I AIILfBORO, MASSACHOSfTTS Dedication We, the Class of 1967, are proud to dedi- cate our yearbook to Mr. Allan L. Corkum, an outstanding member of the faculty. Through- out his teaching career he has shown his students an extra measure of kindness and understanding. He spends many an hour after school listening to and helping his students with both their scholastic and social probioms. Because of his kindness, as well as his super- ior teaching ability, he has gained the admira- tion and deep respect of the entire class. We would like to thank you, Mr. Corkum, for your affection, sincerity, and warm under- standing of our generation. A STUDENT IS ? Students can be found everywhere; running around, stepping over, and slithering past teachers. A Student is courage under a graduation cap, a smile in a patch of blue, and energy that is endless. Just v hen he is gaining poise and prestige he drops his books, trips up the stairs and steps on a teacher ' s foot. To the administration he has the stability of mush, the fleetness of a snail, the men- tality of a mule, and is held together by God only knows what. A Student likes bomb scares, days off, assemblies and rallies. He abhors alarm clocks, school lunches, report cards and session halls. No one else can cram into his head history, physics, English, French, and trig while listening to his favorite songs. A Student is a wonderful creature; you can criticize him, but you can ' t discourage him, you can hurt his feelings, but you can ' t make him quit. Might as well admit it, he is your personal representative of the school, your living symbol of knowledge and your hope for tomorrow. F A C U L T Y MR. WILLIAM CON LAN Social Studies MR. Its members, chosen by their fellow classmates, conduct rallies, assemblies, elections, the annual Bermuda Day scholarship drive, the Victory Dance and do significant work in the interest of the entire student body. This year we have organized a pep club to spur on the mighty A.H.S. teams. We are also proud to be active members of the Attleboro Area Association of Student Councils and to have the president from our school. Seated: J. Samson, T Hales, G. Morin, R Murphy, Cosfa, R. She is the second in her fam- ily to come to the United States; her cousin came a few years ago. Bertha ' s cousin and one of her friends, who had also come to the U.S. through the A.F.S. wrote to her and told her what a won- derful experience it was. She then de- cided to apply. Having had the required courses, three years of English and a course in public speaking. Bertha took four tests. After waiting anxiously, she was notified in April of 1966 that she had been chosen. Coming to Attleboro High, Bertha took a business course because she plans to be a secretary. She hopes that her year in the United States will help her prepare for a job in an American company in her own country. BERTHA PENA RODOLFO LAURORA The students at A.H.S. were pleased to have had a second exchange student come to Attleboro. Rodolfo Laurora is from the city of Comodoro Rivailzviz in the Southern part of Argentina. There he attended a National High School offering liberal arts education where he carried a load of twelve different subjects in a year, although not every day . He left in the middle of his senior year in order to come to the United States and broaden his education. Rodolfo joined the class of ' 67 at A.H.S. in February and promptly took on a heavy schedule of Senior English, Contemporary Affairs, U.S. History, Calculus, Spanish III, and Typing. When he re- turns to Argentina, he will finish the half year he missed there and then go on to a specialized col- lege. The Class of ' 67 extends their welcome to Bertha and Rodolfo and wishes them a pleasant stay in the United States. 4 Senior Play Guilty or not guilty , that is the question. This year ' s dramatic production, Twelve Angry Jurors , a tense drama in the jury room, is a unique adaptation of Reginald Rose ' s Twelve Angry Men . Under the inspiring direction of Mr. Paul Kelly, with an abundance of talent, and with an excellent script, this is bound to be a most moving play from the drama showcase of AHS. This is a program in which the school, the student, and the businessman work together in prepar- ing the student for an office occupation. This program gives senior students who are majoring in business education, an opportunity to acquire office experience as a part of their high school work by attending school in the morning and working in a business office in the afternoon. Under the guidance and supervision of the coordinator, AAiss Blanche Arzooyan, head of the business depart- ment, students are afforded the opportunity of practicing what they learn in school under actual office conditions. New techniques, skills, and understandings are developed through business office experience that cannot be taught in the classroom. The students work a minimum of fifteen hours per week, but usually not more than twenty-four hours per week and are paid appropriate regular wages for the work they perform, this work hav- ing been planned by the cooperating employer to provide the maximum desirable learning exper- iences. The following companies are cooperating in this venture: Anadite, Inc., Attleboro Trust Company, L..G. Balfour Company, First National Bank, Instrument Development Laboratories, Josten ' s, Inc., Leach Garner Company, London ' s, Reeves Company, Swank, Inc., and Texas Instruments. 125 Cafeteria Staff Sophomore Year And so we were bound on our first day in Septennber, 1964, to begin a new life feeling our way through the nnaze of corridors, guided only by the torch- light of maps and upperclassmen ' s misdirections. However, it didn ' t take long for the seemingly endless journey to shorten as we met with responsibilities and activities. . , Our first and most significant action was to elect members of our class to the Student Council. When the excitement of the elections had ceased, the following students were chosen to represent our class: Judith Mahoney, Maureen Kenny, agd Brad Peach. n j n u Next the officers to lead our class for the sophomore year were Brad Peach, President; Marc Boyd, Vice-President; Marcia Lawrence, Secretary; and Cynthia Cooper, Treasurer. As our paths led us to the multitude of activities and traditions, we cheered our football team on to share second place in the Bristol County League with Durfee High School for the season. Yet, AHS lost the Thanksgiving Day game to North Attleboro. However, at the Victory Dance, we were well-represented by Donna Curtis our Sophomore Queen. Then came the Tech Tourney with all its excitement. Optimistic after winning the first game the Bombardiers lost the second round to Sommerville. Again we were summoned to participate in other activities. Sophomores were stars of the National Honor Society-sponsored Variety Show WAHS T.V. , with Mr Francis O ' Connell as director. Also, in the senior-sponsored play, Girl Crazy directed by Mr Paul (Speech) Kelly, sophomore Peter Johnson played a lead role, along with Robert Rotenberg and Jack Sheehy as other sophomores sang in the ' With spring came the cheerleading tryouts. After much practice, three girls made the squad: Donna Curtis, Paula Morin, and Linda Hudson. Ma.orette tryouts too, were held as our twirlers were: Carol Lander, Andrey Champagne, and Gail %TnlNy ' ! ' the end of our baby year was met by the mad race for upperclassmen grace as we ordered our class rings in Cafeteria A! P.S. Note that the baseball team scored one win! Junior Year Branded with our illustrious rings, our herd of juniors again met with the responsibilities of rustling up campaigns for posts in the student goyernr ent. Junior elected to represent our class on the Student Council were: Marcia Lav rence Maureen Kenny, Marc Boyd, Brad Peach, Joe Proia, Cynthia Cooper, and Audrey ' officers elected to lead the junior class were: Marc Boyd, president; Maureen Kenny vice-president; Marcia Lawrence, secretary; and Donna Curtis, treasurer. As the leaves fell from the surrounding trees, our football season with seven wins and one loss, left us the Bristol County League Championship! Then, cheering faithfully, the Bombardiers lost the Thanksgiving Day game. Our Junior Queen for the Victory Dance was, again. Donna Curtis. At the end of the football season, our co-captains for the oncoming year were announced: Steve Mendes and Joe Murphy. A season of good basketball playing was beginning. We made it to Tech Tourney ... but lost again to Salem! Soon we had our hand in extracurricular activities. The Variety Show, Cavalcade of Music under the direction of Mr. Michael Tenore, was energetically represented by an a-go-go of juniors. Also, in the senior-sponsored play, Born Yesterday directed by Mr. Paul Kelly, starred the talented members of our class: Robert Rotenberg, Melanie Kocima, John Sheehy, Barbara Waluk, and Nancy Goulet. April brought the demonstrations of protest when Mr. Miles and Mr. Orlando left A.H.S. Several members of our class participated in this event by joining in the before school demonstration. However, life continued. In May applications were passed out to those eligible for the National Honor Society. Those students achieving the required standards of scholarship, leadership, character, and service were: Maureen Kenny, Janet James, Peter Johnson, Nancy Goulet, Kay Burkhalter, John Sheeny, Neil Policow, Cynthia Cooper, Arnold Savolainen, Carlton Cruff, Linda Eberhardt, Roberta Zar- rella, Nancy Hindley, Donna Martelli, Candy Keeler, Lance Jusczyk, Melanie Kocima, and Donald Standring. The two girls selected for Girls ' State were Janet Jannes and Melanie Kocinna. The two boys chosen for Boys ' State were Douglas Conlan and Peter Johnson. The end of our Junior year was marked by a musical note as the A Cappella Choir won their third trophy. P.S. The baseball team scored two wins this season! Senior Year September 1966. We ' d been riding the waves for the past twelve years, and now we were to meet with the surf ' s breaking crest. Seniors at last! Again, members of our class launched campaigns for positions on the Student Council. Those elected were: Cynthia Cooper, Audrey Champagne, Tom Murphy, Joe Proia, and Audrey Samson with Roberta Zarrella, Bruce Sargeant, and Richard Morse as alternates. Officers to the Student Council were: Marc Boyd, president; Brad Peach, vice-president; Maureen Kenny, secretary; and Marcia Lawrence, treasurer. Also, officers to lead our class for the senior year were: Bruce Sargeant, presi- dent; Maureen Kenny, vice-president; Marcia Lawrence, secretary, and Cynthia Cooper, treasurer. No sooner did assemblies begin than the seniors demonstrated their first solo act to rebellion. The boycott. Remember? Stand up! I ' m a Senior! And . . . the Senior Blast ? Well, soon to follow was a running and winning football season, followed by another surprising loss to North Attleboro. Hilda, that fair lady, shot the Bombers down again! However, Sheila Hayes brightened the scene as she reigned as the Victory Queen. To the Tech Tourney? ? Just let it be known that we have a basketball team! From across the Southern borders, the A.F.S. carried two Spanish-speaking ex- change students to Attleboro High. Bertha Pena from Guatemala and Rodolfo Laurora from Argentina have made AHS cosmopolitan. Also, in the air of political education, AHS was most honored to have Senator Brooke and Governor Voipe come to speak to the student body. Marc Boyd was chosen Good Government Day Representative with Larry St. Pierre as alternate. Elected by the faculty and the students, Maureen Kenny was our D.A.R. Good Citizen. The Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation winners were Kenneth Cunha, Neil Policow, Cynthia Cooper, and Robert Rotenberg. Merit Scholarship semi- finalists were Alice Bragg and Nancy Goulet. It was a busy year as we again walked into the activities. The Varsity Show, Colors of Love , directed by Mr. Theodore Thibodeau, added talented senior hu- mor to our year. Twelve Angry Jurors , directed by Mr. Kelly, is sure to draw tense breaths from the audience as the seniors star in the show: Robert Rotenberg, Jack Sheehy, Peter Johnson, Diana Airey and Nancy Goulet. At this time, a deadline has left us minus the memories of future activities such as the Senior Prom, the reception, and graduation! Yet we anxiously await their arrivals!
