The Juniors started the 1954-55 year with seventy-two members in the class. In September the class elected the follow- ing officers to serve us this year: President, Bob Shepherd, Vice-President, Don Gooden, Secretary, Max Schwartzg Treasurer, Kay Welsh, Representatives on the Student Council are Ed Nelson and Ted Franklin. Mr. Daugherty and Mrs. Lear are our sponsors. The pink carnation was 'chosen as our class flower and Forward Ever, Backward Never as our class motto. One of the highlights of the year was our presentation of the junior play entitled Hill- billy Weddin under the direction of Mr. Daugherty and Mrs. Lear. To provide enough money for the spring social activities and to make a start for next year we made an all-out effort in the annual magazine sale. The class was divided into two teams. Our class rings were ordered the first of November and we received them in Decem- ber. Two class parties were enjoyed during the year. Plans are being made for the Prom to be held in the spring. The Junior Class wishes to thank Mr. Daugherty and Mrs. Lear who have helped make our Junior year a most successful one. IN MEMORY OF PHIL MITCHELL Between classes this morning on the third floor of the 'high school building, things seemed unusually quiet. Instead of the usual banter and laughter, there was subdued talk and seriousness. Around locker 275, a familiar face was missing, in the classrooms and study hall a seat oc- cupied by a tall, red-haired boy was vacant. One first thought Mitchell is absent today . Then you remembered, Phil will not be here, nor anywhere, again. Per- haps for the first time in your life you realize how final is death. Phil was quiet, said one of his class mates. You hardly knew he was around. But in class today something was definite- ly missing. Phil's absence left a big void that will never again be filled. Mitch was as good a pal as I ever had, said another. He always spoke easy. His quiet and gentle manner gained him 3 friendship that was felt by all.
