During the past three years about 1B200,000 has been expended. Additional campus space has been purchased, a new dormitory for ladies has been erected, a music hall has been provided, and many other improve- ments have been made. During this current year construction will be started on two new buildings. A new, modern woodwork shop will be our next addition, followed by a commodious building that will serve as an auditorium and gymnasium. The expansion plan for Atlantic Union College covers a period of several years, during each of which substantial ad- ditions and improvements will be seen. In addition to a growing and expanding plant, we have assembled at Atlantic Union College a competent and well- trained faculty. This college is prepared to give our youth the very best Christian education obtainable. Chairman of the Board, M. L. Rice. im 522. 'TNS . The country is aware of its great need. Preparedness seems to be the magic key to peace, success and everything the world holds dear. What is the significance of the word to you, young man, young woman? Are you arming yourself with the two edged sword of the Spiritf' that you may fight bravely the battle of the Lord? The challenge to us today is to put on the whole armor of God. Nothing short of all out aid to dying humanity and total war against sin will guarantee victory for ourselves. The battle will be won, and our great purpose is to be found on the victor's side. Never was it more certain than now that the world's greatest need is the need for true men and women, loyal young people, strong physically, mentally and spiritually, unyielding in their allegiance to the plan of God. This army of youth must be rightly trained - and this work must be done quickly. For this purpose our schools exist today. Atlantic Union College pledges to follow this program. The hour is late, and an intensive work must be done. We cordially invite the youth of the Atlantic Union to prepare now for the days ahead. Associate yourselves with those already in training, and enter College this Fall determined on an all out program for God. The Faculty is justly proud of the Class of '41 and of that great and illustrious army of men and women who have gone out from the halls of this school during the past Fifty-nine years. We pray that God may greatly bless you who leave us now for broader fields of service, and may He open the way for many consecrated young people to take your places here this coming year. Your success will be our greatest satisfaction. Cordially, G. Eric Iones LEVVIS H. IIAn'r1x. Whence these supercilious folk, With their glasszs on their noses. With their notes of countless ages. With their rushing, with their speeches, With their frequent repetitions, And their wild reverberations, As of thunder in the mountains? I should answer, I should tell you, Of the tale of Brainy Seniors, Tell their wondrous birth and being. How they played and how they feasted, How they lived and toiled and suffered That the Senior Class might prosper. That they might advance their college! Onward through the morning sunlight ln the days that are forgotten. In the unremembered ages. From a land of recollections, Came they - pretty little FRESI-IMEN, As fine students to the college. There the stupid little Freshmen. Looked at every book -- its content, Learned its name and all its secrets. Where they're found and how they're hidden. Never with their education, Did their pleasures interfere. Then into the classrooms straightway. All alone walked they as SOPHOMORES. Said the socials and the parties. 'Do not study yet you Sophomores.' Said the programs and the playgrounds. 'Do not study - there is time yet.' But they heeded not. nor heard them, For their thoughts were with their lessons, On their words their eyes were fastened, To the tests that made their credits, And as ones in slumber planned they. Many things the teachers taught them, Of the stars that shine in heaven: Showed them strange phenomena, Molecules with fiery 'lectrons. Showed the Death-dance of false theories. Warriors with their pens and papers Were they - JUNIORS now - :nd SIU In the frosty nights of winter: Trod the hard and narrow pathway. Pathway of the ghosts, the shadows Of intentions and ambitions. Now at last. they're sober SENIORS. Planning hard and pond'ring often, Much perplexed by various feelings, Listless. longing, hoping. fearing. Dreaming of some job that calls them, Of some place they hope to till. And the ancient ALMA MATER Turns a moment from its labor. Watching from its open doorway, Murmuring to itself and saying. Thus it is our Seniors leave us, Those we love, and those who love us. Just when they have learned to help us. When we trust and lean upon them, Comes the Board with flaunting feathers, With its trumpet loud a-blowing, Ever searching through the campus, Beckoning the fairest Seniors, And they follow where it leads them Leaving all, for greater glory. by Alice O M o1'To An Unreserved Consecration COLORS Sapphire Blue and Aviation Blue FLOWER White Rose Anvtsian H.
