ef' , S l .kg fi 'X resident Leadership in this hazardous atomic age demands a fine balance between firmness and pliability, 1 stubbornness and compromise. A great life, today as i never before, requires a careful avoidance of that I rigidity of viewpoint that stamps the doctrinaire or the mule. Our minds must remain receptive and plastic but not be allowed to degenerate into pliability. To the life of the Christian will come many battles which cannot be sidestepped nor compromised. Never to iight, always to negotiate, may leave the intellect unim paired, but the moral fiber is sure to degenerate. Pliability must be a matter of judgment and not a habit. Firmness and pliability are to be , found dwelling together in the well-rounded in all successful democratic leaders of today. There is always room for the man of force, but do not mistake stubborn- ness for force.
