J.GUGEL To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded. Ralph Waldo Emerson BARBARA DIAZ MK Look it up on your assignment sheet! FACULTY 41 42 DEDICATION Dedication We, the class of 1978, are proud to dedicate our yearbook to a man who every- one knows and loves. He has done everything he could to support our class, whether it be helping the girls at powder-puff practice, organizing the Senior Prom, or counselling the football players. He has done a great deal not only for the occupational students he teaches, but also for the academic students with whom he is friends. He has shown us what a teacher can be — someone you can com- municate with, who is willing to listen to your problems and willing to help to solve them, who sacrifices his valuable time and invests it in his students, and, most importantly of all, who always has a great sense of humor. As one senior wrote on his dedication ballot, He is like a father . . . always there when you need him most. We can ' t think of anyone who deserves this honor more than Mr. William Pinto. Juniors As we entered school for the all important Junior year, we were looking forward to one of the best years ever. The first planned fund raising project of the year was a bake sale and car wash. Because of rain, the car wash was cancelled but the bake sale was held. The profits made from the bake sale were used to buy kazoos which were sold dur- ing the Bombardiers ' successful football season. After the kazoos were sold, the Juniors sponsored a dance which featured the band Pegasus. Also held in October was the annual Powder-Puff football game between the Jun- ior and Senior girls. As expected, the Juniors romped and carried on, being the most spirited class. After the football game the next project in store for the Jun- iors was the alt important PSAT ' s, signifying that we were really Juniors. The next fund raising project sponsored by the Junior class was the candy sale which turned out to be a suc- cess. As we enter the new year all eyes are focused on a pro- posed Junior-Senior semi-for- mal, a huge banana split, a movie and the most important event of the year, the Junior Prom, which will be held on April 28 at the King Phillip in Wrent- ham. — Greg Gulino, President UNDERCLASSMEN 115 116 UNDERCLASSMEN OFFICERS: Tina Flanagan, Treasurer; Linda Flanagan, Secretary; Lisa Tiberi, Vice-President; Jackie Clark, President. Sopho- mores With a Brand new year lying ahead of us, and a year ' s experi- ence of high school life behind us, we took advantage of the many opportunities a new year had to offer, with much enthusi- asm and determination. We started out by trying to show our spirit when we partici- pated in the Spirit Link Contest. Although the Seniors gained the trophy and the most money, we still had the most spirit and proved it by going on to win first place in the Thanksgiving Day float competition between the classes. We also captured first place in yet another competition, just before Christmas. The Deck the Halls contest consisted of deco- rating the cafeterias and raising school spirit for the Christmas season. Later on, after the new year, we ' ll be ordering our rings, and hopefully in May, after reaping the benefits of our fund-raising week, we ' ll be holding a Sopho- more Gathering, besides spon- soring a dance. With the determination and drive that the class of 1980 has, I don ' t see how we can help but make our class, and the school, the best yet. — Jackie Clark, Class President UNDERCLASSMEN 117 118 UNDERCLASSMEN OFFICERS: Robin Vice-President. Pascal, President; Renee Duquette, Secretary; Ann Murphy, Treasurer; Danny Sullivan, Freshmen Upon entering the High School we were afraid that we wouldn ' t get used to the change from Middle School, but we soon did. After the elections were held and the class officers and six representatives were chosen we decided to get the class of ' 81 off to a good start. At first the Freshmen showed little interest in class activities. The Deck the Halls contest brought many new helpers. Our fund raising week is in February. We plan to hold activities for Attleboro Ele- mentary Schools, for instance, we are showing movies to them. We hope this will prove profit- able for us and fun for them. — Robin Pascal, President UNDERCLASSMEN 119 II 5? i 14 ' ,Aav|n€_ (c.c) 0 Sever SopKrnc ct. We feel we have been given more than guidance and supervision. We have been given the freedom to choose and judge for ourselves. Our advisors have given us the opportunity to grow and to expand our horizons. We have not been sheltered nor have they dictated to us. They have given us many ideas and allowed us to choose our options by pointing out to us possible prob- lems and by suggesting ways to improve our ideas. We have also found a unique friendship in them. We talk. We confide. They listen. It is a great task to perform. An advisor must give guidance and supervision. Yet ours have found a unique way in which to do so — for they are our friends. We would like to thank Mrs. Martha Corley Mr. James McKearney Miss Patricia Mingace Mrs. Andrea Soucy for all of their help, guidance, and friendship. Q : in o — The Senior Class Officers SENIORS 205 mm RICH out Wc I , ' ' - V-Vn TA-iv 1 SENIORS 207 I FRESHMAN YEAR O H 00 U In 1974 ai out 700 of us walked into Attleboro High Sciiool, which was so large that we all got lost in it the whole first week. It wasn ' t bad enough that we were new, but were also the little freshmen. As scary as it seemed, we soon made ourselves at home, and found that t he upperclassmen weren ' t so bad as we had heard they were. Not knowing exactly what to do with ourselves we decided to start at the beginning by electing our leaders: Greg Conley, president, Lisa Johnson, vice president, Nancy Rainville, secretary, and Kim Sherman, treasurer. We also elected five repre- sentatives: Neal Kane, Frank Moore, Sue Hoyle, Donna LeMaistre, and Jeannie Lee. Our Advisors were assigned to us, and they helped us to get headed in the right direction by helping us to make our own decisions. They were Mr. McKearney, Mrs. Corley, and Miss Mingace. Now that we were settled in the school, we started working on our financial situation, which ended up being pretty good for little freshmen. We had many fundraising activities, one of which was a successful flea market. We worked hard, and were well rewarded at the end. We also had a bake sale. We thought for sure that it was going to be a disaster because someone had taken our spot, but we ended up selling everything that we had baked. It was our teamwork that made us a success financially. One other event that sticks in my mind was the Thanksgiving Day football game, and especially our freshman float. It came out great, due to the many hours we worked on it. We were all proud to ride on the back of it, even though our team was defeated that year. Being a senior now, I can look back and say it was a great year. We did have a lot of fun, mixed with a lot of work. Now that it is over, it is a little sad, because it went by so fast and because it will never be here again. We worked hard, and that is how we made i t . Lisa Johnson mjmm Vice President JP ' SOPHOMORE YEAR | September of 1975 came rolling along as we felt a bit more comfortable as sophomores. We elected to represent our class for student government services Barry Goodinson, Mary Grady, Jeannie Lee, Frank Moore, Peggy Kenton and Neal Kane. Our newly elected officers were Carlene Caruso, president; James England, vice president; Tracey Bellavance, trea- surer and Nancy Alger as our secretary. They met with Miss Mingace, Mr. McKearny and Mrs. Corley our class advisors to plan a year which was to turn out to be exciting! Our fund raising started off with a car wash bake sale at Fernandes Supermarket which turned out to be a money-raiser, (considering it poured that day!). We then sponsored a dance featuring Creo which built our treasury a bit more. We also had a candy sale to top off our fund-raising. Spirit Week proved to be very exciting for us, as we were the class to buy the most spirit links. We were considered a very rowdy class, and we were proud of it. Then came one of the best times as a sophomore: the ordering of our class rings. We were all quite excited for the latter part of our year and eager for the coming of the final two years at A.H.S. Carlene Caruso President I I 208 SENIORS o JUNIOR-SENIOR YEAR Oh no! bur years ago, in 1974, 1978 seemed to be in the distant future. We soon found that it was 1975, 1976, 1977 . here! 1 978. And no wonder it ' s gone by so fast. We ' ve been so busy for the past four years. uring our junior year we worked hard trying to sell what seemed like an endless number of candy bars. It was well worth it, our treasury showed. At about the same time we were involved in a contest between the four classes to see whose home- coming float was the best. Ours was a big blue bomb . . . boy, was it! In October we once again won the spirit links contest ch to the senior disgust). They got their revenge later in November at the first annual Powder Puff football game. The final score was 26-6. (We still won the spirit link contest; that ' s more important, anyway). In December we held a disc jockey dance featuring Kenny Kool. In May, the big finale — Our Junior Prom at the Hearthstone Inn. We chose Mary Tiberi as our prom queen and Beth Gariepy, Sara King, Sue Lepper, Michelle Maynard, and Diane Smith were in the court. Our senior year began with yet another candy sale. This time there was even more to sell. We slowly muddled through all the candy just in time for the second annual Powder Puff rally in the gym. The two classes came to support their own team andr take a look at those beautiful cheerleaders. Two days later we met on the gridiron and lost 7-0. Thisyear for the third consecutive time we won the spirit links contest and received a trophy for our efforts. On November 18th we dined and danced all night under the shaking prisms of two massive chandeliers at the Chateau de Ville. It was the Prom of Proms featuring the beautiful song The Best Is Yet to Come composed by our own Neal Kane and Pete McKearney. We chose Paulette de Oliveria as our prom queen and Jill Cronin, Jeannie Lee, Sue Lepper, Diane Smith and Mary Tiberi were in the court. On November 24, 1 977, Thanksgiving Day, the Attleboro Blue Bombardiers defeated the Red Rocketeers of North Attleboro, 1 4 to 1 3. The perfect highlight of our senior year. In December as we prepared for our last Christmas together we held our first blood drive and donated 56 points of blood to the American Red Cross. In December we also held a contest between the four classes: A Deck the Halls contest. This was the only real sign of Christmas as there was no snow on the ground. It helped to cultivate a little Christmas spirit. At this time the Senior Class gave its own gift to the school: a living Christmas tree. We hope that this tree will grow and serve as a living reminder of the class of ' 78 for years to come. March was a busy month for us. We started the month promenading and do-si-doing at our square dance preceded by Hill- billy Day. The rest of the month took a radical change of pace as we slid through the Greaser Dance. We all enjoyed rocking around the clock at this, the most popular dance of the year. April found us chasing donkeys in little rubber shoes around the gym at our Donkey Basketball Game. In June we look forward to Class Night, Senior Reception, Senior Brunch and Graduation. During the past four years, the Class of ' 78 has grown from a mass of scared and timid freshmen to a group of individuals with many diversified talents. We are now about to explore and experiment with these talents. Although we don ' t know what to expect as we go out into the world with apprehension, we do know that The Best Is Yet to Come.
