IN MEMORY OF OUR. DEPARTED CLASSMATES LT. RAYMOND MAYNARD USNAF LT. EDWARD MANCHESTER USAAF WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF OUR COUNTRY DURING WORLD WAR II CLASS OF 1910 , .H.S In Memory of: Over the years, the scholastic and athletic accomplishments of the students have not been chronicled in Attleboro. Trophies, medals, awards and honors have been lost, buried, or relegated to attics or basements. School buildings have been closed and plaques, citations and trophies have been destroyed, stolen or disbursed throughout the community. The Attleboro Archive ' s program has completely reversed the situation described above. The Archives hove proposed to restore student spirit and public confidence in the Attleboro public schools through recognition of the achievements of post and former classes. With the establishment of the Archives: community and business people, as well as faculty and students, have all cooperated to establish the Archives by arranging for the construction and placement of display cases throughout the Attleboro High School. The community has come to recognize the importance of the Archives ' work. They hove formally and publically identified and recognized the heritage of the Attleboro School System and community. They hove also restored public confidence and encouraged student spirit concerning the Attleboro High School. Football Field Lighting Plaque Mr. Harold Berberian. Harold Berberian is the spirit behind the Attleboro High School Archives Center. Without the energy, drive, and persistence of Mr. Berberian, important memorabilia and recognition of significant events would not have been captured for future reference. Since 1959, Mr. Berberian has worked for his dream. His dream was to design and implement an Archive ' s Center Program that would sustain student spirit and confidence in the Attleboro Public Schools. This would be done by the highlighting of the achievements of students of the Attleboro High School. Through Mr. Berberian ' s efforts, we now have an Archive ' s Center which chronicles the academic and athletic achievements of students of the past graduating classes of the Attleboro High School. It is a deserved honor that we, the students, set aside a page in our yearbook to honor Mr. Berberian ' s work and persistence. Many people ask, What can one person do? . They should ask this question of Mr. Berberian. 3. Tiffany Plaque A.H.S Archives Plaque Our Senior Memories Dreamers dream, doers do ' The Attle- boro High Senior Class of 1985 members are doers ' From the intimidated freshmen we were four years ago, the Class of 85 has matured into perhaps the most ad- mired class to pass through Attleboro High School, definitely the most accomplished! In both our sophomore and senior years we showed our superior enthusiasm and creativity in winning both the Float and Spirit Week competitions The senior girls can be compared to no others, winning the Powderpuff Football Gomes as juniors and seniors It was amaz- ing to see how they could be super ath- letes on the football field and yet a week later be such beauties at the PromI To top that accomplishment off, the football team soared to a 8-1-1 season. The excit- ing Thanksgiving Day win brought HILDA home and tremendous pride in our foot- ball team back after a six year absence Looking bock over our four year social calendar, one cannot help but remember our Freshman Social and our Sophomore Gathering How we have all changed from then to now! Our Junior Prom on April 14, 1984, at the Holiday Inn in Providence, was a memorable evening and indeed quite alarming It was so difficult to choose a queen and her court among all the fine choices in our class. Our Senior Prom on November 16, 1984 was held at the Sheraton Inn in Mansfield That Friday night was filled with such special moments for each of us that will be remembered for years to come The Class of 1985 has many faces the scholar, the athlete, the tradesman, the artist, and also the humanitarian. In De- cember our school adopted two families who because of our treasury ' s donations of toys and food hod a very Merry Christmas. As our Senior year comes to an end, I feel honored to have represented the Class of 1985 as President, I thank all who have devoted their time and effort in sup- port of our class I am proud of every indi- vidual ' s achievements which hove combined to make our class a success As our union separates, I wish you all the drive to achieve, the means to be successful, and the peace of mind to be truly happy In the years to come, may we meet to shore great experiences and renew the binding friendships that made us the great united Class of 1985 OFFICERS (L-R): Cathy Smith (secretary), Lori Whitehead (treasurer), Mrs, Cordell (advisor), Jason Cupp (president), Mr, Pond (advisor), Stephanie Antosca (fifth officer), Kelly McConn (vice-president). JASON CUPP, Senior Class President, REPRESENTATIVES-Row 1 (L-R): Anne Boyle, Nancy Carty, Melanie Culgin. Mark Chicione, Sta- cey Henriques, Mark Nadow. Our Senior IVIemories Our Senior Memories On Friday, April 12, the thirty-eightli year of Student participation in Student Government Day began. Students from across Massachusetts get to ploy the role of an elected or appointed official to run the State Government for a day . The students are required to attend workshops before the student Government Day and the day itself. The State Student Government Day assignments were determined at o workshop by random drawing. The delegate submits proposals for legislation to be researched and debated on Student Government Day. This process teaches the students how the governmental process is run, and how debates ore held. t 4 FOOTBALL 1984 Our congratulations are offered to the 1984 football team for their outstanding season with a record of 8-1-1 They tied our city rival Bishop Feehan while losing to last year ' s state champions, Dartmouth. Coach Hanewich led the team to their first Thanksgiving Game victory in six years. He sparked a great new enthusiasm in the school as seen by the nine thousand fans who came to watch the game on November 22. The support of the student body was demonstrated all year by cheers, along with an occasional attempt at The Wove led by Brian Legg. When things were not looking good, Hanewich ' s famous Hold that Line cheer could be heard by students and fans. The team has always worked hard, but this year we are proud to say that it payed off and put Attleboro bock on top! 1 Every year thousands of accidents occur as a result of drunk driving. In order to prevent some of these tragedies, on organization was formed. S.A.D.D. makes people stop and think before they do something avoidable such as driving under the influence. The organization is not against drinking alcoholic beverages, but against driving a vehicle after drinking. m fi Earlier this year, S.A.D.D. presented a very special guest at an assembly. Lin Dawson from the New England Patriots spoke to students about drunk driving. He was presented a S.A.D.D. T-shirt with the quote Friends don ' t let friends drive drunk. He hoped to get the student body concerned with their friends so that if at any time someone needed a ride home because he had been drinking, a friend would get him one. Dawson was well received at the assembly and had a tremendous influence on the program. S.A.D.D. members are enthusiastic about the upcoming projects and hope to see more students participating and joining in Ihe fight to stop drunk driving. Recently, on Saturday, November 10th, the Impulse Dance Company visited and performed at the Attleboro High School. This is a group of dancers centered in Boston, male and female, combining the techniques of jazz, ballet, and modern dance. They use these styles to create dance acts of comedy, romance, and tradgedy. The acts interchange between reality and fantasy, which adds to the excitement of the program. Ttiey wear both funny and serksus costumes which are made professionally. This group, who was sponsored by the Attleboro Summer Fest, hetei workshops for the benefit of two random groups of students selected by Mr. Victor Genest. They explained how the acts are set up and the technical and physical work behind the whole show. They also had the students participate in a few modern dance steps. The students really enjoyed both the workshops and the performance. Our Senior iVIemories Darlene Ana Acevedo 17 Park Ave Work Study 3. 4. However, the key to much of the teams success comes from the underclassmen who performed well at the beginning of the season when they were needed the most because of injuries to many point scorers. There is a great possibility of some individuals qualifying for the states. The team looks strong as there is a lot of depth and talent in the underclassmen. Outstanding gymnasts include Korey Goodrich, Kerry Levesque, Tara Dolan, and Chris Pierce. Co- captain Chris Pierce said, The beginning of the season brought about a lot of injuries in the veterans. The underclassmen really stood out. The pressure was really on this season, as Coach Martin had to coach both boy ' s and girl ' s teams, but he did a tremendous job. The season looks positive for the girl ' s gymnastics team. Captains (I to r) Christine Pierce, Kerry Levesque. Christine, at ease We need that 100% effort! ' That ' s a 4 inch beam! S.A,D,V rOWIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS I am very glad to be part of the A.H.S. exchange-student program. This year is full of experiences, that I could never forget. It is fascinating to get to know a different country, their customs, their way of life and at the same time let them know about my country It ' s difficult to describe the beautiful things that you can live day by day. It ' s an experience that helped me grow in concept and be more objective. One of the most important things is the joy of meeting people, everybody is very friendly and always willing to help me when I need it. Thank you for making this year a wonderful one for me, you have been a very good host country. You will be a part of me forever, Martha C. Marin My experience in the United States has been very good although at times it has been very difficult because I do miss my friends, my family and of course my country. All the people I have met have been wonderful, they have helped me to cope with some of the problems that every exchange student encounters. As an exchange student I ' m here to learn the language and culture of the people of the U.S. and to experience a new society and of course develop friendships which will make be a better person. As to A.H.S., I consider it to be a very good school. I have made many new friends. I will be graduating in June. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me through this experience. Vitoria C. I feel as though I have; from Broadway to Thanksgiving football. You ' ve all mode this possible and extremely enjoyable, and thanks to my great host family, the Rainvilles, I feel as though I never left home. The thing you ' ve all made impossible is to say good-bye! Thanks so much. Missing you, Malin Fredericksson I was really happy when I heard that I would be able to come to the United Stated of America and study at Attleboro High School. My immediate thoughts were that I would be getting an education in the best country in the world. I am also fortunate to live with a wonderful aunt and uncle who constantly give me a feeling of assurance, I believe this is important in many ways, especially in learning a brand new language-English, I would like to broaden my interests and expand my learning experience in this country. CHARLES MASTERSON Carpets • Draperies • Slipcovers A final note from the editors . . . to tie together all of the memories we hove shared during the four best years of our lives, especially the fun and excitement of our senior year. We hope we have served you well by giving you a rememberonce of the good times which A.H.S. has given you. This book would not hove been possible without the invaluable help of our advisor, Mr. Donald Frederick. His patience and hard work were greatly appreciated. He has been not only a good advisor, but also a great friend. In addition, much credit is due to our Josfen ' s Yearbook representative, Mr. Daniel Smith. His knowledge and creativity inspired us to create a unique yearbook. Much appreciation is also given to our photographer, Mr. Gary Melino of T.D. Brown Studios. Due to his flexibility and imagination, we were able to present our class at its best. We would like to also thank Kerstin Pilblad for her out-standing artwork on the cover of the book, as well as throughout every section. Her creativity is truly extra-ordinary. Also, much gratitude is due to the entire faculty for their patience and flexibility during our inconvenient production schedule. To the Class of 1985: We hope that your experiences at Attleboro High School have developed you to your full potential. May you all strive to achieve the goals which you hove set for yourselves, and reap all the rewards which you deserve. In the future, you can look bock at your years at A.H.S. as that which has built you up to be the unique, special people that you are. This book holds a lot of memories for us, we hope it does the same for you. Kelly, Michelle and Judy Editors, 1985 Tattletale
