17 ■ATTLEBORO HIGH SCHOOL 3 1654 300041099 WO The teacher is one who makes two ideas grow where only one grew before, Ebert Hubbard 6 7 is not enough to fight. It is the spirit which we bring to the fight that decides the issue. It is morale that wins the victory. George Catlett Marshall 8 10 have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T. Washington I 12 Dedication A good teacher is one who not only can make his students interested in their work, but is also concerned about their well-being. This year the class of 76 has decided to dedicate the yearbook to this type of teacher. She is capable of making her course interesting and enlightening for her students. More importantly, she is a friend to everyone who seeks her advice; she is never too busy to listen. Thank you, Mrs. Hebert, for all your contributions to the students of Attleboro High School. As we remember it (though there are those who would rather forget it), the class of ' 76 t(X)k shape back in September of 1973. It just so happened that we were the first class to enter the new Attleboro Comprehensive High School. This new concept in education enabled 2,400 students of varying backgrounds to share certain talents and interests in the hopes of building strong, well rounded individuals. Needless to say, it didn ' t always work. But we were here, and we tried to make the best of it. The first few days at school brought all sorts of wonderful surprises. For instance, there was homeroom. It was here that we learned how to fill out forms. Who knows where we would be without that kind of experience! Then there was the very basic problem of trying to find out where you should go — or more important where you were! There were A, B, C, D, and E buildings — you had your choice. Oh, it wasn ' t all that bad if you couldn ' t find your way; you always had those wonderful upperclassmen to help you out. Scxjn though we got used to it and settled down. We elected Tad Washburn as President, Chuck Quinter as Vice President, Linda Levis as Secretary, and Howie Angevine as Treasurer. For representatives we elected Bob Schulze, Linda Foley, Karen Harriett, Lisa Pelletier, and Wally Niquette. The year brought many activities. There were the candy sale, the tremendously successful bag sale, and the school dances. Meanwhile, the Drama Class was busy putting on Bye Bye Birdie for the school play. As our first year at Attleboro High School came to an end, we began to ask ourselves if it was really worth it. Needless to say some of us thought it was — and then there were the others who knew it wasn ' t. In any case most of us looked forward to the summer vacation. But before we went we elected Bob Schulze as President, Harle Perkins as Vice President, Michelle Tremblay as Treasurer, and Liz Estremera as Secretary. And so we waited in anticipation for next year and all those upperclassmen advantages. Tad Washburn Sophomore Class President 1973-1974 OUR JUNIOR YEAR Coming back from the summer, everyone was a little older and a lit- tle wiser. We were no longer the unimportant underclassmen of the year before and what better way to denote our superiority than by our class rings. However, these rings were very different from those of past years. We even had a choice of what kind of ring we wanted. Those who had a little more spirit could have gotten the bicentennial rings. Being the class of ' 76 gave us that extra spirit. We displayed this in win- ning the annual spirit links contest (but then losing on a technicality when the seniors cheated!). Our Thanksgiving Day float proved to be the best by far. This new year was to begin with new faces representing and leading our class. Kyle Corkum, Wally Niquette, Karen Bartlett, Linda Foley, Steve Kerrins were elected to student government. Linda Foley was student government treasurer. We elected Bob Schulze as our president, Harle Perkins as vice president, Michelle Tremblay as treasurer, Liz Estremera as secretary. These people were to organize and lead all our social and fund raising activi- ties. However we were not the only people raising money that year. Candy, calendars, stationery, candles, towels, and cookies were being sold by almost everyone. 4 As the winter season progressed things started to die off. This year things were different. As Christmas arrived, we all gathered in the Resource Center to sing Christmas carols. After Christmas the F.S.A. and Key Club put on the Greaser Dance and it was the most successful dance in Attleboro High history. Everyone participated and it will be an annual event. April and May were two event filled months. The musical play the Matchmaker was performed by the Drama Class on April nineteenth. Then on May second our first formal social event was held — the Junior Gathering. It took place at the Hearthstone Restaurant with Eternity providing the music. The final event of the school year was the Junior Class Picnic at Newport Beach on June seventeenth and it signaled the end of our junior year. Bob Schulze Junior Class President 1974-1975 OUR SENIOR YEAR Fall of 1975 arrived, beckoning the Class of 1976 together for their final year of high school. Our newly elected officers were ready to lead us through this year: Wally Niquette — President, Michelle Tremblay — Vice-President, Wayne Forester — Treasurer, and Brenda Stevens — Secre- tary. Senior officers of the Student Government were Kyle Corkum, President; and Linda Foley, Treasurer. Our class advisors were Mrs. Judy Hebert, Mr. Bill Watterson, and Mr. Edward Stan- ton. Football season was exciting as we watched the Attleboro High Bombers compete with the Boston Red Sox! No one will be able to forget those rallies when the Key Club introduced us to the AHS Bombadierettes (they certainly had legs!). The Turkey Day game was an exciting one, as we tied North, 22 all. Hilda . . . welcome home for six months! Throughout the fall, the Senior Class sponsored many activities. In October, we dressed up for Hero Day. The halls were full of Marx Brothers, Batmen and Robins, and many other wild char- acters. We had a Rock Concert, featuring Johanna Wild and Bozo, and there were Blue and White Spirit Days. The most exciting event was the Senior Prom held at the Venus de Milo on November 21, 1975. It was one of the best proms in the history of Attleboro High School — over four hundred people were in attendance. Time it was, oh what a time it was was the theme of the prom. Wally Niquette crowned Pat Shockro as the queen, and also initiated a Senior Prom cake ceremony — the cake was baked by culinary arts. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As fall was fading, the Drama Class was working on their contribution to our Bicentennial — an assembly full of twisted history, singing, and serious highlights. The AHS band was involved in extensive fund-raising projects, trying to raise money for a spring trip to England. The basketball and swim teams were warming up for their quickly-approaching seasons, and Christmas vacation was in the air. When we returned to school from vacation, we realized that the year was half over. College applications were being sent out, and some members of the Senior Class had already been awarded special honors. Erin Perry was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist. Commended Merit Scholars were Wayne Forester, Kim Sager, and Laura Nakshian. Wally Niquette received both the Bausch and Lomb Science Award and the DAR Good Citizenship Award. Wayne Forester received the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award (continuing the new trend of male recipients of these awards!). After actually enjoying a snow day, we realized that winter was upon us. During these months, Mr. Haselton taught us how to square dance, and we put our knowledge to good use one Saturday night at our own Senior Class sponsored Square Dance. Winter was cold, but being measured for caps and gowns gave us a glimmer of hope that spring was not far away! Basketball games, the Winter Olympics, swim meets, and gymnastics often showed us the thrill of victory and every now and then the agony of defeat. The future holds many things. In March, the seniors will once again be asked to give blood, for the Senior Class is sponsoring another Blood Drive. The school play, Carousel, will be rehearsed and our Senior Class actor and actress have already received the lead roles. Spring w ' lW burst forth with baseball. Spring Track, and Golf. The Senior Reception, Breakfast, and Class Night will soon be a memory, and graduation will become a reality. We ' ve come a long way, and we plan to go a lot further! Wally E. Niquette Senior Class President 1975-76 Senior Superlatives MOST STUDIOUS Erin Perry MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Erin Perry Bill Babcock Wally Niquette 148 157 162 The Junior Class Cindy Cook, President; Pat Hill, Treasurer; Cathy Hillman, Vice President; Barbara Schultheiss, Secretary The Junior Class started off the year with a very large treasury and a lot of activities and plans for the year ahead. The junior year in high school is a very important year because we are now upperclassmen and there are many things to be done. My major goal for this year is to build up our treasury in preparation for our proms, both junior and senior, graduation, and our many other activities. First of all to start off the year we received our class rings which really showed that we were at last upperclassmen. Then came the time to prepare for our P.S.A.T.s which were given in October. The month of November was a very busy one. First of all there was the preparing for the homecoming. This of course involves making a float along with choosing a queen. Also during this time, to make money, we sold Class of 77 buttons. On December 19th we have planned a Christmas Dance. There are also many other Christmas activities being planned. During the month of January, we pian a fundraising Candy Sale which will involve the whole class. The money made will go towards the Junior Gathering. We also have a concert planned for March. In the spring, we have some very big ideas. Besides having the usual car wash and bake sale, we plan on having a Record Breaking Day with student council. We hope to bring the whole community in on this activity. Also in May, we have the big event of the year, the Junior Gathering. I am looking forward to a very good year and I hope to add many more activities to the list. Your Class President Cindy Cook 163 The Sophomore Class James England, Vice President; Tracey Bellevance, Treasurer; Carlene Caruso, President; Nancy Alger, Secretary The Class of ' 78 has been into many activities this year. At the begin- ning of the school year we had planned a car wash. The car wash had a big turnout, with a lot of the class being involved. We had a lot of fun and made quite a bit of money. In Oaober there was a week which was called Spirit Week. That was a week where you showed your Spirit. Each class sold links, at the price of t each. At the end of the week we were told who won, and it was the Sophomore Class — the most spirited class! It was a thrill to all of us. Sophomore fund raising week is coming up. This is where we sell different types of goods to raise money. We also have a dance featuring Creed, in December. We hope this will turn out to be a great success. In March we are having a dance for sophomores called the Sopho- more Gathering. This is a formal dinner dance. We have had a lot of requests for this and we hope it will be as great as we have been plan- ning it. We hope to complete this year with success in all our activities. Sophomore Class President Carlene Caruso 165 166 The Freshman Class Anthony Savastano, President; Michelle Gossclin, V. President; Maureen Fox, Secretary; Diannc Cota, Treasurer Spirit . . . involvement . . . friendliness . . . teamwork . . . good times . . . sports . . . what we are all about Ehie to the fact that we are Freshmen and have not had any previous years in the High school to plan this year ' s activities, we have not had many activities at the beginning of this year. Anyway, I think it is turn- ing out to be a super year for us and I think we have three more super years ahead of us at the high school. We are planning a lot of activities for the future months of this year. The Freshmen are beginning to show a lot of spirit and are also getting involved in school activities and sports. One example of the Freshman sports is our freshman football team which had a fantastic record of 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. The fresh- men are friendly and good-natured. I think that we have the best fresh- man class ever to enter the high school.
