V i Nature Man’s roots lie deep in nature and his very life has come out of it. Nature is around us at all times, filling our lives with its wide scope. The quiet moments alone in a woods, seeking answers, or maybe seeking questions; the snap of the autumn wind in the quiet beauty of a fresh snowfall. People lately have paid more notice to the nature around us, perhaps because it’s now being threatened; we never seem to care about anything until we’re on the verge of losing it. Nature means so much to us. We must recognize its importance in our lives. With us they share their heritage Nature's vast domain. But we, not they, must keep from harm, The earth, the air, the rain. Unknown Forword The purpose of every yearbook is memories - keeping them alive. Spending hour after hour in class; attending the never-too-often assemblies; sitting in the bleachers and yelling, win or lose; talking, really talking, to a teacher; and making your locker a place of your own. We, who have worked on the yearbook, hope that the 1975 TORCH will strengthen these memories. J. W. Gardner Dedicated, committed, and understanding are words that describe these two people . Due to the varied interests of our class, these two teachers have had the most impact on our class. The Class of 1975 proudly dedicates the year's TORCH to Mr. James Allegretto and Mrs. Janis Hempel. Many of us first came to know Mr. Allegretto when he was our health teacher. This man is very actively involved in school sports as a coach for the football and wrestling teams. He is eager, enthusiastic, and works toward perfection in all attempts. He has contributed a great deal to our athletic program, both in physical education classes and extra-curricular activities. Mrs. Janis Hempel has given a great deal of herself during the five years she has been at our school. She is creative, hard working, quick-witted, understanding, and socially aware. She has given a great deal of her time and energy in establishing our mini-courses and is an integral part of the English department. A Man's Reach Should Exceed His Grasp. R. Scot Wright Susan Our friend and classmate, Susan C. Feger, died of leukemia on July 29, 1970. Susan was quiet, and maybe not very well-known by many in school, but she was always ready to smile and be friendly to everyone. Susan loved animals; she had several pets and she also enjoyed watching the rabbits, chipmunks, and birds in the fields and woods near her home. The money collected from friends, classmates, and teachers for a memorial to Susan's memory, purchased an original and appropriate oil painting by Mrs. Ruth M. Werner, a local artist. The painting is displayed in the library of the Junior High School. Those of us who knew Susan will never forget her. She was with us for such a small space in time, but she filled it well. One thing about living in a foreign country for a longer time is that you are very grateful if there are people who help you to adjust. There are quite a few sweet kids in A.C.S. who are willing to talk to me and walk up to me with a Hi.” Such little things make me feel accepted. If you know that you are loved by your family and other people around you and you experience the different ways of life in the country, you hardly will agree with a fight against the country when you are back in your homeland because you understand the way of living in the other coun-try. 1 think if many people would know about other countries and their people, they would try to avoid wars at any cost. This is one basic idea of A.F.S. All the people who help A.F.S. in any way, contribute a little stone to the building of peace. Herta Buchner A.F.S. The Class of 1975 wishes to pay honor to two very special people: Mrs. Catherine Reding and Mrs. Barbara Purcell. Mrs. Purcell is understanding, generous, and considerate. She has inspired many students to aspire to higher goals and realize their hidden potentials. These features are very rare and can make the difference between a good teacher and an exceptional one. Mrs. Reding always made English class interesting, as well as informative, through her warm sense of humor. Through her gentle manner, she received respect. She was involved in the A.F.S. Club from its origin and made our club what it is today. She was always concerned about her students and considerate of their feelings. Special Tribute 149 Our hearts will cherish the friends we've made and the many times we've shared. Now, at the close, we realize that only we can look back on those times and say. . . For All That Has Been — Thanks! For All That Will Be — Yes! 150 Special Thanks The 1975 TORCH staff would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have helped make this yearbook a success.
