girl’s State of which she was elected governor. Cindy Murphy and Sue Pederson attended GAA Camp. That summer Bob Stiehl toured Europe with the Youth Band of America. Class advisers were Mrs. Irene Davenport and Mr. David Dunscomb. In the fall of ’64 they returned forty-nine strong. Carol Farris moved to Chicago and Martha Chesnut came from Kentucky. They elected Chris Wunnenberg, president; Danny Powell, vice president; John Schable, treasurer; and Cindy Murphy, secretary. Representing the class on Student Council were Gaye Jurgens and George Pourchot. Also serving on Student Council were Steve Kiley. president; Jane Born, band, and Patsy Reisner GAA. Gaye Jurgens, captain; Sandy Simmons, and Sue Blaney again cheered on the varsity squad. Head majorette Debbie Reeder was the lone twirler in marching band. King Danny Powell crowned Susan Schable. who was chosen to reign as Homecoming Queen. Grand march leaders were Gaye Jurgens, Sue Blaney. George Pourchot, and Darrell Crist. Sandy Simmons was senior attendant, escorted by Chris Wunnenberg. AT-TO-H1 writers were Sally Helfrich and Sue Blaney, co-editors; Susan Schable, Jane Born, Steve Kiley, Gene Yoachum. Charles Sharp, and Bob Stiehl. Seniors on production staff were: Jeanne Scheffer, editor; Susan Schable, Glenda Beck, Linda Nichell, Wanda Amick, and Carolyn Lowder. Danny Powell, George Pourchot, Darrell Crist. Steve Kiley, Bob Moody. Chris Wunnenberg, Gene Yoachum, Alan Schultz, Ray Willoughby, and Tom Badger lettered in football. Lettering in basketball were Steve Kiley, Ray Willoughby. George Pourchot, John Schable, and Craig Chapman. Track lettermen were Steve Kiley, Ray Willoughby, Darrell Crist, Alan Schultz, Craig Chapman, and Danny Powell. Seniors holding offices in organizations were: Student Council: Steve Kiley, president; Susan Schable, secretary; Danny Powell, treasurer; band: John Schable, president; Bob Stiehl. vice president; Susan Schable, secretary-treasurer; Jane Born, Student Council; FHA: Gaye Jurgens, president; Sue Blaney. vice president; Linda Killen, treasurer; Sally Helfrich. secretary; FFA: Dale Arnett, president; Bob Moody, treasurer; Wayne Lindstrom, reporter. The seniors gave their play Fireman, Save My Child! on April 23, 1965. State contest winners were Bob Stiehl, cornet solo; Chris Wunnenberg, vocal solo; The Woodsmen, vocal quartet; Bob Stiehl, Cindy Murphy, and Chris Wunnenberg, cornet quartet; Jane Born, Debbie Reeder, and Gaye Jurgens, vocal ensemble; Ray Willoughby, horn trio. Bob Stiehl received the Arion Award for being the most outstanding senior band member. May 14, the Prom was held in honor of the seniors at the Moose Hall in Champaign. Chosen for the National Honor Society were Terry Martin. Steve Kiley, Chris Wunnenberg. John Schable, George Pourchot. Danny Powell, and Ray Willoughby. Steve Kiley received the SAR Award and Susan Schable won the DAR award. Baccalaureate was held Sunday evening, May 23, and final commencement exercises were held Tuesday. May 25. Out of the original fifty-one freshmen, forty-seven were graduated. Class president, Chris Wunnenberg, introduced the speakers. Steve Kiley, saluta-torian, gave the welcome and valedictorian, Terry Martin, gave the farewell. Susan Schable gave the class prophecy. Bob Steihl played a cornet solo, and the Woodsmen provided musical entertainment. Legion Award honors went to Steve Kiley and Susan Schable.
