SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Well, kids, just look at us now! Here we are, getting ready for graduation. Graduation from twelve of the most wonderful years of our lives. lf we could only relive them all for a few min- utes. At least it's worth a try. Let's do! First came kindergarten. The only grade in which you were requested to take naps. Could you ever imagine that Freddie Brown just wouldn't sleep and kept snapping Donna Shrauger with a rubber band? And Pete Hopley was just beginning to work for his present reputation. The most thrilling part of grade school was when all the little boys became resentful of the little girl's wearing blue-jeans and came to school one bright Monday morning clad in their crisp little dresses. Who could forget how stunning Eddy Estensen looked? Every class has to have a ro- mance. Ours was that of Pat Thompson and Rod Schupp. Seems theyive changed now, though. Remember how tiny Pat Shea was? Another memorable event was when Janice Smith and Bill Baxter would climb in an old cherry tree and little Bill would be afraid to come down. Look at Bill now, flying an airplane. About this time, Mary Dee Rains joined us. Then, she had her dad bring the car to take her home. Bev Trent has beautiful hair now, but you should have seen her long curls. Anyway, we got to Junior High, to the big school on the hill. Then came the little old parties, on Friday nights, of course. No one can throw an egg salad sandwich like Jim Weitzel and duck it like Dale Rowley. And how about the two clubs the girls used to have, each trying to steal the other's members. Marianne Gunderman, Mary Moore, Carol Destler, and Judy Jones really put up a struggle. It was about now that Bonnie Beekman, Joan Barringer, and JoEllen Arn had to give up baseball and settle down to skirts. Then came High School. We were freshmen! This meant migration from the farm, and Fletcher Chapel. This brought forth some of our best pals, Audrey Nelson, Marilyn Meyers, Rowena Shorty Steffens, Donnis Helbourg, Betty Ann Rock, and Orlin and Bob Sothman, cousins. Carolyn Rothe prefers to say that she came from Lyman, Iowa that is. Who could overlook the time Marilu Brown first saw the boy in the green reindeer sweater? His name? Ken Warne. Bernie Waters came in from a different section of the country, but sheis a city girl now. Curt Masteller was the only one who had enough nerve to talk to the teachers, and Arnold Stone finally admitted he came from Lincoln, Janice F ulks was crown bearer at Homecoming in a pretty red dress. . The sophomore year? It meant another year clipped off of these four beautiful years. An- other successful year in football and Jim Dahlberg, and basketball. We put Darrel Henningsen as our president. Too, we found that Peggy Doolittle, Jody Highley and JoAnn Williams were three to be watched, eh boys? And, we can't forget that LeAnn Coats and Alice Hansen really learned how to dance and had a wonderful time of it. Gene Glynn, Everett Breach, and Dick Smith were starting to drive cars, to school! Our junior year! Ah, yes! Then some of the boys got a chance to study what they'd known all their lives, farming! Who? Leon Nelson, Lamar Esbeck and Silver Opbroak, Don Alff, Morris Blake, and Ralph Chamberlin. lt seems that somewhere, about now, Joanne Rattenbourg, Janice Darrow, Romona Cordes fher twin brother is Richardj, Marjorie Johnson, Wanda Blohn, Doris Peterson, and Shirley Hansen came to find that there were boys other than those in class. Not to mention Jo Hoffman and Betty Muzzy. We found that the geniuses among us were Dale Steifens and Phil Chinitz, just to mention a few, and Chuck Goff started studying forestry, while Jim and Bob Schwartz started studying! fgirls?J Some of our newcomers along the way, were Anna Mae Christensen, Frances Karstensen, Betty Logue, Don Jensen, Francine Clay, Pat Wilken, and Gilbert Pederson. Gayle Marquette and Jim Jorden found their places on the stage. Which reminds us, that George McNary made a swell crew man. How could we forget Professor Burnham. Flash! Vernie Philips found something besides football! Dick Bailey was to become editor of the Javelin with Betty Aldrich as assistant. Here, kids, came ourxsenior year. The big year, when we were supposed to feel so much older and mature, but when most of' us felt small and a little resentful of the fact that we were soon to be out of high school-but happy that we could start new jobs, new experiences. We felt, this way up until the night of commencement, anyway. Then? Then I think we thought over how we had spent the past years of our lives, of the beautiful, beautiful times we'd had. So again I say, here's to four wonderful years and to the best class ever!!
