Dr. Max Sternlieb Health education is the key to effective school and community action for improved health. All programs are planned with school administrators, teachers, parents. physicians, dentists, and other interested groups and individuals for a coordinated and effective program. The public health nurse's Work centers on tre family and stretches from the home into all parts of community life. The nurse works closely with the physician, sani- tarian, health educator and other members of the health team. In the same way she cooperates with civic groups and leaders. The first diabetic program in Portage County was sponsored by the Portage County Medical Society in connection with National Diabetic Week-November 11th, 1951 through November 17th, 1951. Tests were performed in the county schools and included children, as well as adults. Number of adults tested, 725, nume- ber of children tested, 7,771.
