Mr. Jim Hunter Mr. Bob Porks Mr. Hunter (left) and Mr. Parks on ground-breaking Honorable Governor Mills Godwin breaks ground for the gym day. on October 30, 1968. The new Atlantic High School gymnasium is the final realization of a dream-a dream that students and patrons of Atlantic District have carried in their hearts for many years. We owe this dream to many people, - parents, personnel at Atlantic High School and on the school board level, - but without the untiring efforts of Mr. Jim Hunter of Atlantic and Mr. Bob Parks of New Church, the dream might not have materialized. These two men gave un¬ selfishly and generously of their time, energy, and sometimes even funds, to get the final word “Go!” for the gym. They have worked feverishly to keep the patrons of Atlantic District informed, interested, and encouraged in this project that will mean so very much to our school and community. The Atlantic High School Cardinal Staff takes this opportunity to thank everyone who worked toward getting this gym, but we especially thank Mr. Parks and Mr. Hunter to whom we proudly and gratefully dedicate the 1969 edition of the Cardinal. 1969 CARDINAL STAFF ATHLETICS 1968 Varsity Football COACH - Clarence Johnson ASSISTANT COACH - Mickey Ashby 8 1968 Senior Varsity Players BRUCE TAYLOR DAVID NICKERSON RODNEY MILES 9 10 11 THANKSGIVING DAY 1968 KING: Mike Thomas QUEEN: Vickie Holland Football Atlantic 40 Parksley 0 Atlantic 20 Chincoteague 6 Atlantic 38 Broadwater 0 Atlantic 7 Onancock 19 Atlantic 0 Central 31 Scoreboard Atlantic 38 Cape Charles 0 Atlantic 0 Onancock 0 Atlantic 6 Central 20 Atlantic 25 Parksley 6 Atlantic 12 Chincoteague 1 AHS Students They’re Everywhere! I ,! 27 1969 Cardinal Staff THE CARDINAL, the Atlantic High School Annual, now in its nineteenth year of publication, is one of the outstanding activities of the year. While it has been the privilege of the staff to compile this book, it could not have done so alone, for without the inspiring faith of the faculty and friends, THE CARDINAL would have been just a dream. Here is your CARDINAL. Take it. Cherish it. If it brings you memories of Atlantic High School, those who have written it will feel their efforts worthwhile.
