V In the leaf-flecked gardens that surround the White House, a workman was planting a shrub when he heard the terrible news. He simply stopped work, stunned. And all through the rest of the country, too, time seemed to stand still. The unbelievable had happened. If was a moment that changed every life in the nation. It changed the color of the sky, left a dark cloud over the country, left every American feeling not only stricken but somehow dishonored. —THE SATURDAY EVENING POST •■ •■:- ■;■■; 12 14 63 A DfiOIMSTRHTIOn 4 %i. -Hofkuii MUHS ' Jbutuct Swpiuntmiint ojj SdwoU ooM ofi VmtM Eldon J. I ' ' i ' N TIGS a ,4 SuM (Johui Jouijjii SxddfUjc Sudmt June 19, 1963 was the happiest day in my life. On this day I came to know that I was one of seventy-six lucky teenagers from India to come to the United States. Ever since then, the days of my life have been full of excitement, wonder, new learning, fun, and experiences. I think that this is the best thing that can happen to a teenager. I have learned tremendous things this year. The American Field Service program has helped me to realize that we do live in one world. Now I know that we all are the same, and are heading towards the same goal. So the materialistic or superficial differences really have no mean- ing. They should not stand in our way to understand humanity or world- wide brotherhood. If we teenagers, who are the future leaders of our countries, realize this, then world peace is not far away. — Sunita Vohra The A.F.S. has made it possible for qualified, eager teenagers to live in foreign lands. To learn for themselves the difference between the myths and reality, to exchange ideas and traditions. We, as her host family, have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of sharing Sunita ' s impressions and reactions. We have seen her delight and listened with interest as she has considered the good and the not so good of both countries. We have realized with her how much we ' d all benefit if we could combine many of our ways as two great na- tions of the world. This community has been fortunate in hav- ing Sunita Vohra as it ' s first A.F.S. studept. With her strong sense of tolerance and un- derstanding she has absorbed much of what truly makes us Americans appear as they do in the eyes of foreigners. The exchange will be complete when she returns home and spreads her knowledge among her own people. This selection is made on the basis of the service each have given to the school in the past four years. Charles Stephani and Pat Lynch received the honor this year. Charlie ' s activities in- cluded Rally, Block A, CSF, Football and Junior Class President. Pat has participated in GAA, BOC, Rally, Pep Club, Student Body Vice President (Junior Year), and this year she was Student Body Secretary. Charlie and Pat both have excellent scho- lastic records, another reason why they are truly deserving of this honor. In an amazing comeback season, the dorkhorse Falcon cagers won eight of their last nine league games to come out on top of what proved to be one of the toughest leagues and most highly contested championships in the valley. In the crucial final game, the Falcons had to do without the services of starting forward, Billy Wil- liams, who became seriously ill the day before the game. With a spirited do it for Billy effort, they handed top contender Tracy a memorable 53-48 setback and took home a share of the championship. The 1963-64 season produced not only a title, but a very fine 17-6 overall season record featuring the most effective defense in the entire area, a highly-drilled, well-coached, agitating attack, with good balance in teamwork and scoring, led by the number two scorer in the league, Pete Zuniga. The entire team is to be congratulated for its fine performance on the courts and especially for its contribution in the heightening of school spirit and pride in AHS. tlumpi! HmRDS.
