lass H1stor In the year 1941 42 bustltng botsterous boys and gtrls approached a btg burldtng They were told that they were gotng to spend the next 12 years there In the stx years followtng we gatned classmates and due to ctrcumstances beyond our control we lost some Our teachers for the lower grades were Mtss Whrtman Mrs Mtles Mrs Armttage Mtss Holm Mrs Wernle and Mrs Peck respectrvely Then came a new and thrtlltng expertence for us we graduated tnto Junior Htgh School We dts covered that we dtdn t have one teacher but many of them' Boy were we tn a dtther our homeroom teacher for that year was Mr John Bara the coach That year we elected offtcers We chose Betty Retchert to take the controls her asststants were Eddte Baker Janet Gurney and Sara Burger The next year we advanced to the 8th grade Our homeroom teachers were Mrs Donna Mtller and Mrs Nancy Carrtck We were more famtltar wtth the procedure now The leader that year was Ralph Kreffer wtth Eddte Baker as vtce prestdent Betty Gurney as secretary and Eugene Nagel as treasurer Then came the btg day we graduated to the freshman class' Man we were the wheels now! Our homeroom teachers for that year were Mrss Loretta and Legretta Metzger twrnsl We chose Gene Nagel to be our Navrgator that year wtth Don Krng as V P Betty Retchert as secretary and JanetGurney as treasurer We gatned two grrls tn thrs year They were Conme Swartzmtller and Barbara Babs Prtdgen Babs wasa ltttle ole Southern gal and Conme was from Thompson We also gatned several boys and gtrls from Reed They were Leona l-lahl Gene Brown Leo Wets and Raymond Schrtner Later on rn that year we were Jotned by a 280 pound grant you all know who tt was It was none other than Don Dantels Even the Upper classmen kept thetr drstance One of our boys made the Varsrty Basketball Team It was Gene Nagel he set a record for he made the team all four years' The next year we advanced into the Sophomore year We thought we knew tt all then but we were rnformed that the word Sophomore means wtse fool Our captatn that year was agatn Gene Nagel wtth Carlton Huffman Betty Rerchert and Betty Gurney asststtng htm Our class was becomtng very sports wtse now and we produced several more lettermen That year the Juntors selected flve boys and ftve Ralph Kteffer Marvtn Wurm Jane l-letbertshausen Vtrgtnta, Nagel Leona Hahl Betty Rerchert Janet Gurney wtth Betty Gurney ptanlst Our homeroom teachers for that year were Cloyce Ftltere and Donna Jean Warns The next year we were lucky enough to get our same homeroom teachers back We were bound and determtned that we were gotug to have our same presrdent back and we dtd Gene Nagel was agatn selected Navrgator wtth Ralph Kteffer Betty Rerchert and Janet Gurney assrsttng htm We looked forward to the Juntor Sentor Prom and frnally rt came We gave those Sentors the best ttme they ever had those lucky lucky people Betty Gurney represented Atttca at Gtrls State whtle Gene Nagel went to Boys State We suddenly realrzed that we were reachtng the end of the road We were very sorry tn a happy way The next year we were Senrorsl ' the Class of 55 Mr Glen Dennrs and Mr Robert Schnetder were our Seutor advrsors That year we chose for our leader Gene Nagel he set another record he was presrdent of our Class for four years' Chosen to asstst htm were Marvrn Wurm and Betty Gurney Betty Retchert Betty set a record too Shewas our secretary for fouryears Ah yes as we look back now there were happy and sad moments together We had three Supertntendents over us whtle we were rn school each for a perrod of four years They were Mr Kaufman Mr Ashbaugh and Mr Dennrs N other class has had the opportuntty to have three leaders for a perrod of four years each But now we are frntshed looktng back and we the class of 55 must look ahead and advance to future goals As we leave thrs place we remember our motto Unless God be wrth you all your to1l IS rn varn We take heed of that motto as wc go out rnto the world and we know that rt IS true As we advance tnto the world we ll remember the poem Here s to the Class of 55 Who through all thetr struggles drd survtve And as we advance we ll encounter more And we ll overcome them as we dtd before And now as we part we ll say farewell To our classmates that we love so well But we ll remember as long as we re altve That we re loyal to the Class of 55 16 O 7 ' I l ' ' 1 . 7 ' I ' - I 0 ' I D - ' 1 . . . , . . . .
