ATTLEBOno HIQH SCHOOL rhroughout our twelve years of school we have had many different experiences which have affected us in some way. As we approach graduation we realize how important these high school years have been to us. There have been many people; guidance counselors, teachers, friends, to whom we could turn. When we became discouraged or wanted to give up, they were always there lending their support and making us feel needed. They offered us advice and taught us valuable lessons which we will remember for the rest of our lives. What we have learned during this time will enable us to survive future years successfully. Running tfirougfi ttie hallways acting like complete lunatics is the fastest and easiest way to get to the other side of the school. And who could forget the high-fives and the groups hanging around the cafeterias, checking out what everyone is wearing and who has the homework done!!! m m m diking to class, people M mW re always standing in m m fhe corridors, either W W waiting for someone, or trying to be noticed, but the students and teachers are always different in the classroom. The teachers have a variety of personalities and characteristics. Some like to keep the class amusing by telling jokes while others are more traditional. But there are always teachers who inspire students to learn. The way each classroom is decorated has a lot to do with the personalities of the teachers. Some rooms have millions of plants while others have funny posters. Regardless of the decor, students and teachers are seen working together helping to shape our future. t the beginning of the school year, it takes a few days for the underclassmen to become - B familiar with high school life. Freshman are amazed at all the different types of people they see. They ' re afraid of some and laugh at others. When they return as Sophomores, changes are noticeable. They are not as quiet and participate more in the pep rallies and other school activities. By the time they are Juniors, they know the school pretty well. They become more independent and are anxious for the year to end so they can become the Seniors. 18 Peter Amaral Ann Marie Arundale David Andrews Mario Anelunde Holly Askew Kenneth Auclair 19 Kazia Carrillo Bridge tte Carter James Carty 26 27 Captain Attleboro, emerging from the croud in a single bound, proudly prances around the gymnasium receiving his praise from all of the Attleboro fans. The crowd goes wild as they chase after the Feehanite, fearing for his life, and runs him out of our territory. Thus ends, another exciting moment in the life and times of Captain A ttleboro. Cjthy Marsden, who was a very special teacher and friend to all, passed away this past September. She died a very sudden, tragic death which conies as a shock to all. Cathy Marsden was very accomplished woman who held a special place in so many hearts and minds. She was a person with such a gentle, carefree spirit, you could not help but like her immediately - always willing to share a part of her treasured life with everyone, yet always there to listen to others, whether it was a problem, a joy, or just chatter. These characteristics, along with many others, made her an exceptional teacher. Just knowing that the teacher was on your side and really cared about each student as an individual made the students try that much harder. By sharing her many experiences with the students, she made her classes a little more interesting. When asked to describe Cathy Marsden ' s gentle, life-loving attitude and different style, her teacher-friends classified her as a flower child of the 60 ' s. She grew through adolescence in the free-spirited 1960s and co uldn ' t face letting those great times just pass by. She held that special spirit in her heart and in her dress for many years. Originally from Newton and a graduate of Regis College in Weston, Cathy attained her goals of teaching and raising a beautiful family. Her one child, Jesse Dylan, meant the world to her. She shared with him her great loves of poetry, theater, and nature. Vermont had special meaning to Mrs. Marsden because of her love for nature. She loved the trees, the birds, the grass, the mysteriously trickling rivers, and especially the flowers. She felt that death was beautiful in the way that each person was returned to nature as a blade of grass on the earth. Every day had such great value in Cathy ' s life. She faced her problems positively and usually managed to overcome them. She looked at everyone and everything with a sentimental, rather than a materialistic value. She found all people fascinating because everyone has something different to offer to others, and always managed to keep this happy versatile atmosphere about her. Cathy Marsden touched so many people in so many ways that she will never he erased from our memories. We will all treasure everything learned and miss the personal touch with which it was taught. We shall think of her as we approach our new lives, read a good book, or even ivhile passing a beautiful spring floiver bed. If only every person could hold a piece of that life-loving happiness that she possessed, the world would be a much nicer place. We were the last class to enjoy the benefits of her teaching, and that means a great deal to us. As we all mo e on from this school, holding our special memories of limes pa sed, we ' d just like to ••ay I hank you, .Mrs. . larsden for sharing so much of you t ilh us. Robyn Wild - Class of I Ho These sudden ends of time must give us pause. We fray into the future rarely wrought. Save in the tapestries of afterthought. More time More time (This is a stanza quoted from one of Cathy Marsden ' s favorite poems) Not long ago you went away. There is so much we ' d like to say. We hope you know you ' re missed so much. By family, friends, and those you ' ve touched. We ' ll never forget the joy you gave. Although you ' re gone, the memories stay. He came over the back fence for years, it seems, to share his secrets, to share his schemes. Now flowers ring a wounded tree like a monument to soldiers fallen in this ageless war of growing up, and growing older. A good, good boy, better than most, he ' s sailing to a different coast. His absence aches, we ' re short of breath, nothing hurts like love, and death. Over the backyard fence he came for years and years, it seems, sharing smiles and silly jokes, sharing hopes and dreams. The rain, like our tears, is not yet done, though he ' s in a place of light and sun. Just think that now, in a different sense, he ' s climbing over some other fence. Our first day of school, as freshman, was quite an experience. We were all nervous, anxious, and scared. We pulled together, though, under the leadership of our class president. Matt Manlove. Our fundraiser, a magazine drive, proved to be a success. The float committee constructed a nice float with a theme that has yet to be topped, fly high with the pride and the power of 86 . We came together as a class when we beat the juniors and seniors and went on to be the tug-of-war champions, a simple title which , we accepted with great pride. We ended the year with the freshman social, and everyone had a great time. As sophomores we entered the school with much more confidence. We made it through our freshman year and had matured into a class that was ready to accept a change. With the leadership of Bill Semple, the class president, we were an outspoken class. We thought that the magazine drive, a traditional fundraiser for sophomores, was over used. With permission, we sold wrapping paper, which proved to be much more profitable. Since then It has been a tradition for sophomores to sell wrapping paper. When we won the float contest it was no surprise to the class. We had put our creativity and talents together to make a truly conceptual and exceptional float. Our sophomore gathering went over extremely well, and it capped off a great year. Our junior year was an exciting one — there was alot to be excited about. The football team was the best It had been in years. This affected the spirit of the school, as well as reflecting the year for the juniors. It was our big chance to play powderpuff!! The whole junior team was psyched and ready to play hard football. Even though the seniors beat us, (real bad), we still remained a unified class. Under the leadership of Christine Schneider, class president, we had a highly successful, as well as profitable, fundraiser — candy bars, of course. This fundraiser was just what our class needed to set the pace for an awesome prom. When we came to the close of the year, many found It hard to accept that indeed come Septemeber, we were going to be the senior class of Attleboro High School. We had accomplished the three years of school that lead to the climax of our high school careers. Well it had finally come as more of a surprise than we could believe, our high school, and for some, school career, had but one year left. It was hard to accept that we were now role models. We came into the year a highly organized unit — until the powderpuff trauma. After this rough time, we were again an organized class. The true test was the senior prom, even though during which the band was having technical problems, throughout the evening we remained calm and it turned out spectacular. Our fundraiser, which started slowly, turned out to raise a lot of funds. Our float won the contest for the second time. We also won the tug-of-war contest again, for a total of three wins, making us undefeated. Then came our last week of school which was loaded with activities such as the reception, breakfast, and of course, graduation. As we grow older and we all go our different ways in life, I would hope that someday you take out this yearbook and clear the dust off it, open it up and remember all the good times we had as a class, as well as among our closest friends. Good luck in your every adventure. Will Sencabaugh Senior Class President Mike Leahy (Vice Pres.), Will Sencabaugh (Pres.). Sue April (Sec.). Elizabeth Simonds (Adv.). Elaine Piava (Adv.). ' By mid-evening we were a hopeiess case of twists and hustles, hosted by a roc -n-roll D. J. What was first thought of as a small, boring, class dance, turned into a great success and left us waiting in anticipation for the next year ' s dance. APRIL Zh , 19 ' viSPimiO J t was finally our third year of high school, and time for the event we ' ve all been waiting for: The Junior Prom. This was the first formal dance our class had ever attended. It was held at the Seekonk Hearthstone Inn, on April 26, 1985. All the boys looked extremely handsome in their tuxes and the girls looked sparkling in their gowns. I don ' t think our class has ever looked better! When we weren ' t dancing to music by Sight ,, we were off somewhere snapping pictures of friends: pictures we ' ll look back on forever The prom was truely great because we all participated in dancing, and everyone had a good time. The night came to a close after the last song, which was the prom theme: Inspiration by Chicago. 1 i smhu 7 76 senior prom. . . Ours was like every prom. With the exception of the fact. That our prom was filmed. It was much like the summer. that you thought would never end. So magical, so mystical And than one day you wake up From a deep sleep. And realize that the summer is over. And all you have left are the memories. The Senior Prom was like that long, lost summer. It, too, was magical and mystical. Tuxes and Satin gowns. And music of our time. The smell of rose, candle, and perfume. Love was endent. . . and however different our lives and schools. We were all gathered for the same reason. And we all shared the same kind of happiness. That can only be found in ones ' youth. Like the summer I never thought would end, The senior Prom ended. With ' ' All tvly Love. Pi MMISRa iM Food 1. Pizza 2. Chinese 3. Ice Cream Movie 1. And remember it ' s not who you are, it ' s what you do and how you do it that make a difference. America -the great dream of many Europeans. I had one year to live like an American kid and it was a lot of fun to go to A.H.S. It was a very good experience for me to live in a different way than at home. I learned that you can never say it ' s wrong how Americans live- they live only different and some things seem funny to me! I want to thank my teachers and classmates for their help during the year and especially the first couple of weeks- weeks of confusion for me. In June I ' ll go back to Austria but I ' ll never forget my senior year at A.H.S. Brigit Fuchs Carlota Pombo, Bngit Fuchs. Anna Staat I am very impressed with the High School and with all the different activities that one can study. It is also great to see so many people involved with sports at the school. Personally I am very happy to be here, both teachers and students have been a tremendous help to me in adjusting to this new culture. Carlota Pombo I has been a real experience for me to come to this big country so far away from my home I ' v e encountered many new situations, eaten food I never dreamed of and I have learned a lot about myself The American way of life is so different from my like back in Sweden, but after a while you have got in to it and everything goes fine You really get an oppertunity to meet all kinds of different people, because when you are in another country you have to ask about information and make people aware that you may not understand their rules I want to thank those students who helped me during the first confusing weeks m school I also want to thank one of my hostsisters Kelli Grimes, who is a Sophomore here, for her support during this school year and of course the rest of her family for being an excellent hostfamily for me which means a lot when you are so far from your own home I have made so many new friends in this school and I know that I ' m going to miss them when I go back home but they always be in my mind and I shall always remember my Senior year at Attleboro High School U.S.A. as the most exciting year of my life. Missing: Liz Martin, Beth Leroux, Dan nine Harpin. To the ClasB of 1986: Four years ago, our senior year and Tattletale ' 86 seemed so very far away. However, with each day came each year, and with each year finally came 1986. Our life at A.H.S. has gone by so quickly, the only real memories we have left are stored in this book. The staff received and unbelievable amount of support from everyone this year, 48 color pages and eight additional pages to that has made TattMalo ' 86 the biggest and brightest Attleboro has ever seen. To everyone who dropped in now and then to check up on us and show their interest, thanks, it really meant a lot. Our enthusiasm for the year was evident everyday fifth period and all those half days when we were sent out to sell ads. It all paid off in the end for our deadlines were met, money was raised, and many pizza parties were held. (Mr Frederick always had the last piece!) This years staff would like to thank the faculty for their understanding, Mrs. Soucy for her classes participation in the essays, Lisa Doucette and Ray Nason for their artwork and neverending help, Mr. Dan Smith, our Jostens ' representative for his creativity and solutions to our many problems, and Mr. Gary Melino, our professional photographer from Brown Studios for his flexible schedule and ability to show our class as we all know it: the best! Finally, our advisor and friend, Ivir Donald Frederick. The possibility of the Tattletale ' 86 containing 48 extra color pages resulted in many different situations. However, f r. Frederick ' s support and help from the Senior Class, the completion of 64 color pages was not only a reality but a great success. Thanks so much! Now it ' s time to move onward to people, places, and things unknown. We all share the common experience of being a part of the Class of 1986 which hopefully will be remembered for a lifetime. Along with the rest of the staff we would like to wish you the best of luck and and success in whatever you go one to do. We hope everyone will personally be able to keep in touch with one another; however, if that becomes impossible we hope Tattletale ' 86 can help. It has allowed discovery of new frontiers in the exciting regions beyond Earth. Its expectation are limitless and its vision boundless. Our heroes have been the men and women who have been fortunate enough to be a part of this new era of exploration. In order to make these visions a reality, it is sometimes necessary to make sacrifices. Such was the case of the tragic last flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986. The men and women who committed their lives to the advancement of space technology will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of everyone in America, in our world. It is hard for us to understand why such a tragedy occured. yet because of it, we have become more aware of our Space Program and its costs. No longer will we take for granted the hard, meticulous work and training the various engineers and astronauts invest to the fulfillment of many people ' s dreams. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the Challenger Crew. Always a part of us, their memory as well as their hopes and dreams, will live on. Someday we shall witness a new world shown to us, in part, by the dedicated efforts and sacrifices of these men and women. 240
