26 FHA Sparks Interest In The Home Economics Field The main objective of FHA w1as to develop interest in Home Economics, Home Economic Careers and rela-ted occupations. Guest speakers em- ployed in the Home Economics field spoke to mem- bers at several meetings. The club attended a district meeting in October and went on a field trip in the spring. FHA's service project this year was a grand- parent program. Each member adopted a grand- parent from the Heritage House and visited him twice monthly. In the past few years membership has slowly declined. The members and advisor have worked hard to encourage persons to join. The efforts were successful as there was an increase in membership this year. 1. Waiting for the meeting to begin gives Dana Bruce and Debbie DuVall a chance to 1. . talk. 2. Health Careers Are Medics of The Future This years' Health Careers Club started the year off with a tour of the hospital. Since most of the girls were interested in the x-ray technician field, a great deal of time was spent in that area. Visiting the Atlantic Care Center, and having a chance to talk with the elderly, made up another enjoyable tour for the girls. A speaker from the Chemical De- pendency Agency and the schools psychiatrist spoke to the group. The club also had a Christmas party. i In the spring the group took a field trip, had A ' A ,, ,.,: ' i'ii if t 3 1 installation of the new officers, and they ended W W 'kit' I.-if C liff ...,., ', ,., , ., Q :lf 1 at ,,-::. , l .v:',', lg' ' . FFA Develops leadership Abilities The main emphasis of FFA was to develop the members' leadership abilities. Activities such as State Convention in May, the National Convention in November, the Soil Judging and the Speaking Contests involved many members throughout the year. Atlantic teams placed 2nd and 3rd in the Dis- trict Soil judging Contest. The membership grew steadily, as eighteen new greenhands were installed, including two girls. The Future Farmers favorite activities were Harvest Ball and the citrus fruit sale. Harvest Ball was once again a great success. This year's fruit sales hit a peak as a money making project. The year's highlight was FFA week in Febru- ary. During the Week the members planned an ap- preciation breakfast to honor people who had con- tributed to the Atlantic chapter. This year's activities drew to a close in April when the annual banquet was held. Special guests included parents and prospective greenhands. The program was provided by the Parlimentary Proced- ure Team and individual speakers. Awards were presented to the outstanding members.
