B RICH AM, Supervisorof Visual Aids CYNTHIA NELISSON JANICE POIRIER Class of 1981 By June of 1979 , we were beginning to consider ourselves as juniors and in September of 1979, this thought became reality. No sooner had we entered A.H.S. for our third year than we were beginning to feel the pressures of preparing for college from the Guidance department and those of the upcoming PSAT ' s. which were held on November 3rd. But whether or not college was something to be thinking about, the Junior Class had an image to create: No longer would we be second to the class of 1980. but we would be I. We started our season by selling pennants through the football season, trying to promote some spirit at the football games. Later on we once again sponsored a successful dance, the second of the year, featuring the band Matrix held on October 13th. Now was our chance to prove ourselves at the Junior-Senior Powder Puff game, held on October 28th. The Seniors came into the game expecting an easy romp but the Juniors weren ' t about to let them win. The game ended in a 6-6 tie with excellent playing by both teams. It was now the time of the year for the annual homecoming game between A.H.S. and N. A.H.S. and we were proud to have our class represented by Heidi Hogarth the 1979 class queen. Along with the game was the annual float contest and although our float may not have been appealing to the judges, it was by far the most original, and the class spirit was tremendous. Things continued quietly until December arrived with the contagious spirit of Christmas, and to create an even better feeling we launched a painting project in one of the hallways (for the Deck the Halls contest). By this time our account was getting low and that couldn ' t have been a better time, for during the weeks of January 2 1 st and 28th we sponsored a candy sale in an effort to increase the account. Our spirited class could be counted on to make the sale a great success. With the treasury replenished we began plans for more activities. On March 22nd we sponsored a dance, along with the senior, sophomore, and freshman classes, in order to have another great school wide social event. As May began to creep up on us, we started some serious work to make the Junior Prom, on May 9th, a memorable occasion. With all this completed, June arrived and now, we were beginning to consider ourselves Seniors, and we were thinking about our last and final year with its many objectives, one being the continued striving to maintain our 1 image. With a year of experience behind, the class was eager to pick up where its Freshman year ended. Beginning our float meetings early in October, we set out to prove that our float would be the best. On Thanksgiving Day, the class of ' 82 gained second place in the float competition. We completed our magazine drive in late November, with the final tally reaching close to 2700 dollars. TTie Sophomore class sponsored a dance on December 9, 1979, receiving a net profit of over 400 dollars. Class rings were ordered in February and distributed in early April. Holding the Sophomore Gathering at Highland Country Club, the Sophomore class of 1982 became the first class to have their gathering outside of the High School compound. Our Sophomore year at Attleboro High School has been one of learning and achieving. We will bring to our Junior class the knowledge and recognition we have gained in hopes to improve ourselves in the coming year. Pam Miles Sophomore Class President. It only took a few weeks to become familiar with our surroundings and with the surroundings came new acquaintances which we will always cherish. October quickly approached and class officers were elected. We realized it was now that we had to get our class together and work as one if we wanted to be successful in our first year. The Freshman class held its first fund-raising activity showing an overwhelming amount of participation. No one can predict what our next three years will hold, because for the class of 1983 there is no limit. Cindy Welch Freshman Class President. Javne Frizzell. David Brousseau Class Officers Mike Siddall — Vice President, Linda Flanagan — Secretary, Paula Trearchis — Treasurer, Rick Shea — President Advisors Mr Stack The Class of 1980 was lucky to have had many outstanding advisors. In our Freshman year Mr. Stack was to be our advisor, while he and Mr. Pinto worked together in our Sophomore year. As Juniors and Seniors we were fortunate enough to have had Mr. Stack, Mr. Faulkner, and Miss Smith. We are extremely grateful to Mr. Stack for remaming with us from Freshman year to Senior year. Willingly and freely giving of their time, these people offered us their guidance and friendship. Since the job of class advisor is strictly voluntary, it calls for an enormous amount of dedication. This devotion, demonstrated through the past four years, is worth more than words can say. We hope the memories we leave behind are as warm as those we take with us. Thank you. Mr. Faulkner 139 Miss Smith Freshman Year As we entered our Freshman year, we all were quite timid, yet very anxious to show the school that we had spirit. We began to show our enthusiasm with the large turnout of candidates who ran for Student Government offices. We elected Jack Gorman. Treasurer; Stacey Hill, Secretary; Nancy DeOliveira and Liz Wilson Vice-Presidents, and myself as President. Our Representatives to the Student Council were Paul Grady, Lisa Hunnicutt, Dede Vaughn, Sue Gaudreau, David Williams. These people helped with class work as well as with the council. Our activities included making a float for the Thanksgiving Day float contest. We sponsored a Disco Dance which was very successful, and we also had a car wash in the spring which was a lot of fun. And of course our fund raiser for the year; The Super Pen Sale. It wasn ' t tremendously profitable but we learned a lot from it. These activities brought about many new friendships, and demonstrated our ability to work together for the school. Jeanne M. Cuddy Freshman Class President Sophomore Year Our Sophomore year, in my mind, will always be remembered as one of our best years at AHS. Elected to represent us in Student Government were Dave Williams, Terry Moore, Linda Hanley. Jeanne Cuddy. Dede Vaughan and Sue Gaudreau. Our Vice-President was Lisa Tiberi; our Secretary was Linda Flanagan and our Treasurer was Tina Flanagan. As we became involved in all the activities of the school, we had no idea how much work they would be. We put our best effort forward though, and we won the Thanksgiving Day float competition and also the Deck the Halls contest that year. We held a successful fund raiser in December that consisted of selling magazines and records. This boosted our treasury to new heights. We ordered our rings in January and received them in May. In April, we began a new tradition for the spring season by sponsoring Spring Fever Week. We delivered carnations to people during homeroom, held two Button Days, and at the end of the week, we held a car wash at Fernandes. We held our Sophomore Gathering on a beautiful night. May 13, in the courtyard of AHS. Our class was only beginning to show its spirit, however, and we looked forward to Junior year and being upperclassmen. Jackie Clark Sophomore Class President 140 Junior Year With two years of experience to draw from, we entered our memorable Junior Year. Junior Year is often referred to as the most enjoyable year of high school, because no one is overly burdened with his plans for the future. Newly elected officers Dede Vaughan (Vice President), Paula Trearchis (Treasurer), Linda Flanagan (Secretary), and myself, had prepared ourselves for what proved to be a fun filled and exciting year. Our activities during the first half of the year included a dance, the Powder Puff Football Game against the Seniors, the Thanksgiving Day Float Competition, and the Deck the Halls Contest. Our dance was a tremendous success and provided pre- game entertainment for the Powder Puff Game, which followed the next day. We regret to say that we were beaten, but give due credit to our opponents. The Thanksgiving Day Float Competition provided us with an opportunity to demonstrate our ingenuity and class spirit. As in the previous year we were victorious, producing our second winning float in a row. As Christmas approached, the Deck the Halls Contest was on and once again we demonstrated the unity which makes our class great, by winning this contest. Throughout the first months of the new year we held our fundraiser, which enabled us to reduce the price of prom tickets significantly. The big night was May 1 1, 1979 — The Junior Prom. It was held at the Blue Hill Country Club, Canton, Massachusetts. The theme for the event was The Long and Winding Road, and Julie Ferragi was elected as queen. As the close of the year drew near, most of our time was spent looking forward to summer vacation and our ever important Senior Year. Our activities throughout the Junior Year were examples of tremendous spirit and unity which was carried on into our Senior Year. Junior Class President Rick Shea Senior Year Suddenly Senior Year was here and all of the fun and work which come with it. Officers Mike Siddall (Vice President), Paula Trearchis (Treasurer), Linda Flanagan (Secretary), and myself had been hard at work securing the new Senior Office, planning the first dance and other activities. After our dance, most of our time and effort was devoted to our fund raiser. For the second year in a row our profits set a school record. The money was used to replenish the class treasury and to defray the cost of prom tickets. Following the candy sale, and after a month of practice, the Senior girls took to the field for the annual Powder Puff football game. In the pouring rain, the two teams battled to a 6 to 6 tie. Friday evening, November 16, saw us dancing and dining at the Senior Prom which was held at Demetri ' s Restaurant in Foxboro, featuring We ' ve Got Tonight as our theme. Diane Borden was chosen queen and Linda Hanley, Geraldine Faris, Jenny McCullen and Elaine Mellon made up the queen ' s court. On November 22, 1979, we collected our third Thanksgiving Day float contest victory. In the game the Bombardiers were defeated 20 to 6 by the well deserving Red Rocketeers. December was a bit more tranquil than the past three months. The only activities we engaged in were the Deck the Halls contest and the American Red Cross Blood Drive. The drive replenished 42 pints, a greatly appreciated donation during the holiday season. The remainder of the year included a variety of dances, a Donkey Basketball Game, the Senior Reception, Senior Breakfast, Class Night, and then the climax of our high school years . . . Graduation. The past four years have brought us experience that will last forever. As we move on to apply our experiences I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every class member the best of luck in achieving their goals. May you always treasure the memories of your days here at Attleboro High School. Foreign Exchange Students Andreas Bialluch My name is Andreas Bialluch and I am an exchange student from Cologne, West Germany. My father is an engineer, and my mother is owner of a perfumery in a suburb of Cologne, and my thirteen year old sister is going to high school. The reasons for my coming to the United States are interests in the country, the people, and the culture. One further major point was that I wanted to learn the language — and I ' m still learning — in order to obtain a very good diploma from my school back in Germany, which I will have to attend for two more years. This diploma is very important for me, because I want to be a dentist and it ' s very hard to get into this field. I enjoyed my time in Attleboro High School very much, because I made many good friends, found a great offer of facilities, and had the luck to make the right choice of my subjects with good teachers. One of my major interests is sports and I could take advantage of the many sports offered. I played soccer successfully, improved my swimming skills and enjoyed my time on the tennis team. So, I got very much out of school and have to say that I was very lucky to find such a good and huge school, in which I never had the feeling of being foreign. If I were asked what the differences are between Attleboro High and my school back at home in Germany, I could only say that there are many parallels but we use other grades (from 1 to 6, 1 standing for an A), no lunch and a schedule for the whole week, which varies the school days and makes them a little more interesting. I want to thank God to have found such fantastic parents here, who made it possible for me to see and to experience so many nice things. I have been in Florida visiting Walt Disney World, and enjoying the beach on the Gulf of Mexico. I saw many attractions in New England, ate supper in a German restaurant in New York, took pictures without any permission in Tiffany ' s. visited President Carter in Washington and took sun-baths at Cape Cod. I want to take the opportunity to thank everybody for giving me the chance to get to know the school and especially the American students, who gave me a wonderful time. Finally I want to say that I ' ll always keep this year in mind, will always look back at it and say: This year was a great time of your life with many new people and things, and nobody can ever take it away from you. It is a great experience for everyone and I recommend to everybody who has the chance to go to another country for a longer time to take advantage of the opportunity. Therefore, I want very much to thank again my parents here and especially my parents back in Germany, who gave me away for one year, who supported me enthusiastically and made it possible for me to spend this year in America. I have been asked to write for the yearbook something about myself, the school and what I have been experiencing during this year. To begin a long story: I was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1961 since both of my parents lived there for three years while my father studied at the University of Wisconsin. We did a lot of travelling, but of course, I don ' t remember a thing about that and that ' s one reason why I came back to see the country. We moved back to Sweden where we settled down in the suburb of Uppsala, close to Stockholm. It is a famous university town; the university was established in 1477. Approximately 150.000 people live in the city of Uppsala. My high school is very small compared to A.H.S. It has about 400 students, and it is also much older. Our school systems are also quite different. There are six members in my family in which I am the oldest of four children. I took the opportunity to come to America for many reasons, among them are to learn the English language, to get experience of a new culture, to meet new people and to have a good time, of course! I expected something special before I came to America, and my expectations have been fulfilled through a wonderful family, good school acquaintances and special friends. What I ' ve been experiencing during this year is hard to pin down, but in one word it has been GREAT. I ' ve enjoyed my year immensely and I would ver ' much look forward to coming back again. At last. I want to thank all of you who have made this year such a memorable one. Peter Isaksson 144 Dear Seniors, By the time you receive this copy of your Tattletale, you will be only weeks from graduation and the end of twelve years of formal public education.
