Text from Pages 1 - 208 of the 1974 volume:

The Warmth of Memories The thoughts, dreams, and themes that fill your heart The thoughts go by the dreams stay high Your schemes go on your theme, your creation . . . As you hunt thru rambling bush walking slowly towards peace and salvation. The tantalizing way of being you as natural and pure as the sky is blue. Blowing thru your mind searching hard for something hard to find . Find the answer thru a soft calm breeze and in golden memories. They stay in your heart each piece has a part No lock or chain To keep from being spotted with rain. To save and treasure piled high with pleasure As you worry about you and cry of dreams untrue. You ' ll soon find a ready-made cast And it will stay forever and last and last. When you ' re young with your everyday high When you climb the highest trees reaching towards the clear blue sky . . . running down the street meeting friends and more friends to meet . Watching in an airplane walking in the summer rain Will be carried forever and as light as a feather. Your moments of happiness so precious as your first kiss . . . Filled with loves and losses Roads you wander, points and crosses They stay in your soul as you gain trust as you grow old The beginnings and the ends remembering past friends Hold together so clear and true so natural as the sky is blue. When you smile and when you cry β€” as each day drifts by . . . Planted like a seed in your heart they stay forever and never fall apart. The warmth of true memories fresh as a summer breeze Grow stronger and stronger As your life gets longer and longer And the truth of golden memories stay imprinted in your soul forever. We are not the only people saying good-bye, though. Coach Cassidy said good-bye to his coaching career in football at the end of this year ' s season. He has coached many fine athletes who have gone on to play college ball, or even further, He has his own way of psyching up his players and getting them ready for a game. This year ' s team finished with a respectable 7-2-0 record. His overall record at A.H.S. is 85-38-2, and he had teams place first in the old Bristol County League. The School will miss seeing him on the ball field, and we ' re sure he will miss it even more. But after 14 years of great coaching and great accomplishments, he stepped down. ' β„’ To you, Coach, we extend our sincere thanks and wish you good luck. 38 Front β€” M. Kulaga, J. Ellis, C. Quimby, B. Otrando, S. Hall, W. Lamoureux, S.Johnson, B. Pardey, K. Marvelle. Betty Crocker Family, Leader of Tomorrow β€” Debi Wild 144 Semester II Registration 1 SOPHOMORE YEAR September 1971 marked our turn to enter A.H.S. With it, we filled the halls with more students than there had ever been. Because of the immense size of our class we couldn ' t fit into the audito- rium for various assemblies. After two weeks of learning the layout of the building we had class elections. The votes were all tallied and our class officers for that year were: Debi Wild, president; Dave Hebert, vice-presi- dent; Doug Clark, treasurer; and Chris Soares, secretary. To represent our class at student council meetings we elected: Tom Moore, Doug Emory, Miggie Correia, Lori Salisbury, Pat Brooks, and Linda Leitao. Our football team kept the title of B.C.L Champions for the third consecutive year. At the Turkey Game we brought Hilda home with a smashing victory over North (14-8). To celebrate our victory over North a dance was held and Miggie Correia was crowned our sophomore queen. With the beginning of the new B.C.H.A. our hockey team skated its way to a 10-2-0 record, b ringing home the honors of second place. In March the senior play was put on by Mr. Genest and the drama club featuring The Boy Friend. To represent our class Joan Rotenberg was chosen for one of the leading roles. With the coming of May, cheerleader and majorette tryouts were held in the gym. To join next year ' s squad were: Betsey Flanagan, Diane Raposa, Robin Watterson, and Kim Wendell. The cho- sen Majorettes were: Joan Brassard, Cherry Bliss, Lynne Marginson, Cheryl Mello, and Celeste Smith. In June, the Balfour representatives came and we ordered our class rings. We knew it was only a matter of time bef ire we would be upperciassmen. JUNIOR YEAR As we entered A. U S. in the fall of ' 72, not only had we changed, but our school was undergo- ing a change as well. There were many overcrowded classes which were held in the gym, audito- rium and any place there was space. But our one advantage was that, now as upperciassmen we were able to have the long awaited privilege of SST. To help reduce the confusion we elected as officers: Bill Niquette, president; Diane Fountas, vice president, Debi Robichaud, secretary; and Jeff Mullen, treasurer. Elected to our Student Council were Tom Moore, Bart McAndrews, Howard Bibeault, Joellen Germaine, Sara Eddy, and Joan Rotenberg, treasurer. To the newly organized Student Advisory Board Mark Hayden was elected. Our football had a smashing victory over our cross-rivals, Bishop Feehan. At the turkey game, Respite the cold weather the Attleboro fans cheered their team on endlessly. But we lost and we -knew that next year there would be another chance to bring Hilda home. Co-captains for the fol- lowing year were Steve Hall and Mike Kulaga. The track team also had a great season placing 2nd in Conference Meet. Our own Sean McCracken set a new school record in the two mile (9:39:5) and placed fourth in the State meet. Our hockey team remained in second place with Brian W. Cook the leading league scorer. The final record was 8-2-2. Chosen as head cheerleader was Diane Raposa with Laura Wayne joining the squad. Joan Bras- sard was named head majorette while Cindy McNary was chosen our Bombardier Eagle. In March, Mr. Genest and the drama club enacted the play By The Skin of Our Teeth. Many honored students from our class were inducted into the National Honor Society. Elected as their officers were Bill Niquette, president; Peter Nelson, vice president; Cindy Moore, secre- tary; and Brad Germain, treasurer. Chosen for Boys ' State were Bill Niquette, Bart McAndrews, and Bill Farrell. For Girls ' State: Cindy Moore, Diane Fountas, Joan Rotenberg, and Lori Humlak. Lori was also chosen as winner of the Voice of Democracy. Our Junior Prom was held at the Falstaff in Seekonk, on May 18, 1973. Many of our fellow classmen attended and they all had a nice time. As our junior year was coming to a close we knew that the year we had been waiting for was finally arriving. 146 SENIOR YEAR We entered the completed high school in the fall of our senior year. We were pleased but incredulous at finding ourselves seniors. The finished addition was curiously empty of the materi- als and workmen with which we associated our former years. We elected as our final class officers, Dan Cui, president; Greg Karol, vice president; Diane Fountas, secretary; Jeff Mullen, treasurer. Added to our student council were Keith Hutchings, Cindy McNary, Betsey Flanagan, Sheree Dukes, Tom Moore, Beverly Costine, Howard Bibeault, Beth Frigon, and Joan Rotenberg. Joan Rotenberg was elected president and Betsey Flanagan was elected treasurer of the Student Council. Mark Hayden was reelected to the Advisory Board and Kirk Johnson was elected for his first year. In football our 6-0 record was secure until we ran up against Dartmouth. The Turkey game was the most exciting game of the season with North scoring the winning touchdown with only 10 seconds left. This was Coach Cassidy ' s last season of coaching our football team. Everyone appre- ciates the great job he has done. Our Feehan rally was the most spirited rally of our three years at A.H.S. At the North rally, Ruth Holander was chosen as our senior Homecoming Queen. On November 16th, 1973, our senior prom was held at the Venus De Milo, in Swansea. Dan Cui crowned Miggie Correia as our Queen. Included in her court were Eileen Brogan, Celeste Smith, Jackie Case, Lynn McCullan, Betsey Flanagan, Pat Cash, Gail Franklin, Mary Lou Rader, and Carrie Hill. So far our hockey team is having its best season yet, with the record of 8-0-3. With the continu- ing support of the fans, our team is assured the BCHA title. The Winter track team captured the South Eastern Massachusetts Conference Title, with three outstanding athletes from our class: Neil Shanley running the 600, Bob Otrando throwing the shot, and Sean McCracken running the two mile. The Commended Merit Scholars program awarded honors to the following: Ken Paille, Harold Goll, John Ritacco, Jeff Mullen, Sheree Dukes, Nancy Pimental, Cindy Moore, Bill Farrell. The semi-finalists were Bill Niquette, Bart McAndrews, and Brian Morriseau. Diane Fountas D.A.R. Good Citizen Award. Ronald Midura, Bausch and Lomb Award. Diane Fountas and Bill Niquette earned the Elk ' s Leadership Award; Bill Niquette, Voice of Democracy, and Debi Wild, Betty Crocker Award. Due to the yearbook deadlines we must close, knowing we have other events to look forward to: the winner of the newly established ping-pong tournament, the senior play, Bye Bye Birdie, the senior reception at the King Phillip, class night, and GRADUATION. As time passes our graduation will only be one of the boundaries we have exceeded during our three years at A.H.S. Bonnie Dorrance Diane Kozinski Claire Laferriere P.S. We ' ve studied the decline of the Roman Empire and now we watch our government going to pieces. Watergate is a household word. Our Vice President, Spiro T. Agnew, has resigned and has refused to answer charges against him. Gerald Ford is our reigning V.P. The govern- ment says the U.S. is no longer part of the Viet Nam War, yet many of our men are still over there. Our faith in our government has completely been shattered. The bicycle is necessary along with lots of firewood due to the gas shortage and Energy Crisis. We went to school in the dark since we changed to Day Light Saving dme.
