The need of our complex corporate society is for such edu- cated men with an understanding of more than a specialized held. This type of understanding is not acquired in a laboratory, nor can it be traced upon a drawing boardg it can come only from living and learning. Q Above and beyond the need to know how to do is the need to know how to live. Many well-trained men never develop this kind of knowledge but are content to remain in the narrow grooves of their specialization. Yet society cannot progress as a whole unless it has leadership that can make wise decisions involving considerations in a multitude of fields. Ruth E. Felton, A.B. There is an understandable concern about developing Secretary to the President scientists' and engineers to ensure the future leadership of the democracies. But no number of such specialists, however im- portant they may be, can guarantee the survival of our demo- cratic way of life.
