ZMUDSKY 1917 — 1977 GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT HEAD 1947 — 1977 CROSSINCi THE BAR Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar. When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep. Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell. And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell. When I embark; For tho ' from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar. Tennyson All men are born to die. The moment of birth is truly the first stage of a journey that leads inevitably to death. This irrefutable fact should make the onset of death an easily accepted event, but such is not the case. The mind which accedes to this rationality cannot influence the heart, and that is where death wounds most cruelly. It is neither rational nor logical, but it is very real nonetheless. The man who has lived the just life is promised fitting recompense and has nothing to fear from death. Why then do we mourn.- ' We mourn because we are selfish; our grief is for the loss of a treasured companion. We mourn because there is an emptiness in our hearts where once lived a friend. We mourn for the smile that no longer will grr-f - -ic we chance ' n one another during the day. We mourn for the friend who always had a compassionate ear with which to listen to a problem. We mourn for a dedicated educator who helped thousands of young people find the right path into the adult world. We mourn for the husband and father who will no longer be able to share the small joys and triumphs, the trials and tribulations of day to day living with his family. There are no words that can console those who grieve, that is some- thing only time can do. With time, the rent tc: rn in our hearts will mend a bit, but the scar that marks our loss will remain until the day when we also answer the call and cross the bar, as we put forth to sea. We are going to miss you sorely, Jim. 33 Looking ahead, we know the changing seasons will he filled with exciting possibilities . . . with new directions to explore, fresh choices to make, and further obstacles to overcome. But we are not afraid. author unknown JAMES H ALLEN Jim 305 Richardson Ave. Attleboro Honor Society 3, 4; Honor Roll 1, 2, 3, 4; Pres. LH.C. We won the Spirit Link Contest first, a class of 78 tradition it seems. Then, in October, came one of the highlights of our Junior year . . . PSAT ' s. Thanksgiving will be a big event for our class this year. We will be selling hot chocolate to warm the fans and to fatten our treasury while we try to peddle candy at the same time. We will also be involved in a contest among the four classes to see whose homecoming float is the best. In December, we look forward to a disc jockey dance and in May to our final event . . . The Junior Prom, to be held at the Hearthstone Inn in the Regency Ballroom Barry Goodinson, Junior Class President The Sophomore Class The Sophomore Class has been into a lot of activities so far this year. Tlie month of October was a busy one. During the first week we sold magazine and record subscriptions which turned out to be very success- ful. Later that month, we had fun sponsoring our first dance which helped to build up our treasury. Selling peanuts and confetti at the foot- ball games were some of the other activities we have been doing. The Sophomore Class sold carnations in school and at the Turkey Game. Some time after the new year, we plan to be selling candy during our fund raising week. Instead of sponsoring another dance, we were thinking of having a sophomore gathering. Considering we were left penniless, I ' d say we ' ve come a long way. We hope things keep going as well as they have been. With the spirited class that we have and a great advisor like Linda A. Gorst, I don ' t see how we can go wrong. Elaine Brathas Sophomore Class President The Freshman Class Upon entering your freshman year in high school, there arc many obstacles to overcome. One of them is establishing a reputation for your class. High school living was a new environment for us and we wanted to start off on the right foot. We wanted U) prove we were spirited from our heads to our toes. We wanted to get involved in as many activities as possible, hoping to make A.H.S. the best school yet. We were actively involved in making a float for the Thanksgiving Homecoming celebration, many dances, bake sales, and other fund rais- ing events. Jeanne Cuddy.
