Class History On August 31, 1961, fifty-one wide-eyed fresh- Merle Garrett, Charles Provine, and Sue Collins dropped men entered A-HHS for the first time. out. Elected as the first class president was Gaye Jurgens, with vice president, Tony Taylor; secretary, John Schable; and treasurer, George Pourchot. Elected to Student Council were Danny Powell and Sue Pederson. AT-TO-HI reporters were Sue Blaney and Tony Taylor. Gaye Jurgens and Doris Hatchel were elected B-team cheerleaders. Homecoming attendant Sue Blaney chose Gale Luck as her escort. That year they lost Amber Carpenter, Guy Elder, Grand McLeod, Pat Hayes, Nancy Harrison, and Mardel Nunn. Vada Sample, Bill Gentry, and Raymond Bass dropped out. Jane Born was GAA camp representative. Initiation was held early in September. The return party was given March 26, 1962, in the form of a Mickey Mouse Show. Class advisers were Miss Joyce Forsythe and Mr. C. E. Rogers. In September 1962, they returned as sophomores. George Pourchot was chosen to lead the class as president, along with Susan Schable, vice president; Sandy Simmons, secretary; and Steve Kiley, treasurer. Elected to Student Council with holdover Danny Powell, was Debbie Reeder. AT-TO-HI reporters were Tony Taylor and Sandy Simmons. Also serving on the editorial staff were Cindy Murphy, cartoons; Gene Yoachum, assistant sports editor; and Ray Willoughby, band reporter. J. V. cheerleaders were Gaye Jurgens, captain, and Sue Blaney. Sue Collins and Sue Blaney twirled in marching band. Steve Kiley and Danny Powell lettered in football while Bob Moody was the only sophomore lettering in track. Susan Schable was chosen sophomore attendant with escort Aaron Romine. That year the Sophomores won first prize for their Homecoming float, an elephant. Serving as organization officers were: Jane Born, GAA treasurer; Sally Helfrich, FHA treasurer; and Steve Kiley, band Student Council representative. That year the class lost Neil Montgomery, Judy Gunter, and Mike Bishop, who moved. Richard Conour, Debbie Reeder was selected to attend GAA camp. Class advisors were Mrs. Louise Bean and Mr. Oscar Brewer. As juniors they numbered fifty-five. Elected as officers were Tony Taylor, president; John Schable, vice president; Sue Pederson, secretary; and Gaye Jurgens, treasurer. Danny Powell was Student Council holdover with Susan Schable the elected representative. Other members of Student Council were Steve Kiley, president and Jane Born, GAA representative. Gaye Jurgens, Sue Blaney, and Sandy Simmons served as varsity cheerleaders. Sue Blaney and Debbie Reeder were twirlers in marching band. AT-TO-HI writers were Jane Born, Tony Taylor, Steve Kiley, Sue Blaney. Gene Yoachum, Cindy Murphy, Bob Stiehl, Sally Helfrich, and Susan Schable. Serving on production staff were Sally Helfrich, Jane Born, and Gaye Jurgens. Juniors holding offices in various other activities were Sally Helfrich, FHA treasurer; Sue Pederson, GAA vice president: Sandy Simmons, GAA treasurer; Bill Sims, Library Club secretary-treasurer; Dale Arnett, FFA secretary; and Bob Moody, FFA treasurer. Elected to POST Staff were: Gaye Jurgens, editor; Jane Born, assistant editor; Cindy Murphy, literary editor; Sue Pederson, subscription manager; Sue Blaney. assistant subscription manager; Linda Killen, advertising manager; Sandy Rees, assistant advertising manager; John Schable, business manager; and Craig Chapman, photographer. Lettering in football were: Danny Powell, George Pourchot, Darrell Crist, Steve Kiley, Bob Moody, Ray Willoughby, Alan Schultz. Gaye Jurgens was chosen junior attendant with Danny Powell her escort. The junior float, Non-stop to Victory , placed second in the Homecoming parade. Bob Moody was the only junior to letter in basketball. Craig Chapman. Bob Moody, Danny Powell, and Ray Willoughby lettered in track. State band contest winners were Bob Stiehl. cornet solo; Chris Wunnenberg, vocal solo; and the Woodsmen quartet, Bob Stiehl, Steve Kiley, Ray Willoughby, and Chris Wunnenberg.
