ATTLEBORO HIGH SCHOOL 3 1654 30004 1594 Tattletale Attleboro High School AHleboro, Massachusetts Dedication Mr. Maurice Camire During our few years at AHS. a great part of our develop- ment and success has been due to the interest of the AHS fac- ulty. They have tried to unclersland us. to challenge our think- ing, and to guid ' us toward the right goals. One member of the faculty in particular is brought to mind when the word interested is used. He has devoted all his time to the process of teaching and continues his efforts in after-school activities. To the members of the student council, he was advisor and companion — ready to express his ideas, eager to help in their activities, and a real spirit rouser when it came to financial campaigns. To the student body in general, he is a dedicated teacher and an understanding friend, respected and admired by all who know him. We. the Class of 1973. proudly and with deepest api)recia- tion. dedicate our xcarbook and our fondest memories to Mr. Maurice Camire. Margaret Canary — Co-Editor Mrs. Edith Turner — Advisor Anne Lee — Co-Editor Foreword With each step we take in our lives, a minute goes by. And within that minute are collected many memories passed, which can never be erased by time. We, the co-editors of the 1973 Tattletale, have chosen A Time For Us as our theme because we feel it is our time and our turn to rebuild the world lor all future generations. This can only be accomplished through our educa- tion, knowledge and experiences. In our past three years at A.H.S., we have made many friends and enjoyed being with one another, growing as one whole. Let us relive those times within the pages of this book and try to realize that it was a time for us . . . . . . to learn . . . to compete . . . to sing . . . to participate ... to socialize ... to depart Anne and Margaret MR. Winter freezes, then melts away to spring. Like that of life melting away into death. One day, it ' s just like the beginning, and the next wi Seem like it ' s the dawn before your last. DONNA LUCIER December 20, 1955 - January 3, 1973 I sit alone, as the fire glows. Does anyone know? I miss you as the night wind softly blows . . . Why don ' t you sit awhile? For no one smiles, what ' s happened to the world? People come and people go within the endless mile. But does anyone really know, I miss you as the night wind blows . . . Poems by Donna Lucier 133 In Memonam (I A. B( ' ss( ' ti( Mr. Armand Bessette was a dedicated teacher, but more, he was a friend to students. Mr. Bessette was more concerned that a student know himself rather than Chau- cer. At any time Mr. Bessette was willing to give of his time, and of himself. It is not difficult, therefore, to understand why all those who knew Mr. Bessette had a deep respect and love for him. It was easy to respect Mr. B« ' ssette — to know him was to respect him. He chal- lenged us, argued with us, laughed with us, talked to us, and listened to us. In short, he respected us. Yes, Mr. Bessette was a teacher and a friend, or perhaps it would be better to say that Mr. Bessette was a friend who taught us about life and ourselves. It was not easy, but we thank you for it, Mr. Bessette, and we will try always to be worthy of your unselfish devotion. U Superlatives Superlatives 139 Superlatives 140 Superlatives 141 Superlatives Class History Sophomore Year And so we entered as Sophomores, armed with floor plans and expensive elevator passes, guided in every direction, other than where we were going, by our upperclassmen. But as we settled down, under the guidance of our four class officers, Dave Vaughan (Pres.), Nancy LaPierre (Vice Pres.), Julie Schlothauer (Sec.) and Mary Jane Bussiere (Treas.), we had a very properous year with a negative $16 in the treasury. The next event on the list for the year was to elect our representatives to the Student Council. They were Jane Casey, Mary Bolton, Brian Dale and Steve Kane. With their help, we accomplished many feats which even the Jrs. and Soph, had failed to do in the years before. We cheered on our football team, as we remained co-champions with New Bedford in the Bristol County League. At the Victory Dance we were represented by our Sophomore Queen, Debbie Denzer. In the Spring cheering tryouts were held and five girls were chosen; Sue Anderson, Karen Blackburn, Jo- Ellen Childs, Joy Kindberg, JoAnne Shockro, along with Miss Paivr as their new advisor. Majorettes for the following year were LuAnne LaMothe, Jane Carrot, Debbie Denzer, Robin Anderson, Robin Catenacci and Patty Perry. As the year came to an end we ordered our class rings and looked to the next year of not being the baby ' s of AHS. Junior Year After we made it through our first year adjustments we grew up to be BIG Juniors. We began it by choosing our class officers who- were Tim Brennan (Pres.), Nancy LaPierre (Vice. Pres.), Lenore Shamey (Treas.), and Sue Anderson (Treas.). Our big goal was filling the gap in our treasury so we had a car wash and bake sale which took us out of debt. In football we were the BCL Champs, also victorious in the Turkey Day Game in which we managed to keep Hilda for another year. Most valuable player for the season was awarded to one of our fellow class- men, Todd Holt. Tri-Captains chosen for the following year were Gregg Butterfield, Todd Holt and Fred Pardey. Our hockey team was tied in first place in the Bristol County Hockey League, but sports and academics weren ' t our only interests. We had many social activities such as The Spurlows, Feehan-Attleboro Mixer (sponsored by the Student Council) and the Senior Play The Boyfriend which had the help of many of our talented Juniors. Girls chosen for Girls ' State were: Sue LaCroix, Jane Casey and Cindy Cobb. Boys chosen for Boys ' State were: Joe Marques, Greg Debuc, Danny Fishbach and Steve Demers. Also many of our outstanding classmen were elected to the National Honor Society. JoAnne Shockro was named head cheerleader while LuAnn LaMothe and Jane Carrot were named head majorettes and Margaret Canary was chosen to become our eagle mascot. As our Junior year came to an end we looked forward to our last year at AHS. Senior Year At last, senior year has arrived. It has taken us two, long memorable years. We began our Senior year with four new leaders: Billy Welch (Pres.), Wendy Airey (Vice Pres.), Cheryl Joubert (Sec.) and Barbie Jo Dusseault (Treas.). We also elected Student Council Officers which included Steve Kane, President and John Marshall Vice President. Others elected were Jane Casey, Brian Dale, Tracy Frederickson, Sue Maslen, Lenore Shamey, Mary Lee Smith, Brian Sullivan, Dave Vaughan and Gail Argenc- ourt. In football we smashed the Shamrocks, our cross-town rival. Bishop Feehan, with a score of 33-0. As for our annual Thanksgiving Day clash with North, well, there ' s always next year. The MVP trophy was- awarded to Greg Butterfield at our Thanksgiving Day Rally. Key Club he.ped to create much spirit within the school, under the leadership of Steve Cameron with their spirit shop and rallies. The Prom, social highlight of the year, was held on November 17, 1972 at the Royal Court Ballroom, Knottingham Village in Seekonk. Robin Catennaci was chosen queen and her court included Pat Grimley, Dianne St. Pierre, JoAnn Childs, Lenore Chamey, Mary Jane Bussiere, Sue Maslen and Debbie Denzer. In December, Tri-Y, led by President Barbara Vickery, sponsored the annual Christmas Dance which proved to be a great success with a large number of students attending. Mike Conley, Cross Country Captain, broke his own record (6:3:1) over all record for the season. So far our hockey team, 7-2, Vi game behind our North Rival, is hoping to capture the BCHL Crown, for a second year. Academically we had four students who received letters of commendation from the National Merit Schol- arship Program. They are: Pete Ashley, Dave Vaughan, Carol Bradshaw and Laurie Handran. More students to be recognized are Jane Casey, DAR Good Citizen Award, Mary Bolton, Betty Crocker Homemaker Award, Lori Humlack, Voice of Democracy Award Winner and Steve Kane, Good Government Day Representative. We ' re all proud of our basketball team despite the loss of many players, because of injury. Again our winter track team, under the coaching of Mr. Newman and Mr. Fredrick, had a successful season with Mike Conley breaking a new record in the mile 4:19:9 and Sean McCraken in the two mile, 9:39:5. Because of the yearbook deadline, our history will have to end here. However, there are still many things to look forward to in the last few months of this Senior year. Because of the success of the trips to Spain and France, students are going again in April and a trip to Germany is also scheduled. The Skin of our Teeth is being presented by the Drama Club in March. A new cafeteria breakfast program will be instituted in the spring. Graduation, the Senior Reception and Class Day will serve as our final activities here at AHS. In June the events of the three years will soon become only memories, for the class of 1973 will leave, fondly recalling our happy days at AHS as A Time For Us.
