So it has been throughout our high school career. As we come closer to gradua- tion, we also come closer to the realization that the interests, talents, and, al)ove all. tlie knowledge which we have gained during our high school years are not the results of a minute, an hour, or a day of study. Rather, they are the products of a considerable amount of time — our three years at A.H.S., spent in the development of new ideals, new goals, and new knowl- edge. We, the class of 1964, sincerely look foi- v ' ard to these new acquisitions of the f ;T FT-- EDITOIO STANDING, 1. to r.: Sue Cath- cart, Margaret Bragg of Liter- ary Staff; Carol Couture, Typ- ing Staff; Kathy Hannon, Adele Miller of Business Staff; Di- ane Lindstrom, Donna Tansey of Layout Staff. Thus, two different per- formances could result in both guilty and not guilty jury deci- sions. Another outstanding feature of the play is its fine cast. Several of the lead roles are filled by seniors, who as juniors gained valuable acting experience in last year ' s successful musical, Babes in Arms. Under the excellent direction of Mr. Paul Kelly, the play will be presented April 24 and 25. They poured in from Thacher and South to start what many think was the best year in our history. The Class of ' 64 began the year by electing officers. Lariy DeSantos became our president, Bill Devine our vice president, Carol Gigliotti our treasurer, and Jane Levis our secretary. As Thanksgiving neared, we looked fomard to our first Thanksgiving rally in the auditor- ium, jammed to all four walls and to the balcony with screaming students alive with more spirit than ever imagined. Then came the Turkev Dav game, held at North Attleboro. Even though we lost 14-12. our victory dance, with Sandy Morse as our candidate for (jueen. was a success. Atter the Christmas vacation we looked forward to our hasketliall season. The annorv was packed every Tuesday and Friday nights and the gaines were full of excitement. Remember? Many of our boys were on the J.V. team — Larry DeSantos, John Simpson. Dave Wild. Pete Kapinos. John Horrocks. and Dean Poole. We made Tech Tourney that year, and our greatest victory was the second game when we beat Durfee and had a rally in the Y.M.C.A. parking lot at 12:30 A.M. Later in the year we held our annual Variety Show. San Francisco, under tlie direction of Mi . Scaturro. It was a great success. Near the end of the year we participated in our first Bernuula Day — the only time many of us have ever been comfortable in school! The cheerleading competition was held soon after in the auditorium. Five sophomore girls were chosen to cheer our boys on in our remaining years at A.H.S. — Judy Carpenter, Kim Keel- er. Carolee Murray. Fran Worden. and Ruth Tedeman ( sub) . Our majorettes were chosen, also. Thev were Sue Mullins, Jane Levis, Janet Towle. Arlene Ouellette. and Fran Walker. As the last day of school rolled around, our hearts and minds were filled with fond memories of the old high school. The crowded Latin room, the rickety wall in room 302. the Saturday set aside for dissecting frogs, the competition cheering, and the dances will always have a spe- cial meaning for us. At any rate we said good-bye to the old A.H.S., as we looked ahead to the new one and an even better school year as Juniors. JUNIOR YEAR September, 1962, brought a whole new way of life. It was like being a sophomore all over again. We moved into our new Attleboro High School with hopefulness and with a little re- luctance. However, we faced those first few weeks with courage, and elected Larry DeSantos, Bob Arru- da. Jane Levis, and Leslie Piche, as our class officers, to guide us through the year. This year marked the commencement of a new system of representation in the Student Council. V ' e elected Lany DeSantos, Jane Levis, Kim Keeler. Bill Devine. Leslie Piche. and alternates Jan Andrews and Carol Gigliotti to serve us. 132 As Thanksgiving drew near, we held a rally in the multicolored auditorium. Evidently, the rally succeeded in raising team spirit, because we tied North 6-6. which was a moral victory for us. Although only a sophomore, Al Zito carried off the Balfour trophy. The Victory Dance, held in our double cafeteria, was truly a Victory dance with Junior candidate, Sandy Morse, for the Queen. Basketball season came quickly and was welcomed enthusiastically. This year we saw the Juniors practically monopolize the starting line-up. As the season progressed. John Simpson. John Horrocks, Dave Wild, and Pete Kapinos did their best to support the team. As Juniors our girls were eligible for Tri-Y membership, and ten of them were elected. They were Fran Walker, Kim Keeler, Judy Carpenter, Nancy Schultlieiss, Leslie Piche, Carol Gigliotti, Gretchen Lundgren, Jane Levis, Meme Schultheiss, and Fran Worden. In early spring we became acquainted with our first bomb scare. As a result we had the greatest assembly ever, when Mr. Kelly and Mr. Pensavalle entertained us for nearly three hours. Mr. Kelly utilized the opportunity to advertise for Babes in Arms. giving the audience sneak previews of the musical. As things turned out, our early previews of Babes in Arms were surpassed by the two actual performances. We witnessed the best public program ever put on by A.H.S., in which our own Bill Bleasdale, Bob Moxham, and Bruce Fiske took leading roles. After the frantic last minute preparation of dummies for the yearbook, Nancy Schultheiss and Janice Andrews were chosen co-editors of the 1964 Tattletale. Nancy in the same week was chosen a cheerleader. Fran Walker became head majorette, and Fran Worden became head cheerleader. Our annual Scholastic Banquet was held with Sam Levenson as the guest speaker. Mr. Leven- son provided a delightful evening of laughter and entertainment. Next came the National Honor Society induction. The eleven Juniors who were inducted were Paul Reiss, Carol Gigliotti, Gretchen Lundgren, Nancy Schultheiss, Jane Levis, Judy Carpenter, Betty Simpson, Margaret Bragg, Patty Smith, Kim Keeler, and Carolyn Yeo. As the year ended, Al Gross, Bill Devine, Lyman Coding, and Paul Reiss were chosen to repre- sent A.H.S. at Boys ' State. With June came the close of another school year, but one which the class of ' 64 will remem- ber as a miemorable Junior year. Looking ahead to the coming September, we realized that we were almost Seniors. SENIOR YEAR As we entered our third and final year at A.H.S. , we realized that we were at last Seniors. With confidence and determination, we set out to make this last year our best. After a spirited campaign, we elected Bill Devine, Bill Bleasdale, Jane Levis, and Leslie Piche to lead us through the year. The Student Council election soon followed, and John Horrocks was chosen president; Carol Gigliotti, vice president; Kim Keeler, secretary; and Larry DeSantos, treasurer. After the business of electing officers was completed, our interests turned towards sports — 133 primarily football. With Larry DeSantos and Bob Aussant as the capable co-captains of tlie Blue Bombardiers, the team was a great success and whipped North 14-6 on Thanksgiving Day. Dick Bajnoci ran the length of the field to complete a touchdown, and for his athletic skill and sportsmanship shown that day was awarded the Balfour trophy. At the Victory Dance which followed, Judy Carpenter was elected our candidate for Victoiy Queen, and sei-ved on Dale John- son ' s Queen ' s Court. Although we were still stunned by the death of President Kennedy, both the game and the dance were considered successful. Tri-Y elections again came around, and the Senior members who were selected were Linda Mclnerny, Janet Towle, Debbie Walker, Betty Simpson, Patty Smith, Sue Mullins, Gloria Raposa, Arlene Ouellette, Janice Andrews, Carolyn Yeo, Ruth Tedeman, and Carolee Murray. Bill Bleasdale, our class vice president, was lucky enough to have his name drawn in a state- wide competition for a trip to Washington. Bill spent the week of Januaiy 27 in the Nation ' s capitol. Bruce Fiske, another politically-minded student, was elected our Good-Goveniment Day rep- resentative, with Judy Carpenter as alternate. During the spring Bruce will spend a day in the State House in Boston. Carol Gigliotti was chosen by the students and the faculty as the D.A.R. Good Citizen of our class. Our Variety Show. Around the World in Ninety Minutes. directed by Mr. O ' Connell, was held in January because of a postponement from the original date, November 22. It was a veiy successful and entertaining event, despite the long period of waiting. The arrival of the basketball season saw veterans Dave Wild, Pete Kapinos, John Horrocks, John Simpson, and John Shockro again take to the court along with our new players — Lane Neil- son, Dick-Stenberg, Dean Poole, and Mike Delutis — in an all-out effort to take A.H.S. to th e Tech Tournament. Features of the season were the scoring of 100 points against New Bedford Voke, 97 and 98 points against North and Bishop Stang, and our winning over Coyle and Durfee in very exciting games. At the end of January, casting for the Senior Play, The Night of January 16th, began. The Senior Class will be well represented by Bioice Fiske, Jane Levis, Bob Moxham, Gretchen Lund- gren, Nancy Schultheiss. Neil Hannon. Paul Reiss, John Matthews, Lany DeSantos, Diane Beaure- gard, and Gayle Pierce. The play itself will be presented in April. Because the Tattletale staff must meet their deadline in February, many of the year ' s most ex- citing events have not yet occurred. We are all eagerly looking forward to those trips to the Boston Garden for the Tech Touniey, our Senior Play, Senior Prom, and Reception, and all the other activities which are associated with our graduation. These three years at Attleboro High School have been enjoyable and profitable, from both a social and an educational point of view. We, the Class of ' 64, will always treasure the memo- ries of our dances, our rallies, the football and basketball games, shows, and plays. Moreover, we know the knowledge we have gained in high school will serve us throughout the remainder of our lives. Good Luck to all in the future! John F. Kennedy Farewell As our days at A. H. S. draw to a close, the past seems ever gone and the present inonieiitary. A whole new future awaits us — one to explore and develop into useful ca- reers. Yet so much we have learned in these past three years will be necessary for our future success in life. We leave Attleboro High School with the knowledge that we have experienced edu- cational and social opportunities here. It is fun to remember the basketball and football games and rallies, the dances, and other social events, but we realize that extracurricular activities are only a minor part of a high school education. The academic gain is an ad- vantage which will never be lost, in any walk of life. Remember your high school years as a time of learning — both educational and social. These experiences are the basis for your life in the future. As we bid you fare- well, may we wish the class of 1964 success and happiness. SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND DIVISION L. G.
