We don ' t know why That ' s the way we came. And every heart Beats a little differently. Each soul is free To find its way Like a river that winds its way to the sea. There are many roads to go And they go by many names. They don ' t all go the same way, But we ' ll get there just the same. And I have a feeling That we ' ll meet someday When the roads come together . . . . . . Along the way. As a result of our four years at Attleboro High School, the Class of 1984 was brought together to form a whole. It was during these times that we formed bonds with friends, teachers, and each other that will never be forgotten. It was also a time when we became aware of our abilities and uniqueness which set us apart from everyone else. As the end of our high school years quickly approaches, we will be forced to utilize the talents that we learned and developed in order to get on in life. There are many directions to go from here. Some may choose to continue their studies in college, some may serve our country, and yet some of us may decid e to go right into a job. Whatever the case, the Class of 1984 will disperse. This, however, is not quite the end. Even though we may be alone, we will not be forced to plunge right into life. As members of the Class of 1984, we share a common experience which we will be able to bring into the world with us, no matter where our roads lead. everyone was t know And every heart Beats a little differently. We The Class of 1984 are proud to recognize one of the finest persons and advisors AHS has ever provided-Mrs. Bonneville. You should be commended for the job you ' ve done, and that is why we would like to dedicate our 1984 Tattletale yearbook to you. Consider this dedication from both our class and other classes you ' ve helped in the past. We would like to thank you for your unending support of our class, especially when things seemed really bad, for it was you who always said Don ' t worry - things will work out and by gum - they did! Your advise, thoughts and optimistic ideas were always forthcoming and the class of 1984 is all the better for it. We have been one of the most spirited classes to have passed through the doors of AHS and your enthusiasm has kept that spirit a lasting one! You could never be thanked enough for all you ' ve done - but we ' d like to THANK-YOU Mrs. Bonneville both as an advisor and a dear friend. We think of things we could have shared. But God gives us a sweet consolation And lifts us, the despaired. In our grief we ask, Why . . 7 But there is no answer. Only what he brought uS; A lasting friendship that will never die. He will always be treasured in our hearts. By: Kathy Tavares and Bonnie Smith (Classmates) ED DOBEK 1965-1984 Ed Dobek was a member of the class of 1984. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have known him became familiar with his warm personality. He always had a pleasant smile. Despite his disabling illness, he was never discouraged. Ed enjoyed the widespread support of the Attleboro community and was the focus of various activities in his behalf. Although he has not been able to share in many of our high school activities, he remains in our thoughts as a member of the class of 1984. AMS. and the ARTS POWDERPUFF The Junior and Senior girls battled it out on the grid- iron on November 13. 1983. The weeks of practice seemed to pay off as the Juniors beat the Seniors 12-6. Victory was not easily gained, however; the Seniors really put up a fight! PUFF an. SUPERLATIVES Right: Did most for A.H.S.: Chris Ann Lind and Barry Depot. Advisor: Mrs. Bonneville Advisor: Mr. Burbank Twelve years of schooling have come and gone. To some it was a fast twelve years and to some of us it was slow, but our four years at A.H.S. are now in all of our memories and our memories alone. V e partied together at the Junior and Senior proms and at our Junior Powderpuff game when we tied the Seniors. We showed them! Remember our incredible fundraisers? Both were well over $5,000, and that is what it was all about. When the class of ' 84 needed funds, or anything for that matter, we all banded together. Except for the upset in Powderpuff as Seniors, we had an extremely productive and successful final year. Everyone had an enjoyable night at the Senior Prom, which was held at the Sheraton Mansfield on November 18. 1983. Soon after the prom, planning of the Donkey Basketball game. Senior Class Night. Senior Reception, and the Senior Breakfast began. Our early planning paid off for the best Senior class activities ever. As the years have come and gone, so has the class of 1984. But we leave not on a sad note because we seemed to set the standards for having good times and school spirit! We ' ve done many things well and it all can be attributed to each and everyone of you who have made up the class of 1984. Always be proud of your school, your class, and yourselves because the joy you ' ve given over the past twelve years has been immeasureable. We had some rough times in the beginning of the year when our assemblies were cancelled but we stuck it out and that determination to prevail will show through all of us in the years to come. The good times help, and for sure we had a heck of a lot of good times during our four year stay at A.H.S. I want to wish you all the best of luck especially John. Chris Ann, Marcia. Patti, the Senior representatives, Mr. Burbank and Mrs. Bonneville our advisors, and all those who made our four years at A.H.S rememberable ones. From the bottom of my heart I say thiS: I love you all, may god bless you and point you to the road of unending happiness. I wish you all the best of luck in the future and in all that you do. 122 Sincerely yours, Barry Depot Senior class president (left to right) representatives - Deborah Seferiadis. Mary Carty. Roger Ducharme. Katie Curran. Joanie Medeiros. Paul Goetz, Tammy Lee. On May 29. 1981, our Freshman class started a new tradition at Attleboro High School. It was the Freshman Social and the school had never had one previously. The Social was held in the student forum area of the school and the students were also able to walk outside into the courtyard. The Culinary Arts Department catered this event with soft drinks and pastries. Bopping Bob was the DJ for the Social and our theme song was The Best of Times by Styx. The First Annual Freshman Social was a smashing success! The Sophomore Gathering, a more formal event than the Freshman Social, was held at the Heather Hill Country Club on April 16, 1982. It was a successful semi-formal dinner dance well-organized by the class officers. A delicious chicken dinner was served and then everyone danced to the great music of Sight . At 10:30, everyone danced to the last song of the night, our theme song, Open Arms . It was an exciting night which had everyone looking forward to the Junior Prom. One of the highlights of our junior year was the Junior Prom. It was held on the top floor of the B lit more Plaza in Providence on April 29. 1983. The night started out with a delicious meal and a cake cutting by the officers. It continued with a great night of dancing with music provided by Secret Agents . They played many popular songs including our prom theme We ' ve Got Tonite . During the night, the students also voted Coreen Healy as prom queen with Colleen Mellon, Anjali Mallik, Heidi Young, Patti Lambert, and Kelly Searle in the queen ' s court. Overall, the Junior Prom was a wonderful, fun-filled night of dance, friends, and many wonderful memories. ?, November 18. 1983 was the date of the biggest and most awaited event of the senior year, the Senior Proml The Sheraton Inn in Mansfield seated 200 couples in their most ornate room. At 1:50. the Jerry Seeko Band started playing dinner music as the first course of a meal consisting of a fruit medly. garden salad. Chicken Cordon Bleu, and ice-cream pie with strawberries was served. The gown and tux clad couples then hit the dance floor with a variety of pop songs including the prom theme. Faithfully. Students voted Patti Lambert as queen with Anu Viitala, Anachu Zabalbeascoa. Tammy Chamberlain, Joanie Medieros. Sue Chartier, and Colleen Mellon in her court. Pictures taken by a T.D. Brown Studios photographer provided many memories of this fun-filled night. Queen ' s Court (Left to Right) - Anactiu Zabalbeascoa, Ken Wild. Anu Viitala, Mike Petit. Leigh Estrella (president) With only one year remaining, some of us were already planning ahead-, but we will always look back on this year as one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of our lives. We started off our Junior year hoping to continue our reputation as The Most Spirited Class . In early October, practice for the annual Powderpuff game began and our spirit grew to a high! As we took to the field on November 13, 1983, we gave it our all and the Seniors saw defeat, with a score of 12-6. A special thanks is given to our cheerleaders who cheered us on to VICTORY. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we spent many of our nights completing our float. Despite a fine effort turned in by the AHS Football Team, we were unable to BOWL ' EM OVER. With most of our activities behind us, we started organizing what was to be a most memorable night, our Junior Prom, held on April 14, 1984, at the Holiday Inn in Providence, R.I. At this time, I would like to thank my fellow officers and representatives for a fun and exciting year. I would also like to wish every member of the Class of 85 good luck in whatever course you choose to follow in the years to come. Our enthusiasm got a little beyond planning, causing our October carwash to be more of a learning experience than a fundraiser. The setback doubled our drive and trippled our determination. Our main fundraiser in November turned out to be quite successful. Meanwhile, months of hard work and preparation paid off on November 24th, when we presented our float. As our spinning football filled the sky with balloons, one of the judges summed it up best when he said, Gee. that is awesome. Later we secured a place for our Junior Prom. Then it was on to the Sophmore Gathering on April 18th at Highland Country Club. I would like to thank all those people who helped make this a good year. Most of all I would like to thank John. He really came through when we needed him. It has been both an honor and a pleasure. Good Luck next year. Bill Semple Soph. Class Pres. First I thought that a year would be a long time and I would miss my parents and friends, but the time passed really quickly and now June is so near and it ' s time to go back to Finland. I want to thank all my friends here and my host family. You have been so kind to me. Thank you also to Attleboro High School for taking me in here. I have had a wonderful yearl Maybe some day I ' ll be able to come back and see you all again Yours, Ann Ropponen My name is Jean Robert Nordenstam, I am 17 years old, and I am an exchange student from Norway. I am glad that I have been attending AHS as a senior this year. I have always wanted to come to the U.S.A., now I have been here, and it has been an exciting year. I have learned about the differences between the U.S.A. and Norway, how it is to be an exchange student, and how it is to be away from all my friends and family for a whole year. There have been times I thought that I would go crazy and I wanted to go back to Norway. If it weren ' t for all the new friends I have made here I could not have made it. So thanks everybody: teachers, students, and especially my great host family. It has been really nice to meet you all and I thank you for an exciting year. There is only one thing left to say and that is Good bye AHSI Love, Jean I was very lucky to get an opportunity to live with an American family and to attend AHS. At first, when I came here, I was a little bit afraid and yet excited because everything was so new and different from Finland. But after a while, when I learned more about your country and culture, things turned out to be just great. I also got alot of new friends, which made my stay here a great experience. I want to thank you all at Attleboro High School for being so kind to me and always ready to help. I ' ll never forget this yearl Missing you, Anu Viitala Hil This is Anachu. I ' m so happy to be here. When I first came here I thought it was going to be something great, but I didn ' t know it was going to be so easy to make friends. You ' re all so nice. I am really enjoying it here and although June is still quite far away, it really hurts when I have to think of leaving. But, I don ' t worry about that. I ' ll be here at least every five years- definitely! Just take care and always be like this. Thanks alot for everything and remember always that SPAIN LOVES YOU ALLlll Love love love, Anachu Zabalbeascoa Before I came to this school I was worried about what it would be like. I asked myself questions like: Will the people at school accept me?. Will I find new friends?, and Will I have many problems with my classes? Now I know that I had no reasons to be worried. All the people at school are so nicell Many kids offered me their help and without the help of the teachers, I would never have been able to master my classes! I want to thank you all for being so nice to me! A special thanks goes to Mrs. Nerney, Mr. Zani, Mrs. Cuocco, and all the other nice people in the offices. I want to thank you for the great time I had at AHS! Christiane Eb (West Germany) One year in the United States is a fantastic experience for me. I have always wanted to stay in another country, and I ' m glad that the U.S.A. was my choice. People here in Attleboro have been very nice and friendly. I miss my native country of course, but home sickness disappeared after a few weeks, thanks to my host family, who is excellent, and all the friendly people I have met here in Attleboro. I hope to see more of your great country during the time I have left here in the United States. There ' s only one day I don ' t look forward to, the day I have to leave. It will be nice to go home to Norway of course, but I will miss the United States of America. Thank you very much, all of you! The season ' s record fails to reflect the outstanding Individual play of the girls, particularly the superior defensive play of Joanne Barrett in net and the scoring o f Pam Harris. Seniors Deb Seferiadis. Sue Dumouchel and Chris Poirier, led by co-captain Pam Harris on offense, ran the opposition all over the field. Seniors on defense led by co captain Coreen Healey ' s skilled stick work. Joanne Barrett in goal, the awesome drives of Sue Pascal and Katie Curran. and the overall great play of Hannah Volterra. made for one of the best defensive units in the league. Our defensive efforts led us through most of our games. The best of these being our match against our rival Bishop Feehan. GIRL ' S SWIM TEAM-LENGTHS AHEAD The 1983 Girls Varsity Swim Team finished its season with a 4-4 record. With the unexpected loss of 4 members due to injury, transfers or members that had graduated, the team slowly worked on its rebuilding with new recruits. Throughout the season, consistent high point performances were received from many of the members. The developmental meet was held at the close of the season. Attleboro finished first out of a strong field of competition. The team came out of the meet with an abundance of personal best times . As the season came to a close, we remembered such group activities as freshman initiation, bake sales and the closing banquet. As we remember the smoothness of the meets due to the new computerized touchpad and scoreboard system, we wish captains Nicole and Cheryl and seniors Lisa. Terry. VOLLEYBALL DIGS THEIR WAY TO VICTORY The I9S3 volleyball team had a winning season with a record of 9-5. Unfortunately, the team missed going to the state tournament by one game. There were four seniors on the team and many talented juniors and sophomores, who will be coming up next year for the Varsity team. Thanks to Coach Riley, who is only in his third season with the team, we obtained a winning season. Co-captain Marcia GuTino was superior with her serving to start off every game and was great on the court. The other co-captain, Sandie Kile, did a great job with her offensive threat spiking. There were two other seniors playing for their second year-. Sue Kile and Lisa Grylls. Sue, who added a lot of spirit and gave it her best on the court, and Lisa who played great in every position. Next year ' s Varsity team will have the veterans Brenda Ralston. Chris McAndrews. and Diane French, being headed by co-captains Bonnie Milburn and Melissa Pineo. SPIRIT I The Football season started off well this year because of the first place trophy the squad earned for being Grand Champions. U e attended ice camp in August at SMU. This built the foundation for a good year. The season was now just around the corner and we got started for the exciting year ahead of us. There were fifteen cheerleaders on the squad, which worked out very well The Attleboro vs. Freehan game boosted all of our spirits as the football team went on to an outstanding victory. Even though we were a little disappointed about the outcome of the Attleboro vs. North game, the season was still full of great memories for all of us. We would like to thank Susan Ouellette for her tremendous support and coaching for the past four years. With out her, many of our goals would never have been reached. We all wish her the best of luck in her future. (Left to Right) Row l-Patty Gaudreau. The basketball cheerleading season of 83-84 was very enjoyable. The numerous new girls proved to be a great asset to the squad. We have two seniors leaving us, Shauna Burns and Joanie Medeiros. We wish them the best of luck. As for the girls who are returning next year, they are very excited. Although the record of the basket- ball team showed no where near the amount of work they put into this season, we feel they did a great job. We wish them the best of luck for next year ' s season. [ BOY ' S BASKETBALL PUTS THEIR BEST SHOT FORWARD 1 Although I he AH baskcthjll lt iin didn ' t receive many victories in the 1983-84 season, the year wasn ' t one to throw away. Prominent sophomores Such as Mike McCutcheon and Dan O ' Connell will lead this team to a bright future. With Greg Payette, Scott Sweet, and Brian Legg returning next year, the Bombers will be a threat outside the key as well as inside. We ' d like to thank all who were involved with AHS basketball this year, especially Coach Dinardo. He is a true basketball devotee and can coac h the game as well as any coach in Division I. I would like to wish the AHS hoops ters the best of luck in the future. We ' ve had many great times this season, but what made them so great was the fact that nobody gave up. To all who are returning next year, keep up the good work II Captain: Chris Perron Coach: Mr. Doug Dinardo GIRL ' S BASKETBALL SHOOTS THEIR WAY TO VICTORY The girls 1983 84 Basketball team is having a great season. Starting off the I season by thinning the Christmas Holiday Tournament has given the team alot of confidence. The team is at loss without height but does have the ability to box out for rebounds, due to ) the work of Sue Craw, Michelle Poulin, and Diane french. To take advantage of getting rebounds and quickness, there is just as good attack offensively with the shooting of co-captains Lori Gray and Sandie Kile, and the ball handling of Peg Leahy and Chris McAndrews. The team is not complete until you recognize the coaching of William Riley. He has worked with the team since their freshman year and knows how to put the skills together and be successful. Thanks to the rest of the team, who contributed greatly to our winning season. The 1983-84 team has enjoyed every minute of their winning season. Captains. Lori Gray, Sandie Kile Coach: M. You can pick out the privately instructed girls and see the experience they had. The girls without the experience really stood out because of their enthusiasm to learn and spirit for the entire team. The talent of the girls was not the only factor involved in producing a winning season; Coach Sulham was the best girls gymastics Coach around. He worked the team and it showed! In 1983. the team qualified for the state meet for the first time and the team has a chance of going again. The combination of Coach Sulham ' s intelligent methods and the girls ' talent gave the team its winning season. [ BOY ' S GYMNASTICS TUMBLES AHEAD Over the years the Attleboro High School Gymnastics team has been a very strong organization. Attleboro gymnasts have been at the forefront in area competition for some time. The last several years, however, Attleboro has been lacking experienced gymnasts and has entered a rebuilding phase. Best wishes go to Paul Goetz, who excelled on the parallel bars, to Gary Roderick who showed outstanding work on the parallel bars and led the team on the pommel horse, and to John Cote who ' s continued efforts on the pommel horse, high bar, and rings greatly helped this year ' s team. Among the juniors on the team this year. Steve Praia and Chris Carrigan have improved in their individual events, also Daryl Cavaca received his highest score in diving in the 1983-84 season. No one said that it is going to be easy. There will be times when the road will be smooth, but there will also be times when the road will be twisting and bumpy. It is during these latter moments that we will long for the security of our high school years. We all share the common experience of being part of the class of 1984, and this yearbook was designed to remind us of this. Our purpose was to capture every facet of our high school life that may help sustain us through those times when not everything is going quite right. We hope you will use your specialized talents and the knowledge you have gained from your experiences at Attleboro High School to lead you in the right direction in life. We wish you all the best until the day . . . When our roads come together once again. Wendy and Kristen Editors. 1984 Tattletale v232 This yearbook would not have been possU without the hard work and devotion of m.i people including our sponsors and, of couit our dedicated staff, who spent long ho ' creating and selling this yearbook.
