The art department at Attleboro High School is located in a beautiful Visual Arts Center just off the Student Entry area. There are several art studies, each focusing upon a studio, a fabric art area, and an arena- styled studio where drawing and painting are emphasized. There is also a special studio for the Advanced Placement Studio Art students who are involved in intensive creative art studies comparable to those of a first -year college art student. The visual arts program is designed for the student who enjoys working with art materials, who enjoys studying things through eyes and hands as well as through reading or calculating, and who wishes to explore personal and original ways of expressing ideas and feelings about things thought painting, designing, constructing, or shaping in clay or fabric. An attitude of openness to original ideas and a willingness to try different ways of presenting a thought or an observation are the most important talents of Attleboro art students. All students have the opportunity of exhibiting their art accomplishments in the annual Arts Night show and some students exhibit their work in special, regional exhibitions such as the Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards. Advanced students often apply to prestigious art schools and colleges. Many earn art scholarships because college art faculties find that Attleboro High School art students show art work of exceptional quality and diversity.
