Lost, yesterday, somewhere be- tween sunrise and sunset, two gold- en hours, each set with 60 diamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever. Class History SOPHOMORE YEAR Who can forget that third day in September of the year 1958 when we entered the doors of A.H.S. with high hopes and great enthusiasm for the future? Mr. WaUer E. Bowman assumed his new duties as our first principal. The first outstanding event of the year was our election of class officers. After tallying the results, we found the positions of authority went to Thomas Clinton, president; Leo Campbell, vice-president; Patricia Field, secretary; and Nancy Judge, treasurer. What a thrill it was on November 28th to attend our first Turkey Day game! A.H.S. broke the six-year Thanksgiving victory record of North by winning 6-0. To top our happy day. Robbie Gilson was elected Sophomore Queen of the Victory Dance. Our winter sports met with mixed success. The swimming team did well in its first year despite their lack of experience. Our basketball team found itself on the road to Tech Tourney. For the first game in Boston Garden, the Bombardiers downed Central, but was later ehminated by Matignon. Under the direction of Mr. Scaturro, the National Honor Society presented a Talent Show in January in order to raise money for an International Day. One of our most memorable events as Sophomores was our first class dance, Petite Fleur, which brought a French touch to the gym. The hard-working com- mittee, headed by Steve Baxendale, Ernie Hill, and advisor Miss Daley, did an excellent job. The annual Science Fair was held April 10, 1959. and we Sophomore walked off with honors. Jim Hanley took first prize, followed by Tom Clinton and Charles Mon- nier. second place : and Lee Smith, third place. In the spring, Barbara Berndt, Patricia Field. Claire Geddes, Carolyn Ireland, and Lorraine Masiello were chosen to represent our class as majorettes. Pat Doyle. Sue Entwistle, Carolyn Faella, Sue Liberty. Marilyn Mercier, Terry Raposa. and Sue Walton were elected to the cheering squad. June came, and our Sophomore year ended as we all looked forward to September and wondered what our Junior year would bring. JUNIOR YEAR As we returned to classes in the fall, we found that it felt strange, but good, to be upperclassmen at last. When election time rolled around, we chose Jim Gravel as president. Bob LaPierre as vice-president, Pat Field as secretary, and Andy Voikos as treasurer. As we became upperclassmen, we participated more actively in varsity sports. Football was booming as a result of Junior additions. Jim Gravel, Eddie Urquhart, Mike Morin, John Davis. Al Frederick. Dave Carlson and Bob Caruso did a great deal toward making this season a successful one. On November 26. we really enjoyed our turkey because we beat North at Commu- nity Field 14-6. During the half-time performance, Big Bands Swing was presented by our band. Our class chose Marilyn Mercier Queen of the Victory Dance. After being thoroughly initiated, ten Junior girls were inducted into Tri-Y, the girls ' service organization of the school. They were: Jeannie Bozzo. Mary Jane DeLutis, Pat Doyle, Sue Entwistle, Pat Field, Robbie Gilson, Nancy Judge, Kathy Kelliher, Marilyn Mercier, and Sue Walton. The two outstanding Juniors upholding the name of A.H.S. in basketball were Jim Gravel and Charlie Grochmal, who were later elected co-captains for the 1960-61 season. At Tech Tourney we beat Boston Latin 65-47, but later were defeated by the strong Somerville team, 78-66. The team of that year will always be remembered as a sportsmanlike and truly outstanding squad, and our class was very proud of the Juniors who participated. Andy Voikos and Charlie Monnier. both consistent scorers for this year ' s highly successful swimming team, were elected co-captains for the 1060-61 squad. Next came our Junior Dance which was called Bali Hai. with the decorations as heavenly as the name. In a tropical paradise with a background of palms, moonlight, and flowers couples danced on a crowded floor around an island. Again our class dance was an outstanding success, thanks to Dolores Bradbury, chairman, and Mrs. Spriggs, our advisor. Ruth Nelson served as our delegate to Girls ' State and Roberta Gilson was the alternate. Tom Clinton, Andy Voikos. and Bob LaPierre went to Boys ' State. Excitement filled the air in May as everyone wondered who would be chosen for National Honor Society, which is based on outstanding scholastic ability and quali- ties of leadership. How proud everyone was of those who were finally tapped! Jeff Carlson, Tom Clinton. Robbie Gilson, Jack Lewis, Bob LaPierre, Bill Morse. Ruth Nelson. Barbara Simoneau, John Tingley. and Andy Voikos were inducted. Once again it was time for the co-editors of the Tattletale to be chosen. Sample yearbooks were passed in for competitive judging and Ruth Nelson and Loraine La- Plume were chosen to have the best dummy. They became our co-editors of the 1961 Tattletale. June drew to a close with our Junior vear behind us. We realized that the next time yearbooks were signed, pictures exchanged, and reception plans made, it would be for us. SENIOR YEAR Full-fledged seniors at last! We returned in September 1960 realizing that this would be our last year. Everyone tried to make it a year we would long remember. Our first order of business was the election of class officers. To make this year the very best yet, we chose Bob LaPierre as our president; Andy Voikos. vice-president: Pat Field, secretary; and Walt Hormanski. treasurer. To direct us in our senior year, we were fortunate to have Mr. Joseph Jovce. Jr. as our new principal. Mr. Joyce came to us from Westford Academy in Lowell, where he spent two years as principal. The first major event of the year was our senior social. Bewitched. Pam Lantz was named a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program. Pam, one of about 10.000 semi-finalists selected throughout the country, was eligible to take another examination and qualify in the finals. We saw ten more girls initiated into Tri-Y. These girls were chosen bv their class- mates for their school contribution and activities. They included: Marilvn Beaupre. 107 Barbara Benidt, Janice Ewen, Carolyn Faella. Claire Geddes, Ruth Nelson, Bev Patenaude. Terry Raposa, Barbara Simoneau, and Thyra Truedson. Tom Clinton pounded the gavel as student council president, in this our final year, with Andy Voikos. vice-president. Mary Jane DeLutis. secretary, and John Davis, treasurer. Attleboro High ' s first soccer team was coached by Joseph J. Aguiar, former all- New England soccer player. With Jack Rego. captain, other members of the team included: Steve Baxendale. J o Campbell. Bob Fontaine, Dave Laird. Bob LaPierre. Bob Mclnerney. Charlie Monnier, John Viera. Les Sheldon, and Charlie Zahigian. There were many new faces among the faculty to greet us as we began our senior year. Coach Tozier left after 24 years as head coach. Mr. James Cassidy, our new head coach from Case High School in Swansea, returned to the school where he •once starred as a halfback. We were very proud of our athletes this year as Jim Butch Gravel captained our football squad which was made up of Dave Carlson, Bob Caruso, John Davis, Al Frederick, Bob Fredette. Charlie Grochmal, Bob Hoyt. Mike Morin. Fred Woll. and Eddie Urquhart. These boys turned in many fine performances on the gridiron and brought many victories. There were several football rallies of which the most outstanding was the Thanks- giving rally in preparation for the annual game between Attleboro and North Attleboro. At the Thanksgiving game, the Balfour Trophy was awarded to the player who was selected as the outstanding performer in the game. Tom Carpenter, a junior, was presented this trophy. Playing at Hayward Field, our team beat North 12-0. Do you remember how happy we were, seeing our team win the Thanksgiving game all three years we were at High School? At the victory dance. Halftime. Robbie Gilson reigned as queen. The 1961 representatives of the cheering squad were Sue Entwistle. head cheer- leader. Pat Doyle. Carolyn Faella, Sue Liberty, Marilyn Mercier. Bev Patenaude, Terry Raposa, and Sue Walton. Strutting down the field were senior majorettes Barbara Berndt. head majorette, Claire Geddes. Pat Field, and Lorry Masiello. Carrying the pride of our class to the armory were Jim Gravel, and Charlie Groch- mal, co-captains. Jim Pinocci and Jim Gill. Again this year, we are slated to play in the Garden with a victorious team. During March, a talent show was presented by the National Honor Society. Barbara Simoneau and Bill Morse have directed the show with the expert assistance of Mr. Anderson, advisor. In recognition of service and character, we chose Robbie Gilson D.A.R. Good Citizen, and Tom Clinton our Good Government Day Representative. As we close our class history to meet our yearbook deadline, we are looking ahead to the remainder of the year and the many events which all seniors experience. Our prom, our senior play. Honor Society Induction, the reception, and, finally gradu- ation day itself will come all too soon. We. the class of 1961. will leave Attleboro High School forever. As we pass through the doorways for the last time, let us look back and remember the principles we learned to guide us in the future. 108 Class Questionnaire and Prophecy NAME Martin Aimanovich John Amaral Marcia Aptt John Arabian Susan Barney Lucille Barrette William Bauser Stephen Baxendale Patricia Beaulieu Marilyn Beaupre Arnold Beauregard Geraldine Beauregard Shirley Belcher Barbara Berndt Marcia Blanchard Richard Boisvert Douglas Bonner James Bonner Richard Bowman Thomas Boyle Genevieve Bozzo Dolores Bradbury Martin Briggs Janet Bromley Sandra Brousseau Howard Brown Janet Bruneau Betty Bubier Carole Burns Leo Campbell Herbert Carlon C.
