MR. LOWELL CLAUSON For many years Mr. Clauson has given A.H.S. a quality teaching service. Not only has this service been quality in knowledge but a personality that is appreciated by all who know him. Looking back over several years a statement in reference to Mr. Clauson illustrates his influence toward his classes. As a teacher he's tops. We even enjoy his tests. Thus we, the staff of '55 do proudly dedicate The Javelin to Mr. Lowell Clauson. 4 ADMINISTRATION So on and so forth---do you follow me---now folks, 1et's have it quiet---spit out your gum---you could at least look interested---1et's study the next chapter for to- morrow---you can come in and make up time for that---where's your admit s1ip?--- Go to the office---fine, d1at's fine---can't you ever remember your paper and pencil? 5 SUPERINTENDENWS MESSAGE MR. A. H. SCHULER We congratulate you, the Graduates of 1955! It is our hope that your high school days have been enriched with worth-while experiences. It is also our desire that these experiences will make possible your achieving the nine requisites for a full and contented life. They are expressed in the words of Goethe as health enough to make work a pleasure: wealth enough to support your needsg strength enough to battle with difficulties and overcome them: patience enough to see some good in your neighbors: love enough to move you to be useful and he1pf111 to othersg faith enough to make real the things of Godg hope enough to re- move all anxious fears concerning the future . 6 .N Xf,-,, W ,.,' N 1, S Ir fr dia PRI NCI PAL' S MESSAGE In the future as you look through this book, you will surely be reminded of friends and pleasant events. May it also remind you of the ideals that your school teaches. If you are so reminded, you will grow in success, in happiness, and in stature as an influence for good in your community. DAVE C. Even though we are glad to have made the grade and are hopefully looking to- ward the future, there are times when we look back to our school days rather wistfully. We will scatter to all parts of the world, and many of us will never meet again. Our hope is that in the days to come, the pages of our Javelin will serve as a pleasant re- minder of the happy days and pleasant people we knew in Atlantic High School. Between speech contests, the students are called upon by the citizens of the community to present their selections. This is not only a service for the community, but it is also a good experience for the students. This year the speech students participated at the Preliminary Contest at Cumberland, the Pre-District Contest at Atlantic, the District at Clarinda, and the State Contest at Ottumwa. Excellent ratings were awarded to students participating in Interpretive reading, Extemporaneous speaking, and the One Act play at state contest. 51 SENIOR CLASS PLAY Judge ....... . . . ....
