Student Council: Guardian Of Student Rights This year the Student Council accomplished several major projects. After years of work by the council, the school board finally approved the con- struction of a school sign. The sign will be in the shape of a trojan head to be located on Linn Street. Five members of the student council went on an exchange day, where they visited Red Oak and 'Shenandoah high schools. The Student Council also provided a stereo for the lunch room. - The council also sponsored a mini-course day, which was approved by the administration. Students took part in ping-pong, ballroom dancing, archery, tennis, Crocheting, bicycling and various other in- teresting and practical courses. The Students Rights Committee, along with the Iowa Civil Liberties Union, opposed the Board of Education concerning the board policy on smoking and drinking. On May 11, 1976, the board changed its policy to a more acceptable policy, to both the committee and the I.C.L.U. Overall most student council members were pleased with their accomp- lishments and hoped that this year was the begin- ning of a trend.
