We the Speedometer Committee Miss Lena D8Slml0 Miss Carolyn Bruce Mr O E Hlssom Mr Brown Jenkins and I got off to an early start last fall but as I sit here wutmg this I am wondering if It was early erough It seems eyery year we plan to get ahead of all deadline wolnes but before xt IS very far along we are being plagued by them The first concern of this years commlttee was the annual Speedometer banquet We were all rather reluctant to make decisions before we found out what your students wanted The banquet as tho ore last year was a huge success Rootstown School welcomed L5 with arms full of delicious food We thank you Rootstown Mr Howard Cook and Miss Lena D1S1m1o The group rnade seyeral decisions and many helpful comments The suggestion to make the cover design tradltional met with so much applowal that It was voted unanimously to keep the coxer design of last years book each year changing only the color and the symbol from year to year The advertlslng campaign under the able direction of Miss Bruce and Mr Jenkins was launched at this meetmg Everyone left full of enthusiasm We ale golng oyer the too this year Some of us lost the enthusiasm before we got to the first store others gained as they went along The oyer all picture to Result about what we had last year I would like to take a little of this space to give a pat on the back to those who did a lot to raise the money to make th1s book successful Tom McManus Windham Senior group Suffleld Lois Hall Garrettsvllle Lorraine Welsko Palmyra and Jackie Mlllel Paris ln the older listed were the highest in obtammg ads They all obtamed over one hundl ed dollars the leading three well over one hundred fifty The total of these five schools was more than the total for the othel fifteen put together There IS much that could be wrltten about the trials tribulations and thrills of helping to publish the Speedometer I am sure Miss DeSlm1o and Mr Hlssom would be willing to sell out cheap before they get this piece of copy reworked lnto a printable form To them goes the credit of copy reading and put ting all the copy handed them by you people into a form that can be read by the prlnter I have thanked everyone on the commlttee for the help they have given to you 1n putting out this book for remember they are dolng this for you and vou should th nk tkem They have put ln long hours for no pay and little praise I will now thank myself If it haunt been that I round my seli with an old teacher who once taught me in grade school on the commlttee I woulant have to tnank myself for I hadn t mtended to do anv thmg But what can you do when your former teacher says You write the report of the Speedometer Committee but write the report So here it is folks fox your GISHDPFOYHI the Report of the WIISHC tlons of the 1949 Speedometer Committee Chanman 7 . , . .'
