Each year students leave its hallowed portals to venture out into the busy, surrounding district to take their place in society. Atlantic High School educates each individual to become a successful citizen in life. This volume of the Cardinal depicts not only the wholesome atmosphere of Atlantic High School but Atlantic District as well. We, the Atlantic Cardinal Staff, present this annual to you with the hope that you may value its meaning as we do. 2 DEDICA TION Some people think of and wish the best things for others; some put their thoughts and best wishes into practice. To those in the latter category our book is dedicated. By continuously helping others they have extended this practice of thoughtfullness and consideration into Atlantic High School. By giving of their time and energy to our various school activities, they have become very close and well-loved friends. Because of their wonderful personalities and their ever helping hand, we the Cardinal Staff, with love and appreciation, dedicate this 1964 annual to . . . BILL and HELEN JOHNSTON. 3 A Tribute to Jacklyn By Wayne Taylor With us she walked; With us she played; To us she talked; For us she prayed. The powers of love, honor, and grace Were always shown in her smiling face. The day came when she had to depart, And with her she took a part of each heart. Forever will be remembered her spirit and cheer, Her memory will live on earth with us here. Jacklyn Hope Russell Class of 1965 Mrs. Ethel Taylor Johnson Mrs. Ethel Taylor Johnson was associated with Atlantic High School for seventeen years as one of the lunchroom workers. She was a true and loyal friend and co-worker with the Atlantic Faculty and Student Body during those many years. The news of her death on September 28, 1963 deeply grie.ved all who knew and loved her. 4 ' ' Don your hat and let ' s be going, I’or the daffodils are showing In the gardens and the lawn at Corbin Hall. Impressive Record Maintained by Varsity Squad Although the ' 63 football team was young, Atlantic High School ' s varsity upheld the tradition of cooperation, clean sportsmanship and team spirit. Through hard work and fine coaching the team obtained an enviable and quite impressive record of six victories and three defeats. For the past four years no Atlantic team has had less than a successful season. With excellent instruction from its coaches, Harry C. Betts and Bob Miller, the team finished the season with no serious injuries. With this same fine coaching ex¬ pected in the coming ' 64 season and few major losses on the squad, the team is setting its sights on a championship next year. 52 The high-stepping, peppy cheerleaders of Atlantic High added color and spirit to its football games. Among their many and varried activities were enthusiastic pep rallies, inspiring devotionals, hall posters, school and auditorium decorations, and the Thanksgiving Day Float. : ’ « ' Co-Captains ... .
