DeSutter, President The Seniors of 1953 enjoyed a successful year. We began the year by electing the above class officers. Our flower was the traditional QAmerican Beautyv rose, and our colors were red and white. On November 4, we all enjoyed a class party. Each person brought food, and a dinner was enjoyed in the cafeteria. Dancing followed in the Recreation Hall to the music of the Keynoters.v Another party was planned for March 31. On March 28 and 29 the Seniors presented their plav which was entitled MA. H. Stars of 19537 This featured S one-act plays with short skits in between acts. The play was under the direction of Mrs. Carol Myer. The Seniors are proud of the members from their class who participated in the various extra-curricular activities during the year and who did such an excellent job. VVe would like to thank Mr. Daughtery and Mr. Harbison, our sponsors, and all the other members of the faculty who helped us so much reach the goals that we had set for the year. One of the highlights of the year was the presentation of the Junior Play entitled, aBoarding Schoolf, under the direction of Mrs. Carol Myer. In order to provide funds for the spring social activities, an all-out effort was made in the annual magazine sales cam- paign. The two selling teams, led by Cynthia Knowles and Jerry Shoaf, battled it out for 3 weeks with Cynthia's team emerging triumphantly. Lary WVilsor1 was general manager of the campaign. Class rings were selected in November and delivery was made in January. Two class parties were enjoyed during the year. After a 'gpitch-inn dinner, the evening was spent dancing and taking part in various other recreational activities. The one event to which the Juniors look forward with great anxiety is the Prom. This, year, it will be held on May 8 at the Country Club. Already, plans are being laid to make this one of the outstanding proms at Attica High School. P 1 T enty 43:9 IQ q l L ' First Row: A. However, in future years, their faces will become more familiar as they take their places on the basket- ball teams, football teams, in band and choral groups-yes, even as they publish the 1965 Crimson at Attica High School. In addition to publishing the yearbook, the Crimson Staff sponsors the Annual Crimson Hop--a gala evening of dancing, highlighted by the crowning of the King, and Queenv. Selected by popular vote, the honors this year went to Sophomores Dick Kochell and Carolyn VVeigle. To give all students an opportunity to contribute to the preparation of the yearbook, a snapshot contest was conducted this year. Seven of the band members are Seniors, and they received their band sweater at a convocation held in the spring. Also during the year, a band named the Keyn0ters was started. Its members consisted of the more talented band members, and they have proved to be very successful. Page Fifty-five PATROL Seated: Mr. Norman, J, Miokle, D. Caylor, B. Ragor. Second Row: D. This is their story as they would tell it. Their names were Mutt DeSutter and Ieff Helms. Being of the venturous type, they set out for an excursion to deepest, darkest, and dirtiest Africa. The other day I was driving down the road in my new 84 Ietmobile when I saw two antiquated characters, with double barreled elephant guns and leopard hats, crawling on their hands and knees tracking down a squirrel. They looked familiar to me so I backed up to see who it was. It was Mutt and Jeff. They said they had come back to Indiana and had looked up their old classmates. They said they had stopped in Indianapolis to take in a ballgame between the Indianapolis Tobes and the Clobe-Callopers. The Tobes featured 7-foot Jack Wright who had grown a little since they had last seen him. Also at the game following up a clue on the basketball scandal was Detective Charles Tanner. The Clobe-Callopers had a man who lookcd much like Lum Caylor. After the game they found it was Lum, painted black. Back in Attica they ran on to Charles Bossaer who now owned all the farm land surrounding Attica. Charles seemed satisfied with his meager 32,000,000 a year income. They also saw his wife, Patsy Biggs, who was helping build fences on one of Charles, farms. On arriving in Attica, they found Gerry Mattern, better known as Mr. F ixit, installing plumbing works in a modern dream house for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shepherd fthe former Priscilla Creenl, the efficient managers of the Attica Stockyards. They were almost run down by a Hayes Freight Line truck now owned by Carl Iohnson, Esquire. They went to complain about the careless driving and found it to be that their old classmate, Fred Coffing, was Chief of Police. He referred to the 75th volume of Law Incorporatedv, written by Admiral William Richard Parient. He asked them if they were going to take in the wrestling matches. They were featuring Iames C Roughiel Gooden and Mr. Satan, better known as Dave Henry. On the way to the match that night, they saw a campaign poster for Honest Paul Lefton who was running for the U. S. Senate. At the match they saw Iames Mitchell, Attica,s leading veterinarian, looking out for Mr. Satanis mascot, Rin-Tin-Can, owned and raised by Muse and Locke who are famous for raising twin dogs. After the match they were hailed by an old friend, Ed Sichts, who took them for a ride in his old ':38', DeSoto with the dynamo jet engine which he had just invented. Running low on gas, they were stopped at Blankenship's B. O. Station which had replaced Dotsonis D. X. After obtaining some ffzoplzecy: Claw of '53 jet fuel they picked up Ed,s wife, the former Patricia Dubes and the four of them attended the Scab and Scum Theater, under the manage- ment of Bub Scott and WVallace Jennings. In that nightis show was Torchy LaHa1npton, better known as Bella, who had replaced Marilyn Monroe. Also in the show was the new idol of the Bobby soxers, Billy Cuddlesv Sisk. It was quite a love picture. They then went to the Sleepless Night Motel which was run by Carolyn Hartman and Mary Jo Young. In their room was a copy of How to Reducev by Paul Slim,' Harris. The next day they caught a cab which was run by Connie Brier and Mona Richey, who Worked on an alternating day and night shift. They took them to Ace Ware,s Poolroom where they bought a paper from Ray Reynolds who ran Jack,s poolroom on his day off. They saw in the Daily Blow, now edited by Mary Jane McDermond, an ad by the Baldwin and VVall,s Lonely Hearts Club. That night they attended Sully,s Jive Joint, the city,s most prom- inent night club, run by Paul Sullivan. The check girl was our old classmate, Betty Perigo. As they were ushered to their table by Sue Lippold, head waitress, she pointed out that the pictures on the wall were painted by the Lamb and McBride Art Company. Featured on the program was Ella the Colden Cirlv Dillman, who was accom- panied by Janice Pateriski Carr. As they were observing the floor show featuring the uadorablesu, Ruth Schneider, Helen Pearl, Beverly Nehemiah, and Janice Lilly, they noticed that these girls were doing the trash-can dance-an offspring of the can-can. They were asked to look at the spacious kitchens which were under the supervision of the famous chefs, JoAnn Landis and Madge 'cBeulah,' Hammons. They noticed that the menus were printed by Massing, Morgan, and Sons. After the meal they took deathly sick and were revived by the house nurse, Pat Blood Plasmav Slauter. Upon leaving, they paid their checks to Darlene Money Bagsv Booe. As the squirrel hurried across the path, Mutt and Jeff scurried off-guns blazing-and they have never been heard from since. Yours truly, Homer Sylvester Luigi Pobojeioskianiavitoriusky WITNESSED: November 30, 1973 LES FORD MERRY PAUL Page Sevcv crkknowfedgemen la To the many people who contributed toward the publication of this, the 1953 Crimson, the Staff wishes to express its appreciation.
